Super Foods for Diabetics!

Good evening everyone. I am Divya Gandhi. I am owner and dietician at Diet and Cure. Today, I am going to talk about certain things including Diabetes.

As you know, this is a very common disease which even people and kids are suffering from. So, how to prevent and cure this disease? There are four things which people generally take in a day, first is chapatti, second are vegetables, third are fruits and the last is oil. So, we will start with chapattis, person who is diabetic or is at risk of diabetes, should be taking a chapatti which contains barley, which we call as “jaw” in hindi. Barley and kala chana aata roti, this works in your carbohydrate metabolism and reduces the glucose levels in the blood. Secondly, we talk about vegetables. People come to me and ask me what all vegetables are allowed in diabetes. Apart from starch you can ideally take all the vegetables. Vegetables which are not allowed are potatoes, jackfruit and arbi.

But one thing that matters the most is the method of cooking these vegetables. One should not overcook the vegetables for example you should not pressure cooker the vegetables, the softer the vegetables the more glucose intake it will be in your blood. Third, we talk about fruit, though it depends on the sugar levels which fruits are allowed but there are two fruits which are completely safe that is jamun and guava. These two fruits can be taken in any quantity for a person who is suffering from diabetes. Fourth is fat, fat is generally should be avoided for a person suffering from diabetes however, it should not be completely off from your diet. Oil should not float on the vegetables. It should be what is required for cooking.

Now, we will talk about the herbs which also help to control the sugar levels.

  • Number 1 is karela and jamun powder, both these things if taken together half an hour before your meal can act as a diabetic medicine and will reduce the blood sugar levels.
  • Secondly, fenugreek seeds water which is generally also called methi dana which if we soak it in water for about ¼th teaspoon at night and consume the water along with the seeds next morning can reduce the blood sugar levels.
  • Third, is the barley seeds water, if we soak barley seeds in a bottle of water, about 1 teaspoon of barley in water and consume that water every day it will help in carbohydrate metabolism plus barley seeds are cold in potency, it will give your body a little bit of hydration during this weather.

So, this is all I wanted to tell about diabetes, lastly I would like to thank all of you for contacting me through lybrate.

Check if you have it - Type 2 diabetes

MBBS
General Physician, Jammu
Check if you have it - Type 2 diabetes

There are a number of lifestyle ailments that plague people around the world. Cardiovascular diseases, high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes are just a few of them. Diabetes means your blood sugar level, called glucose, is too high. Blood glucose is the main kind of sugar found in your blood and is supposed to be your main source of energy. Glucose originates from the food that you eat and is additionally made in your liver and muscles. Your blood supplies glucose to the rest of your body's cells to use as a source of energy.

Your pancreas are situated between your stomach and spine. It assists with absorption of glucose from food and discharges a hormone called insulin, into your blood. Insulin helps your blood transport glucose to all your body's cells. In some cases your body doesn't make enough insulin or the insulin doesn't work the way it ought to. Glucose then stays in your blood and doesn't reach your cells.

The signs and symptoms of diabetes are as follows:

  1. Being extremely thirsty

  2. Urinating regularly

  3. Feeling hungry

  4. Feeling tired

  5. Getting thinner without attempting

  6. Wounds that mend gradually

  7. Dry, bothersome skin

  8. Feeling of pins and needles in your feet

  9. Losing sensation in your feet

  10. Hazy vision

Type 1 diabetes is found mostly in youngsters. In type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin or enough insulin because of the the body's vulnerable immune system. It protects you from contamination by getting rid of bacteria, infections, and other destructive substances.

Treatment for type 1 Diabetes:

  1. Taking regular injections of insulin

  2. Medicines as prescribed by the specialist

  3. Healthy food choices

  4. Being physically active

  5. Controlling your circulatory strain levels. Circulatory strain is the pressure of blood flow inside your veins.

  6. Controlling cholesterol levels

Type 2 diabetes can influence individuals at any age. It is known to affect moderately aged and elderly individuals. People who are overweight and inert are more prone to type 2 Diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes normally starts with insulin resistance, a condition that happens when fat, muscle and liver cells do not utilise insulin to supply glucose to the body's cells to draw energy. Accordingly, the body needs more insulin to help glucose enter the cells. At such an instance, the pancreas start producing more insulin. Over the long haul, the pancreas do not make enough insulin when glucose levels increase, for example, after meals. If your pancreas can no more make enough insulin, you should treat your type 2 diabetes.

Treatment for type 2 Diabetes:

  1. Utilising diabetes prescriptions

  2. Settling on solid food decisions

  3. Being physically active

  4. Controlling your circulatory strain levels

  5. Controlling your cholesterol levels

  6. Weight loss is the most important if you are overweight. Avoid junk food and sugar, exercise regularly and take medicines on-time.

  7. Regular follow-up to a physician is important

Hello, Thanks for the query. Fasting glucose 212 mg, HbA1c% 9, both show that you have uncontrolled diabetes. That means present treatment is not adequate. Plus we will have to give a closer look at your diet and exercise too. Ideally when diabetes is well controlled fasting should be < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% < 6.8. Therefore, there is need for change in treatment that is going on now. In this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines, no prescriptions are allowed. So if you are interested in getting online help, please come in a private conversation (paid consultation) then I will be able to guide specifically. Thanks.

Report of pp urine may not be correct. Get it rechecked. If your pp blood sugar is 128 do not worry about urine sugar. You are not a diabetic.

Do not try to remove it yourself. Get it removed from the doctor. Its a simple and painless procedure where the doctor will scrape the corn out and provide you a cream and footwear to prevent the corn from recurring.
