How does this medication work?
This drug is composed of Atenolol and Chlorthalidone. Atenolol blocks beta receptors sites in the heart, blood vessels, and lungs. This results in inhibition of epinephrine resulting in relaxed blood vessels, thus pressure is lowered and blood flow to the heart is improved. Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that is used to treat hypertension. Due to the sodium and chloride symporter inhibition, as a result of the drug use, the elements do not get reabsorbed in the blood stream.
