I am 60 yrs old lady yesterday while colouring my hair a little amount entered in my right eye even though I have cleaned with water immediately still pain is persisting. What I should do?

MBBS, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Hyderabad
If the amount is very little, and if it has not involved your cornea (the central" black" of the eye), then some lubricating eye drops such Zyaqua or Irivisc or Refresh, may help. However, if the pain is significant, it is safer to get your eyes examined by an ophthalmologist and get the appropriate treatment.

Hello, you should do the below given exercises to strengthen your ocular muscles. Exercises for eyes: warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Focus. Hold a pen at arm's length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it's about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 10 times in all. Massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. Take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids.

Common Signs You Need Glasses

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology, Diploma in Ophthalmology , Fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment

Common Signs You Need Glasses

The ability to see is one of our greatest powers and it needs to be valued and looked after. Sometimes this involves wearing glasses to improve our vision. Spectacles not only help us see better but also prevent straining and further deterioration of the eye muscles. Here are a few signs to watch out for that will indicate your need for spectacles. Keep in mind however that a comprehensive eye exam is the only way to determine the power required for your spectacles.

-  Blurred vision
Blurred vision or the inability to focus on something in the distance is one of the first signs or eye deterioration. When it comes to children, watch out for complaints of inability to read the writing on class blackboards.

-  Frequent headaches
Unexplained headaches that come and go could be a sign that you need glasses. These headaches can usually be felt at the end of a long day or after watching television.

-  Constant squinting
Squinting is a natural way to improve vision. This is because the act of squinting reduces extra light and light scattering thus allowing us to see something clearer. Thus, if you notice yourself squinting more than usual it is time to schedule an eye exam.

-  Difficulty working on a computer
Struggling to read figures and words on a computer screen is usually a sign of poor vision. Try adjusting your screen angle and the distance of the screen from your eyes to see if your vision improves or worsens.

-  Difficulty adjusting to lights
Sudden increased sensitivity to lights can be a sign of many eye disorders with vision problems being the most common.

-  Eye strain
Occasional pain in the eyes after a long day or as a result of an allergic reaction is nothing to worry about. However, if this pain persists for a few days, it could be an indication that you need spectacles.
Deterioration of vision is usually a very gradual process and so you may not realize when it begins. However, the earlier you start wearing corrective glasses to improve your vision the easier it will be to control the deterioration of the eye muscles and you may even be able to rectify your condition completely. So, do not ignore any of these warning signs. Even if you do not have any of these symptoms, it is a good idea to get a thorough eye examination at least once a year.

Hello, Include the following for getting better vision: Vitamins A, C, E, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic and onions. Blueberries, grapes as they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. DHA is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel. Hi" Old is really a Gold" – remember this phase? In fact, it is very true. While selecting the material of the plate or glass or bowl, the healthiest cookware choices are those that use classic materials such as stainless steel and cast iron which wouldn't harm your body! What you want to look for when evaluating the healthfulness of cookware is whether the material that it is made from carries much toxic risk and how likely the cookware materials are to leach into the food during cooking. Using these two criteria, stainless steel and cast iron are the best choices. Avoid using aluminum, copper, and non-stick cookware. Avoid hard plastic melamine dishes.  They are made by combining the chemical melamine with formaldehyde (which is considered a known human carcinogen). Earthenware, porcelain, and pottery (ceramic) utensils can be used for both cooking and serving food. They are durable, and are excellent for slow, even cooking in even heat, such as slow baking. However, they are comparatively unsuitable for cooking using a direct heat, such as a cooking over a flame. When it comes to dishware, glass is a great choice, followed by ceramic dishware with lead-free glaze.  If you are concerned about breakage - food grade silicone (Kinderville brand), high quality 304-grade stainless steel and bamboo or wood  containing food-safe finishes are all safe options. The safest materials for cookware and bakeware include: glass, high quality 304 grade stainless steel, cast iron and Xtrema ceramic cookware. Avoid Teflon and any other chemical non-stick coatings. When using stainless steel cookware, know that deeply scratched and pitted pans can cause metals (nickel and chromium) to migrate into food in trace amounts. These are not toxic elements, so there is not really cause for concern unless you have a specific allergy or sensitivity.  But to play it safe, avoid frequent use of abrasive materials with stainless steel cookware. If you must use plastic in the kitchen: Choose BPA-Free, PVC-free plastic. Do not heat in the microwave (“microwave-safe” only means that the plastic won’t actually melt – the extreme heat of the oven will increase transference of chemicals). Do not store fatty, greasy or acidic foods in plastic. Do not use scratched, badly worn or cloudy plastics for your food and beverages. Hand-wash plastics to avoid wear and tear. When it comes to food storage, safer materials include: glass, 304 grade stainless steel, food-grade silicone – all of which do not leach chemicals into your food. (Last, but not least the most important and concern fact is the Kitchen sponges which are used to clean the utensils can grow harmful bacteria, yeasts, and molds. The best ways to kill germs on a kitchen sponge are: Microwave the sponge on high for one minute, which kills up to 99% of germs or keep it in the sunlight after every use. Another option is to buy a new sponge each week.)

My eyes are hurting while studying for a couple of hours. I use spectacles with a minus power of 0.25. What should I ...
This condition is called Eye strain, or asthenopia, in which the eyes get tired from excessive or intense use. It can be annoying, but it tends to disappear with rest. Although it’s not often a serious condition, eye strain could be a symptom of an underlying problem. Eye strain is known to cause fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and headaches----------- Eye strain may lead to other problems, such as:---------- •Headaches--- •Difficulty Concentrating--- •Irritability--- •Burning Sensation--- •Watery Eyes--- •Dry Eyes-- •Photophobia--- •Eye Pain---. The first thing you can do is change your environment and work habits. By doing this you can relieve the pain without spending money on treatment--------------------- If you studying or reading, taking eye breaks for five minutes every hour can lessen the strain on your eyes. Simply closing your eyes for a few moments can also do wonders. Try standing up, moving around, or taking a short walk to help regain concentration. Regular eye exercises that involve focusing on different distances can help prevent future straining. Blink often. Blinking refreshes and replenishes your eyes naturally. If you are having trouble with blinking due to the dryness of your eyes, try using Homoeopathic ------CINELUBE EYEDROPS (HAPDCO) 3 times daily.
