Hi lybrate user, vitamin d helps in calcium absorption hence they both are interconnected. Vit d is best absorbed from sunlight. Our body needs 30 mins of sunlight daily to synthesise vit d. In addition other sources for calcium & vit d. Are fish, milk, cheese, curd, eggs, spinach, soya beans, cod liver oil capsules. Depending on your test reports, the doc may recommend additional vit d / calcium supplements.

Mr. lybrate-user, From what you have written, there is no clue about what is the current blood glucose level. Please give following details to give any guidance or advice: fasting, PP blood glucose levels, HbA1c%, dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise being done. Please understand one thing clearly, diabetes is a disease which can only be controlled by appropriate drugs, diet control and exercise. There is no CURE. You will have to live with it. If you do not treat it properly then serious long term complications will affect every single vital organ in your body. Only treatment available is with modern medicines. Thanks.

My mother in law 56 years, 76 kg weight, height 5 ft3 inch, known diabetic for 10 years, hypothyroidism taking thyroxine 100 mg daily ,taking insulin, undergone angiography and single artery standing 1 year back, taking all required medication and regular follow up, takes an anti anxiety medication called depolv 37 (mixture of imiprime plus 2 more drugs].recently did a nuclear myocardial perfusion study, which came out normal. Yet she constantly complaint of pain in upper left chest area and breathless on getting up stairs and on getting up from toilet. No physical activity as she feels exhausted after few rounds of slow walk. Feels drowsy all dsy and remain lie down on bed day long and gets less sleep in night. Consulted all the relevant doctors, who gave same impression of all normal state and advised her proper diet and physical work out. She has weak mental strength so gets panicked easily. So I request for suggestions to get her back to normal state. Please help ‌I'm a dental surgeon by profession, so if the below interpretation help you, please go thru. She is already on ecosprin, atorvastatin, metoprolol, nitrocontin,ranulaz500, thyroxine100 mg,Metformin 500 mg twice daily, brilinta90 mg,insulin (mixed 30 twice daily 20 units morning and 12 units night. Antienxiety drug depolv 37 bed time. Her recent lipid profile is normal, so as the renal, liver profiles only the tsh was 21, so increased the does from thyroxine25 mg to 100 mg. As per her treating cardiologist all vitals regarding heart is fine. He gave a impression of psychosomatic pain. As per his suggestion myocardial perfusion test under stress was done which also came normal. Her Hb1AC was 7 and ppbs was 170 mg/dl. Creatinine is within normal range, so as the calcium, CBC and urine findings. Please suggest.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details given and understand your concern. Her diabetes looks under control, which is excellent. Similarly het hypothyroidism also needs to be controlled effectively. Because if she feels tired or gets fatigued, that could be due to high TSH. On treatment it should be < 3 mU/L. Then only all the symptoms related to hypothyroidism are in check. So my suggestion please check her TSH, if it is still above the recommended level then you will have to increase the dose by another 12.5 to 25 mcg per day. Thyroxine should be taken early morning on empty stomach and nothing else should taken for next 1 to 1 and half hour. This has to be strictly adhered to. You will have to motivate her to get up and walk initially at home, in front of the house and later in a near by park. Daily walking for about 30 to 45 minutes will make her feel fresh. She is already on enough medications. Thanks.

First of all get your thyroid tested it is a clear symptom of thyroid. Secondly make sure that the food you are eating is nutritional and of less fat and carbohydrate. Make sure you are walking 60 minutes everyday preferably in morning apart from that a customised diet can be fruitful for you, consult me privately so that I can plan a customised dietfor your biological profile. Our target would be to reach 70 to 75 kgs in 4 months.

Relax dear lybrate user. You have to understand one basic thing. The ultimate target of love, of particularly your age group is sex. And, a healthy love must be a blend of both psychological and physical attachments to each other. Both kind of attraction and attachment is needed by both male and female. The problem here is, boys generally prefer sexual intimacy to psychological intimacy. In girls it is Vice versa. Moreover, love cant be got by forcing anybody. It should be spontaneous. Just think of a situation in which this break-up happens after marrying and having children? The pain will be tremendous. In this line of thinking, you are a lucky girl. Dont try to forget him. At the same time never beg him for love. If possible, try to keep in touch with him as good friends. Set apart time to think and talk about him to a good friend of you everyday. Other times learn something new or socialize as much as possible. Never be alone. By and by, the memories of him will start vanishing. Finally, it seems to me that yours is not of a healthy love. It is like drug dependence such as smoking, alcohol etc., which can be UNLEARNED by replacing it with other healthy habits, possibly by getting married. I hope you would understand.

Homeopathy and Rosacea

Homeopathy and Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition defined by redness and small, pus-filled red bumps all over the face. The main symptoms of rosacea include

  1. red bumps that are swollen and filled with pus (these are often confused with acne problem)
  2. visible blood vessels
  3. flushed skin (redness)
  4. thickened skin

Rosacea cannot be cured completely. Its symptoms come and go and is commonly treated with anti-acne medicines or antibiotics. Homeopathy can be a good alternative choice to treat rosacea. Rosacea has multiple symptoms and not all of them show up in a single person. Some may have redness but no visible blood vessels, some may have flushed skin, and so on.

Depending on symptoms, you can adopt the following remedies:

  1. Flushed complexion: If your skin becomes red and itchy after exposure to cold air, then Agaricus muscarius is prescribed. But if the skin is hot and shiny, then Belladonna is employed.
  2. Flushed complexion with acne like bumps: One form of rosacea is Acne Rosacea. In this form, pus filled acne like bumps appear on your nose, forehead and below the eyes. If the bumps do not have pus, then Psorinum is given. If pus is present, then Silicea is the best solution. But if the area of the skin in general has hardened and is painful, then Eugenia Jambos is employed.
  3. Visible blood vessels: If your skin looks blue and the capillaries are visible, your skin has a marbled effect with cold sweat (learn more about sweating). Carbo vegetabilis is the most effective medicine in this case. However, if your skin is hot, not cold, then Lachesis mutus is prescribed.
  4. Development of thick skin: If you leave your rosacea untreated for too long, then the area that were injured will start forming connective tissues over your skin. This leads to skin getting thicker. Hydrocotyle asiatica or Sarsaparilla officinalis is helpful in this case.
  5. If your eyes get affected by rosacea: If your eyes are hot, watery and itchy, you might have Ocular Rosacea. Euphrasia officinalis, Bovista lycoperdon (if makeup exacerbates your symptoms) and Cantharis vesicatoria (if you were out in the sun for too long) will be prescribed by the homeopath.

I am 20 year old. I have been doing half an hour exercise and controlling food. But my body fat isnt reducing. Can you please suggest some diet tips or some exercise routine for fat reduction.

Post Graduate Diploma In Dietetics
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
While I empathise with you completely. Just exercising and controlling food does not help you reduce body fat. For weight loss you need to streamline your lifestyle by modification that is scientific. Will require your diet recall to plan a personalised well balanced diet plan. There are may fad / crash diets available on the internet which even if they show results in the short term may have some health implications later or simply helps you gain back more weight then what you have lost. Avoid falling for such tall claims and opt for a slow and steady weight loss. I shall recommend a strategy to gradually change your food habits and lifestyle that have sabotaged your past efforts. Incase you are interested in getting professional help on your diet pls feel free to consult me privately on lybrate and can arrange a telephonic consultation as well.

Hello a. Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. B.
