I am 22 years old and am I very much worried about my hair falling. What can I do to protect it?
Is your hair loss accompanied with greying of hair and have they become very thin? your hair needs a very high protein well-rounded diet. Hair and nails are the last organs to get nutrition in the body, hence only if all the organs get sufficient nutrition and proteins, only then the remaining nutrition would be used for hairs. A strand of hair is composed of mostly protein, which means your hair needs protein to grow. Hence a therapeutic diet prescribed by a registered dietitian can help a lot in hair growth. Besides diet excessive stress, current/past dandruff and some medication are conclusively known to retard hair growth and promote hair loss. - cut down on the use of hair spray, hair gels, and styling creams that contain harsh chemical ingredients, which can dry out the scalp and cause the formation of flakes. Also harsh treatments such as perms, colours, relaxers etc take a toll on the health of your hair. - avoid changing your shampoo and conditioner constantly. Stick to one good mild cleansing shampoo for six months before changing. - excessive exposure to the sun, pollution, rain water and dust without proper protection makes the hair dry, brittle and limp. Use a live in conditioner during the rains to protect it from the humidity and wash and oil it regularly to maintain a healthy scalp. I may also prescribe medications like biotin or minox. That are proven to help in hair growth and repair

We were out of our clothes but we dint had sex But her cycles were supposed to have started yesterday Nd this is first time any delay has occurred in her cycles Can she be pregnant? We are hundred percent sure we dint had sex but we searched online Nd found that mere contact of penis (or precum NOT SPERM) with vagina can lead to pregnancy We aren't sure if this is true We haven't tried any confirmatory tests yet Our doubt is Can our case lead to pregnancy Should we wait for a day or two for the cycles or go buy pregnancy kits to confirm Nd since we live in different places she is bit nervous Nd hence instead buying a pregnancy kit we are thinking of trying the toothpaste Nd sugar technique that we came across

Dear Lybrate user. Pregnancy can happen only if the semen gets ejaculated within vagina. There are other ifs and buts like, time of menstrual cycles, sperm health etc. In the given case, there is no chance of the girl getting pregnant. Take care.

I am 20 year old man and I have problem of negative thinking. Always when I think about any situation or any conditio...
Hi, Negative thinking can be a habit of mind. Thoughts sink in and linger there until you take action to get rid of them. When you first start thinking negatively, it can be tempting to try and force those thoughts out of your head. You try as hard as possible to stop thinking about them and push them out. But this approach often backfires. Resisting those negative thoughts can actually reinforce that thinking pattern and just make things worse. The more you try not to think about something, the more you actually end up thinking about it. To get rid of negative thinking, you need to try a different approach – something that will clear your mind of those negative thoughts once and for all. Here are seven ways to clear your mind of negative thinking. 1. Change your body language Take a moment to observe your body language. Are you slouching with a closed stance? Are you frowning? If you are, you’re more likely to think negatively. Bad body language can lower your self-image and lead to a lack of confidence. In that emotional state, it’s only natural to start having bad thoughts. Sit up straight in a confident manner. Open your stance and smile more. Fix your body language and you’ll feel a lot better. It might be just what you need to clear those negative thoughts. 2. Talk it out Sometimes negative thinking occurs because you have issues or emotions you need to get out. It’s not good to keep things to yourself. If you have something that needs to be addressed, you should talk through them with someone. Putting things into words gives your thoughts shape and form. That can help you put things into perspective so you can deal with them at the root of the problem. 3. Spend one minute calming your mind of all thought When your mind is running a mile a minute, it can be hard to keep up. With everything racing around your head, it can be hard to control the thoughts going on inside – especially the negative ones. Slow things down. One minute of calming is often all it takes. It’s kind of like meditation – you’re emptying your mind. Think of it as a reboot. Once it’s empty, you can fill it with something a little more positive. 4. Change the tone of your thoughts Sometimes negative thinking is the result of poor perspective. Take a look at the point of view you take on the things going on around you. For example, instead of thinking, “I’m going through a difficult time and I’m having trouble,” think “I’m facing some challenges, but I’m working on finding solutions.” You’re basically saying the same thing, except the second way has a more positive spin to it. But sometimes that little tonal shift can make a huge difference to your thinking patterns. 5. Be creative When negative thoughts come, it can pay to spend some time creatively. Find a creative outlet for your thoughts. Write things out. Draw or paintsomething – even if you have to use a crayon. As long as you’re using your creativity to get your negativity out, it can work. Exploring your emotions through creativity acts like auto-therapy and can elevate your mood. Creativity can feel like a release. When you put your emotions through an art form, you get them out of your system and clear them out. 6. Take a walk Because thoughts arise in the mind, it’s easy to assume that’s where they’re formed. Well, that’s only partly true. Sometimes our thoughts are a product of our environment. For example, if you surrounded yourself with negative people and negative imagery, you’d probably start to think negatively in turn. Stepping away from a negative environment can help immensely. Take a walk alone away from your usual atmosphere. Head somewhere uplifting like a park or museum. Time spent distancing yourself from those negative influences can bring you great peace of mind. 7. Start listing out what you’re grateful for Have you forgotten all the good things you have going for you? Sometimes in the daily grind, we lose focus on all the ways things that are going right in our lives. If that’s you, then you need to re-train your mind to focus on all the good happening around you instead of the bad. List off everything you’re grateful for no matter how small they seem to be. Don’t take anything for granted anymore. Sometimes the good things in our lives are right in front of our faces and we still fail to see them. Stop being blind to the positive things you already have going for you. Consult for therapy.

6 Crucial Tests You Must Do If You Have Diabetes
========================================
High is our spirit when it comes to having chatpata khaana, cold drinks, ice creams and fast food. How excited are we in going for tests regularly once we feel diabetes creeping into our system or when we have been diagnosed of diabetes?
Going for diabetes-related check-ups is something most of us don’t take seriously. Unfortunately, most of us don’t realize the negative impact of diabetes on our body including the brain, kidneys, heart, legs and eyes. High levels of blood sugar can lead to kidney damage, blurred vision and blindness, high cholesterol and heart disease, poor blood circulation in feet and legs causing amputation in severe cases. Before it starts to cause more harm to you, it is time to go for a couple of routine tests, starting today.
Test 1 – Hemoglobin A1c
Many diabetics miss out on this one!
Getting your fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels are simply not enough.
HbA1c measures our average blood sugar of the previous three months. This is done in order to see if the blood sugar has stayed within the target and permissible range.
If the curious you want to know more about HbA1c, then here we go:
The red blood cells in our body have haemoglobin which enables the cells to facilitate oxygen in the tissues. As the cell ages, glucose molecules stick to it called ‘glycation’ in medical terms. Higher glycated haemoglobin means higher glucose levels in the blood which means higher HbA1c reading. Though normal Hb1c for non-diabetics is 4% to 5%, poorly controlled diabetes has HbA1c value of 7%. If HbA1C exceeds 8%, it means blood sugar has gone out of control.
Test 2 – Dilated Eye
People suffering from diabetes need to consult their ophthalmologist for a dilated eye exam. It’s a test in which the pupils are widened by putting eye drops so as to check any signs of blindness.
High blood sugar levels as a result of diabetes can damage the blood vessels in the retina. If not treated on time, the blood vessels can bleed leading to blurred vision and damaging the retina thereby leading to blindness in the longer run. Therefore, it’s advisable for patients suffering from Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes to go for a proper eye examination once a year. This will help in identifying eye problems and any malfunctioning in eyesight or vision that is related to diabetes. The more the delay in eye check-ups, the more are the chances of developing ocular problems.
Test 3 – Foot Examination
Patients suffering from diabetes often complain of numbness and decreased blood circulation in foot. Often they are not able to see if their foot gets injured. Even if an infection occurs, healing is slow in diabetics increasing the risk of gangrene. If ignored, the complications can lead to foot amputation.
From time to time keep checking your feet for sores and infections, especially between the toes. If you notice any ulcers, blisters, skin breakouts or redness happening, consult your doctor right away.
Test 4 – Blood Lipids/ Cholesterol Check
This test is all about lipid profile screening that should be done once a year. It checks your HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol) as well as triglyceride levels. Ideally, your LDL cholesterol should be less than 100. However, if you are a patient suffering from heart disease, your doctor may advise you a further lower LDL figure.
Test 5 – Kidney function
Make it a point to get an annual urine test done. This will check out the protein levels in your body. Also make sure to get a blood test done annually to check out the creatinine level. Both these tests help in analysing the performance of your kidneys.
Test 6 – Blood Pressure
From time to time, get your blood pressure checked. As a diabetic, the goal should be to get 125/75. In case you are a healthy individual without diabetes, your blood pressure should be less than 130/80.
Now that you have got a fair knowledge of the lab tests that need to be done in case you have diabetes, go ahead and get them done. Timely screening of diabetes is the first thing you need to go for.

You must meet with a counselor first and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor too. Please do so immediately. You must investigate if the origin of this problem is from childhood or of recent origins. If it is recent, you will be able to pin-point the episode. If not, talk to your parents and see if they remember any incidents from your childhood, even in prenatal life, of any contributing factors. The counselor will be able to help out with this information. You can follow these simple rules too: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love: find someone to love and to love you back, if you are not married already. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive everyday and learn to be contended with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly.

Follow your cardiologist's advise. And start appropriate drug therapy. In the meanwhile start working on losing at least 20 kg of extra weight by intensive lifestyle modification approach. To achieve weightloss - think long term. Weight loss achieved over short term, always comes back. There is a general approach and a specific approach as per individual patients metabolic profile. Try this general approach for 4 weeks. If this works then continue. If this is not enough then revert for further assessment and customised approach. With customised lifestyle modification approaches, people over 100-150 kg are also losing weight for long term. 1. Do not eat anything sugary or sweet. Zero sweetness in diet. 2. Eat plenty of salad in lunch and dinner along with other foods. 3. Do not drink any liquid calorie like cola or fruit juices. 4. Go for brisk walks or jogging for 45 minutes every day.

What Causes Acidity? PART- 2: Correcting Diet and Lifestyle + Treatments

Gastritis / acidity part -2

Simple ways to manage gastritis / acidity

Gastritis/ acidity is usually mild and can be cured easily by following better food habits and regular healthy lifestyle. However, sometime gastritis can cause pain in the upper part of the abdomen and may lead to stomach ulcers. Few over-the-counter (otc) antacid medicines and a set of do's and don'ts can relieve gastritis. Some of the lifestyle and dietary changes are as follows:

Lifestyle / dietary changes:

Excess spicy food and use of painkillers, alcohol, cigarettes and acidic beverages lead to symptoms of gastritis. To get rid of symptoms of gastritis, one should follow these simple remedies.

Small meals: eat food in smaller quantity and switch to several small meals.

Avoid painkillers: painkillers lead to ulcers in your stomach and cause bleeding. So, avoid unnecessary use of painkillers.

Yoga and physical exercise: kapalabhati, bhastrika and anulomaviloma yoga increases movement of body and organs, helpful in the treatment of gastritis.

Foods to be taken:

A healthy meal plan with low unhealthy fat, salt, and added sugar helps in relieving gastritis. Eat fruits, vegetables, whole grains and fat-free or low-fat dairy foods. Lean meats, poultry (chicken and turkey), fish, beans, eggs, and nuts are also advised to gastritis patients.

Fruits: fruits contain vitamins, minerals, fibers and antioxidants should be the part of the diet plan.

Rice gruel: rice gruel helps in the formation of watery gastric juice and reduces the acidity level within the stomach. Only rice that has been aged for one year must be used. Wheat and barley are beneficial.

Vegetables: garlic and onion limit the growth of bacteria. Carrot juice, spinach juice, pumpkin, bitter gourd (kaakarakaya), cucumber (dosakaya), and green banana are effective. Broccoli is effective against h. Pylori bacteria in the stomach lining.

Dairy products: the calcium and vitamin d in milk reduce the stomach acids and gives relief to the stomach but, it should be with low content fat.

Grains: whole wheat chapattis, pasta, noodles made from whole grains should be included in the diet. Refined flour (maida) products should be strictly avoided. Limit the consumption of whole grain chapattis to about 2 chapattis, per day.

Green coconut water: drink green coconut water, as it provides the stomach with the necessary rest, vitamins, and minerals which provide an excellent and easy remedy for gastritis.

Foods to be avoided:

Several foods produce a large amount of acid in your stomach leading to gastritis. You should avoid intake of such foodstuffs in your diet:

- salty and spicy foods.

- vinegar and vinegar based food items.

- aerated drinks, citrus juices, caffeine.

- high fat/cholesterol contained food items.

- beef, fried fish, and pork.

- baked products like cookies, cakes, chocolates.

Medical treatments

Medical therapies/ options:

Several allopathic medicines are used for the treatment of gastritis, but their prolonged use can lead to problems like weak bones, constipation, vomiting. Antibiotics are used to kill h. Pylori bacteria, which causes ulcers and gastritis in your digestive tract. Antacids normalize acid production by blocking the action of the parts of cells that produce acids. Ulcer healing agents protect the tissues that line your stomach and small intestine. Besides these, surgery is preferred in complicated cases of gastritis like pus or mucous filled infections in stomach and intestines.

Ayurvedic and herbal therapies:

In Ayurveda, gastritis is known as urdhavaga amalapitta. It is caused in people who have pitta dosha, which means disturbance in the digestion of food leading to indigestion. When the pitta dosha gets increased in such people, there are greater chances of getting gastritis. Ayurvedic preparations like dhaatriloha, sukumaraghrita, sootashekhara rasa, kaamadudha rasa, leela vilas rasa, chandrakala rasa, amalakichoorna, triphalachoornaand amalapittantaka rasa are beneficial in gastritis. If there is constipation along with gastritis, then avipattikarachoorna is taken as the medicine of choice.

Few herbs that are beneficial for gastritis patients are

Cardamom (ilaayachee): soothes the stomach. It is especially beneficial if the gastritis causes heartburn.

Fennel (sauph): is digestive, traditionally used by Indians. Fennel gives the soothing effect to the stomach, facilitates digestion, reduces flatulence and relieves the stomach of excess acidity.

Ginger (adrakh): it is effective in treating indigestion that is associated with gastritis. It is especially useful for people who consume more of a non-vegetarian food.

Amla: is very beneficial in the treatment of several stomach ailments including gastritis.

Sandalwood (chandan): helps in gastritis because it has cooling properties. It can soothe the stomach muscles inflamed by gastritis.

Asparagus: it's roots are effective in reducing the hyperacidity of the digestive system.

Licorice (mulethi) root powder: the root of the licorice soothes the injury of the stomach and also reduces the h pylori.

Hair is primarily made of protein and, therefore, it makes sense to eat a protein-rich diet if you’re trying to maintain your healthy hair. However, eating a steak every day isn’t going to help you. High-fat diets will result in increased testosterone levels, which has been linked to hair loss -- so steaks are not among the foods that prevent hair loss. Stick to leaner proteins such as fish (which has a myriad of health benefits beyond just maintaining your hair), chicken, calf’s liver, brewer’s yeast, low-fat cheese, eggs, almonds, beans, and yogurt. Soy milk and tofu are also smart to add to your diet because they are high in protein and low in bad fats.
