I hve delivered a baby boy recently. He is a month old now. I wud lik to know if its fine if my baby sleeps without any feeds for long. I do breast feeding. He refuses to suck milk while in sleep evn if I try to feed him. He stays without any feeds for SIX to SEVEN HOURS. Is this a matter of concern? How do I overcom this situation?

Hi Usually baby demands feeds at approx 3-3.5 hrs interval and thus be fed so. But sometimes babies prefer to sleep and take a longer interval between a few feeds in a day. As long as baby is passing urine adequately say 7-8 times in a day, it should be okay. We recommend demand feeds to baby if urine output stats ok.

What if cystic fibrosis patient is not able to bring out mucus because mucus is so thick?

MBBS
General Physician,
Do steam inhalation regularly do warm saline gargle. Have homemade freshly prepared lemon juice which is rich in vitamin c thereby increasing your body autoimmune system which prevents infection. You can have cough expectorants like benadryl cough syrup.

My son is 5 year's old he is often infected (viral) and complains of stomach pain regularly. Recent ultrasound confirms mesentronic lymph nodes between 6 mm to 12 mm on short axis in abdomen. Please advice me.

MD - Paediatrics, FIAP (Neonatology)
Pediatrician, Chandigarh
Mesenteric lymphadenitis (enlarged lymph nodes) are not so uncommon in children. As far as your child is concerned size is small. First thing is to rule out infection / tb. Any history of tb contact? you can give him a trial of antibiotics for seven days. And can get a repeat usg for the size of lymph nodes.

My grandson aged nine weeks old has not passed stool since ten days. He is breast fead, normal and weighed 5 kgs. He is quite normal active and has no other problems. Please let me know what to do for making him to pass stool.

General Physician,
If he otherwise active there is no danger and breastfed babies may not pass motion for a week or more which is not problem. Ut if you are scared you can out a pediatric Dulcolax suppository in the anus and it will help pass motion. If this is a regular feature it will be advisable to do a thyroid screening by doing TSH test.

By a single test is not what we use to see if ther is infection. If you hear the sound of phlegm rattling when he coughs, you can assure he is infected. Any way he has infection as the reason of cough. It can be bacterial or viral. If there is no phlegm and only dry cough it is allergic cough.
