I consulted doctors, prescribed and take medicine on time but my skin gets no better. It is been two years I have a pop like thing at my lower leg next to the ankle joint. It itches and the skin becomes nasty. Is there any other way of treatment other than medicinal. Thanx.

Calf muscle strain (gastrocnemius strain). The calf muscle typically gets strained when the foot suddenly bends upward, stretching the calf muscle beyond its limits. At the time of injury, you may hear or feel a pop inside your calf -- the sound of the muscle tearing or shearing away from the Achilles tendon. Calf muscle strains are common in athletes, especially tennis players and joggers. However, they also can happen during a simple stroll, if your foot flexes upward when you step into a hole in the sidewalk or if your heel slips off the edge of a curb.

Cracking feet need a lot of attention and care. It has to be soaked twice daily in normal water with salt and dried. Apply foot moisturiser thrice daily over it. Soaps vil dry out your skin, so they r an absolute no. No vigorous rubbing of skin on feet. Before bath, oil feet with any oil be it coconut, olive. Use a soap free cleanser or a dermatologically tested medical soap. Include dry fruits like almond, walnuts, figs, groundnuts. Have plenty of salmon, mackerel and sardine. Drink two litres of water. Have roasted flaxseeds.

Hye, Thanks for the query. Gaining weight requires you to eat more calories than you burn. Although fried or sugary foods are calorie dense, eating them exclusively won’t provide enough nutrition to keep you energetic and healthy. Eating several meals and snacks throughout the day and including nutritious, calorie-dense food will help you gain weight healthfully. Weight gain depends primarily on your genetics, age, weight and activity level. To gain weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn. If you’re not used to eating large quantities of food at one time, you may find it difficult to fit all of your calories into three meals per day. Eating nutritious, calorie-dense foods every two to three hours will help you get your calories in without making you overly full and sluggish. If you tend to forget to eat or are always on the go, bring calorie-dense snacks such as eggs, mixed nuts, fruits and dairy. Nutritious, calorie-dense foods provide essential vitamins and minerals, which promote good health and energy. Adding ghee and cream to foods adds additional calories for very little extra physical bulk. Fruit juice, masala milk provides crucial nutrients. Meal-replacement shakes and protein powder sound like good options but also remember that unless your diet is not planned sadly they won't help.

Mix three teaspoons of lemon juice, one teaspoon of honey, and one-half teaspoon of black pepper powder in one cup of water. If you use freshly ground black pepper, then just add one-quarter teaspoon. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. Do this daily for at least three months.

The only thing thats going to help you is avoid the two wheeler ride, its a known cause for slip discs and listhesis which cause backaches and frequently severe problems too. Try uisng public transport more frequently. Regarding your backpain, apply hot/cold compresses 3-4 times a day, avoid bending forwards and lifting heavy weights, try early morning joggings and have a healthy diet,

I am suffering for cholera from 10 days, I take some ORS but not feel good, now what can I do?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Udupi
I am suffering for cholera from 10 days, I take some ORS but not feel good, now what can I do?
Any diet for cholera should be aimed at minimizing the debilitating effects of dehydration. This is especially true in order to allay the loss of body fluids and salts from the body. When giving a person some liquid to quench thirst, make sure to give it only in small quantities. This is because anything that is taken internally may be vomited by the patient. Giving the liquid in small quantities will allow it to stay longer in the stomach. In turn, every additional minute in the body means more absorption for the body. Diet for cholera should consist of the following: *Upon arising, the person should drink a glass of lukewarm water with a fresh lime along with a teaspoon of honey. *For breakfast, diet should consist of fresh fruits and a glass of fresh milk with honey or buttermilk as sweeteners. *For lunch, a patient should eat steamed fresh vegetables, wheat tortilla with butter, and a glass of buttermilk.

Apple cider vinegar is a popular acidic drink with antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties that can help treat pharyngitis. It also has several nutrients and vitamins that help boost the immune system and balance the body’s pH level. Mix one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water. Add some honey and then drink it slowly. Drink this tonic at least once or twice daily until you start feeling better. You can also make a gargle solution with one teaspoon of salt, one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and one cup of warm water. Mix it well and gargle with this solution every 15 minutes as necessary to relieve your symptoms. For further queries get back to me.

Homeopathy for Oily Skin Generally people with oily skin that is shiny in nature, often suffer from pimples and blemishes on their skin. They are also prone to blackheads. Oily skin needs regular cleansing with hot water to avoid clogging of pores. The homeopathic line of treatment for oily skin helps hormonal balance and prevents excess sebum production, reduces tendency for scar formation and hyper pigmentation, and prevents exacerbations commonly observed during menstrual cycles. Further, it also fights infections or inflammations causing redness. Tips for a Glowing Skin To retain the skin’s moisture drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water every day.Protect your skin from harmful UV radiation.Nourish your skin with moisturisers and understand your skin type.Do not choose unhealthy skin care products that ensure immediate results.Cleanse your face with the right cleanser as per ypur skin type and wash it thoroughly to extract pollutants and dirt from the surface of the skin.

Few Essential Tips To Maintain Glow In Rainy Season

MBBS, MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Delhi
Few Essential Tips To Maintain Glow In Rainy Season

After a long summer, the first monsoon showers are something everyone looks forward to. After the third shower, this love often abates and the humid, damp weather causes a host of skin infections. Thus, it becomes essential to take extra care of the skin during the rainy season.

Here are a few tips to help your skin maintain its glow:

  • Drink plenty of water: Though the weather is humid, the rainy season can make the skin dehydrated. Thus, it is important to drink plenty of water. This keeps the skin hydrated and avoids the accumulation of toxins in the body. 8 -10 glasses of water a day is the minimum intake required during the rainy season. Lotion based serums and water based moisturizers can also help keep the skin hydrated.
  • Let your skin breathe: During the rainy season, avoid heavy makeup and foundation. Use water based moisturizers instead of oil based moisturizers. Leaving makeup on for too long during this season can enlarge your pores, block them and lead to acne breakouts. If you must use makeup, ensure that it is properly removed at the end of the day.
  • Watch your diet: The condition of your skin mirrors the quality of your diet. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to keep your skin glowing. Avoid spicy food that can cause erratic blood circulation and lead to allergies and skin irritations.
  • Wash your face frequently: As soon as you get home from a day in the rain, wash your face with lukewarm water. Use a soap free cleanser and a scrub to keep your skin clean. After cleaning your face, use an alcohol free toner to close your pores and balance the pH levels of your skin.
  • Avoid bleaching: Bleaching and facials could do more harm than good in the rainy season. This can make your skin rough.
  • Use sunscreen: Sunscreen protects the skin from UVA and UVB rays. While UVB rays may be blocked by the overcast sky, UVA rays pass through windows and clouds as well. UV radiation not only accelerates signs of skin aging but can also lead to skin cancer. Thus, do not forget to wear sunscreen whether the sky is clear or not.
  • Keep skin dry: As far as possible, keep your skin dry to fight fungal infections. Any place where the skin folds rub against each other is susceptible to such infections. During the rainy season, the feet are most prone of fungal infections. If you've walked through puddles of rainwater, wash your feet as soon as you get home and dry them properly. Also, avoid synthetic clothes that trap moisture and switch to cotton.

With these tips, your skin will be healthy and remain glowing throughout the season. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.

Migraine cannot be cured. Avoid triggers. If certain foods or odors seem to have triggered your migraines in the past, avoid them. Reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake and avoid tobacco. In general, establish a daily routine with regular sleep patterns and regular meals. In addition, try to control stress. Exercise regularly. Regular aerobic exercise reduces tension and can help prevent migraines. If your doctor agrees, choose any aerobic exercise you enjoy, including walking, swimming and cycling. Warm up slowly, however, because sudden, intense exercise can cause headaches. Obesity is also thought to be a factor in migraine headaches, and regular exercise can help you maintain a healthy weight or lose weight.

Rheumatoid factor value of 2 is negative. But if you have swelling and pain of hand joints then you need to meet a Rheumatologist specifically to define what type of arthritis it is. There are other tests that can help in making diagnosis. RF can be negative in 20% patients of RA. WHETHER YOU HAVE SWELLING OF JOINTS OR GENERALISED SWELLING NEEDS TO BE ASSESSED BY PHYSICAL EXAMINATION BY A RHEUMATOLOGIST.
