Do whitening toothpastes whiten teeth more than regular toothpastes and is it safe to microwave food in food plastic containers?

BDS
Dentist, Ghaziabad
Do whitening toothpastes whiten teeth more than regular toothpastes and is it safe to microwave food in food plastic ...
Whitening toothpastes have more abrasive property along with little percentage of bleaching agent. They will not only abrade your enamel surface but can also cause sensitivity of your teeth. The colour of your dentition is the natural color given by God. It is the color of your dentin that reflects thru enamel. Secondly cooking food in microwave in normal plastic containers is not at all safe. Researches and studies shows incidence of cancer. Not only with microwave cooking but also normal plastic material when it comes in contact with the heat does some harmful chemical reaction that is said to be risky and contributing factor of cancer. I don't know how much the containers that r so to say microwave safe r good.

I am having slight jaw pain in both sides of my and its shape is not consistent that it changes or enlarges when my face is stressed, its so over whelmi, why does jaw enlarges when there is stress?

MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Hi going by your description, I am inclined to think you might have a habit of grinding your teeth, esp. In of stress. This has led to chronic inflammation of the jaw joints, resulting in the pain. Also, due to constant overuse, the jaw closing muscles might have become enlarged, and they enlarge further when in prolonged continuous use, when you are clenching your teeth while under stress. Suggest you try and notice if the clenching of teeth happens at such times. If it does, you need to make a conscious effort not to do so. Sometimes, it might be necessary to fabricate intra oral appliances to protect the teeth. The problem of jaw enlargement may get rectified if the habit is effectively broken. In any case, see an oral surgeon for assessment and necessary intervention.

MDS - Orthodontics
Dentist,
Hi chewing food becomes difficult when the amount of saliva in the mouth has reduced. This could be due to medications or due to radiotherapy. She could use artificial saliva which keeps the mouth moist.

There are several causes of tooth discoloration, including: Foods/drinks. Coffee, tea, colas, wines, and certain fruits and vegetables (for example, apples and potatoes) can stain your teeth. Poor dental hygiene. Inadequate brushing and flossing.... Here is home remedy for brighter teeth--- Mix several teaspoons of baking soda with enough fresh lemon juice (or water) to make a paste. Wipe your teeth and any extra saliva off of them with a paper towel. Put a good amount of paste onto your toothbrush and apply. The best bleeding gums treatment is to remove from your teeth the plaque bacteria that causes gum disease. When dental plaque builds up, it turns into tartar, a hard, sticky substance that adheres to your teeth. Without regular teeth cleanings, dental tartar can become a breeding ground for even more plaque, which can creep below the gum line and lead to an infection that causes bleeding gums. So if you notice that you have bleeding gums, see a dentist as soon as you can. Seeking bleeding gums treatment at the first sign of a problem can help reverse gingivitis and help prevent periodontal disease. Other treatment options, such as scaling and root planing procedures, slow down the process of gum disease. If you suffer from an advanced form of periodontal disease, your dentist may recommend ongoing bleeding gums treatment or periodontal therapy. In some cases, dental surgery may be needed to control the bleeding For any more query or treatment visit us today.

Dear lybrate-user, if your ulcer is occurring at the same spot in the mouth then it may be due to some kind of irritation of the spot like in the cheek by a tooth. For this you have to get a dental checkup done by a dentist. In case the ulcers are occurring in different spots then you have to be careful about dental hygiene. Brush your teeth daily at least twice inaday for at least 2 min each time. Also floss your tongue &rinse your mouth after every meal. Avoid spicy food. Lastly please go & get a checkup done by a dentist.
