Dear Lybrate user. In many of the cases Stammering has two important reasons. Vocal chord misalignment or other problems are the primary reason. For this vocal chord complaint, you should consult an ENT specialist and get it corrected. Second reason is purely psychological. Stammer therapy can help you in psychological reasons. Take care.

One journalist asked him humoursly "Do you always have stammering. He replied with more humour that "only when I speak" So don't loose confidence. Proud of your other capabilities. There are speech therapy methods also to improve your stammering.

I could understand your problem. For this you have to consult a Speech Therapist first in your city as it's going to be ATLEAST 2 to 3 months Therapy. A visit to a Dentist is important as your Teeth problem should be fixed if possible. This may be one of the causes which has reduced your confidence. To evaluate your Voice you have to consult the Speech Therapist.

Causes of Stuttering

MASLP
Speech Therapist, Noida

Many young kids go through a stage between the ages of 2 and 5 when they stutter, repeating certain syllables, words or phrases, prolonging them, or stopping, making no sound for certain sounds and syllables. Stuttering is a form of dysfluency — an interruption in the flow of speech.

In many cases, stuttering goes away on its own by age 5; in others, it lasts longer.

There's no cure for stuttering, but effective treatments are available and you can help your child overcome it.

Experts think that a variety of factors contribute to stuttering, including:

  • Genetics about 60% of those who stutter have a close family member who stutters.
  • Other speech and language problems or developmental delays.
  • Differences in the brain's processing of language: people who stutter process language in different areas of the brain. And there's a problem with the way the brain's messages interact with the muscles and body parts needed for speaking.
  • High/increased activity level.
  • Rapid rate of speech.

I am 19 years old and when I record my audio. It feels like a 14-15 year boy is speaking. My voice is so immature. Will it mature after 20s? What should I do to deepen my voice?

Hello sir / madam from many days in am secreting saliva too much while speaking its just spraying a bit much how can I control?

MDS

Hello sir / madam from many days in am secreting saliva too much while speaking its just spraying a bit much how can ...
Many a times increased salivation can be due to the local irritants present on the teeth. Pls get ur teeth cleaned first. Then look for any spacing in ur front teeth, if possible get it filled or orthodontically treated. Chlorhexidine m/w also helps in some patients after scaling process to maintain oral hygiene. Pls let me know if u are relieved by the above mentioned ways.

Stammering is not a big problem, it totally based on your confidence level. You stammer while speaking because your confidence level is low definately. Clinical hypnotherapy is a best way to improve your confidence and once the confidence get improve your stammering get overcome definitely.

This is in furterance to my earlier query regarding speech problem. Root canal was done on lower right side molar and premolar. It was done in last year June. But other dentist neurologists here did not agree with the anesthesia effect. It is almost 10 months. Any medication or exercise for it.

BDS, MDS
Dentist, Gorakhpur
hypoglossal nerve injury can be diagnosed easily, but who is performing that nerve testing matters. RCT might be just a coincidence after which problem starts or can be a trumatic needle injury during root canal procedure which is very rare to damage hypoglossal nerve but chances are and hence can not be ignored. Now if 10 months has been elapsed for mri also you can get it done again for any visible changes related to your problem. After reports you can connect with us if required. THANK YOU.

My 10 years old daughter is not yet able to pronounce ch, shhh mantra in Hindi her English is his but Hindi language is not much clear .What should b done .As she has improved a lot in 2 years as she realize that her pronunciation is not correct lot of improvement but still does speech therapy will help her. Nearby hospital r they his enough in this. Really bit worried as sometimes v don't understand why is she saying n she says specially if she says quickly. If she speaks slowly thn words r clear.

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT), Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health Management

If she can speak English language without any problem of pronunciation and only problem is with few hindi syllable then she probably do not require speech therapy, she requires attention and correct repetition of those words and monosyllables. Motivate child to speak slowly and reinforce her when she speaks clearly. As a parent you try to speak with her as slowly as possible. Please ask her teacher also to do the same in class.
