Hello lybrate user, get your x-ray of the knee joint in standing weight bearing position in anteroposterior and lateral projections. Mostly it is has osteoarthritis of the knee joint wherein the articular cartilage of the joint gets progressively degenerative. Common in old age and indian population use knee caps regular exercise hot water bag some natural medicines x-ray and her level of discomfort will dictate the management plan. God bless you.

Hi 1) wear comfortable sports shoes 2) make daily routine of exercise 3) rule out calcium and vit d deficiency 4) do proper warm up before exercise and cool down after exercise 5) do stretching of legs do exercise under supervision of skilled physiotherapist. My mother who is 63 years old, has high bp and cholesterol, because of this one of her kidney is scarred. Doctor asked her to reduce weight. She started walking in the morning but due to acute pain in knee (arthritis pain) she is not able to do her regular walking. : keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Hello lybrate-user, pain in leg is common at all ages. There are various causes of leg pain- cramps muscle spasm muscle fatigue nutritional deficiencies dehydration standing for long hours injuries medical conditions like arthritis, gout, dvt, restless leg syndrome, varicose veins, etc. One should try and find out the real cause of it for early treatment and control. Some temporary relief majors are - # ice fomentation - if leg pain is due to physical exertion or fresh injury. You can do it with an ice pack or put ice cubes in a normal plastic bag or zip lock bag n then cover this with a piece of cotton cloth for fomentation. # hot fomentation with hot water andhalf cup of epsom salt. It is a muscle relaxant and regulate nerve signals. Massage with hot oil is also relaxing. Regular exercise will also help. Advice on calcium intake is possible only after detail case history. For any medicinal advise you can consult me. Regards,

Hello, there could be a injury to your nerve during the fall. Most of them recover fully, but take about 2-3 months. Inform your surgeon and he will do the needful.

Back pain could be mechanical basically due to long sitting hours. So you should get up every 2-3 hrs from the chair and do back stretching or extension exercises, also neck stretching. Besides that ergonomic chairs should be used and proper posture should be maintained while working, avoid slouching. You can learn core strengthening and back extension exercises from a physiotherapist and do it every day twice, this will help in strengthening your back muscles.
