1. Prepare yourself for the rakshabandhan-this means you need to be careful from few days in advance and have a check on your calorie intake right from the morning of rakshabandhan

Yesterday was my wife's period's 4th and last day. We had sex last night without protection. Should she use pill? If there is any chance to be pregnant?

MD, MBBS
General Physician, Noida
No need to give her anything, she would not get pregnant, if it was 4th day of menses (The day when menses started is counted as 1st day) If you have sex when she is in 12th-16th day of menses (when menses started is counted as first day), and she has not take pills, chances of her getting pregnant are very high. If it is 8th-11thday of 17th-20th day of menses pregnancy may or may not occur. Risk is there. If it is1st to 7th day or 21st to 28th day of her menses, there are no chances of her getting pregnant. In future use safe period 1st to 7th day of menses or 21st to 28th day of menses if she has 28 days cycle.(if she has 26 or 30 days cycle calculations would change). If do have intercourse from 8th day to 20th day, use condom or today or i-pill.

Is a Low-salt Diet Thwarting Your Health Goals?

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science

Is a Low-salt Diet Thwarting Your Health Goals?

Most dieticians are of the opinion that limiting your salt intake is essential, as an increased amount of salt in the system can damage your kidneys, heart and may increase your blood pressure, and chances of stroke. On the other hand, decreasing it beyond a point can prove to be detrimental to your health in various ways as well.

However, when relating to blood pressure, an increased salt intake can prove harmful to you only if you already have high blood pressure. In the case of normal levels of blood pressure, excess salt consumption will not prove to be too dangerous. Here are the ways in which low salt intake can prove to be detrimental for your health:

  • Increases chances of heart diseases: Having a lower amount of salt in your diet - i.e. less than 2000 mg per day increases the risk of heart-related disorders, which include, but may not be limited to, strokes or heart attacks, exponentially.
  • Decreases the body's level of sodium: Decreased levels of sodium in the body, often a direct byproduct of a reduced salt intake, can lead to a number of complications. Sodium is essential for maintaining electrolyte and mineral balance in the body. A decrease in sodium levels in the system, in extreme cases, can lead to hyponatremia, which can prove detrimental for the kidneys or liver.

Salt, which mainly contains two radicals - sodium and chloride ions, are essential for life. However, they can be obtained only through food as it is not manufactured intrinsically. There are several essential reasons for why salt intake in the optimal amounts is absolutely crucial in maintaining healthy body functioning:

  • It is an essential component of blood plasma, as well as several other crucial body fluids such as extracellular fluid, lymphatic fluid, and amniotic fluid.
  • It is important for maintenance and regulation of a proper level of blood pressure.
  • Sodium, in the context of body physiology, is critical in maintaining a proper acid-base level in your system and in controlling the levels of your body fluid.
  • The exchange of sodium and potassium ions, both obtained from salts, is also essential for muscle movement and in sending signals from the brain to the muscles.

Hi lybrate-user. For a healthy woman 28_30 days are considered as a regular cycle. As per your reports yours is a regular cycle. You can consider 12 _14 days from the day of menstruation is considered as the fertile period since these days are ovulation period. So conception chance is more. Take healthy & rich fibre diet. Take urud dhal along with gingelly oil early morning empty stomach. Advice your husband to take milk, walnuts daily. Begetting a child must be a choice not a chance.

Pls help me I hav tb infection and I am pregnant nw some Dr. r saying abort and one is saying keep so what to do.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
Normal tuberculosis (i. E not drug resistant) can be treated along with presence of pregnancy. Not to worry if one has been given rifampicin, isoniazid, ethambutol and pyrazinamide for treatment of tb along with pregnancy. So no need for abortion but regular consultation with gynaecologist for monitoring fetal well being growth and development is needed.

First of all relax, according to your reports you have taken right decision. Nothing special is required for this, all you need to do is be patient in the whole process and follow your doctors instruction, this process is not at all painful, this is totally lab procedure till implantation of baby in you. Donor are selected who matches the patient profile, it is not so that baby will look like donor. It depends on both ovum and sperm.
