C-Section - Tips to Help You Recover From It

C-Section - Tips to Help You Recover From It

Delivering a baby is a painful, but also a pleasurable moment for the mother. But if the delivery is done through a C-section surgery or what is more commonly termed as Caesarean delivery, the pain is not felt during the actual delivery since the woman in under anaesthesia. However, the real challenge is to recover from the operation. The first week is particularly critical. Here are some things you can do to manage it with less discomfort:

  1. The first few hours, naturally, you will be under close observation till you fully regain conscience if it was a general anaesthesia. If only the lower portion was numbed for the surgery, then also the feelings in the legs etc. will return within a few hours.
  2. You will start breastfeeding you baby; wear comfortable clothes so that you can feed the baby without any discomfort. If this is the first experience, learn things that you need to know through books or from friends and relatives who would have had a C-section earlier.
  3. You may feel more comfortable in a recliner than a flat bed. Most hospitals should be able to provide you one.
  4. You might be better off with a heater pad of your own, since your back may be aching considerably and bringing down the pain is essential.
  5. Wearing a binder around your tummy is another suggestion given by many women who have had a C-section delivery; besides helping with easing the pain, it also prevents the tummy from bulging, which you would want to avoid.
  6. Follow the obstetrician’s advice on having a shower and also on resuming some of your physical activities without hurting the stitches or the sutures.
  7. By Day 3, you should be able to resume eating your normal diet; in many cases, it could be earlier than that.
  8. Do take care to avoid lifting anything heavy. The heaviest object you can lift is your baby. Make your husband or any other person to help you through this period to avoid any complications later.
  9. How about medicines? If you are already on any kind of medication and if you had stopped any of them due to the surgical procedure, check with the doctor and resume taking the medicines.
  10. Keep a close watch on the food you eat, particularly since you will also be nursing your baby. Don’t hesitate to consult the doctor on things you may be fond of, but have to avoid in order to protect the kid from being affected in any way.

Pregnancy and delivery are some of the happiest moments in any mother’s life; so remain cheerful throughout and enjoy the moments. If the delivery has been done through C-section, some of these extra precautions are to be observed to make it easy for yourself to recover fast. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

Panchkarma Therapies - How They Benefit You?

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian field of medicine that has been in existence since time immemorial. Many people swear by its efficacy and it is also a proper field of study for people who want to practice this form of medicine as doctors. Ayurveda makes use of a variety of herbs and lifestyle changes including diet, rest and massages in order to create a healthier body. Ayurveda combines Yogic postures with these herbs to create various kinds of treatment for varied conditions.

Panchakarma therapy is one of the kinds of Ayurvedic treatments that can greatly benefit the human body in many ways. This is basically made up of five therapies, which aim at removing the toxins from the body of the patient. One must take a proper consultation with a doctor in order to practice this therapy. Read on to know more about this form of treatment and its various benefits.

  1. Five therapies: As mentioned above, this therapy is made up of five therapies including Vamana, Raktamokshana, Nasya, Basti and Virechana. These therapies aim at freeing the body of the toxins that may accumulate and give rise to a variety of conditions and diseases in various organs of the body.
  2. Oils and diet: This therapy is carried out with the help of various medicated oils that help in eliminating the different toxins in one’s body. As per the tenets of Ayurveda, one also has to follow a specific diet and a systematic routine along with this therapy so that the Kapha toxins are removed from the body.
  3. Ailments and conditions: There are many kinds of conditions and ailments that can be cured and managed with the help of this therapy. Asthma and cervical spondylitis are some of the conditions. Here, the painful symptoms and attacks can be kept at a minimum because these have to do with the Kapha dosha, which is effectively treated when the Kapha toxins are flushed out of the body following this therapy. This treatment helps in cleansing the body with the help of the various oils and the five therapies that are used here.
  4. Aging process: The Panchakarma therapy helps in preventing the aging process and the signs of aging by replenishing the cells and the energy in the body. This helps in keeping the bones, skin and hair healthy as well, since the patient goes through regular bouts of massage in order to get the treatment.
  5. Stress: This treatment eliminates stress as it brings about a more calm state of mind. It does so by strengthening the body through the removal of immunity breaking toxins, which puts the hormones back in balance.

Benefits of Panchakarma Treatment:

The results of Panchakarma are very powerful and effective. Some of the benefits include:

  1. The doshas – vata, pitta and kapha, will return to their original places and function normally. Mind calms down, and intellect and concentration becomes sharp.
  2. It helps to attain a clear and glowing complexion.
  3. It helps to reverse the negative effects of daily living.
  4. It restores the natural state of health and wellness by bringing balance in the system and improving bodily function.
  5. A person undergoing Panchakarma attains longevity, intellect and freedom from diseases. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.

It is a difficult decision as twins are delivered near term provided you are doing well and the issue of preterm labour is carefully evaluated this may mean bedrest and medication for a long time after 24 weeks orso also state of the cervix is tobe checked by way of fetal reduction the procedure may be successful but the prediction of the second baby is always dicey if both are normal thedecision will depend on the factors mentioned.

I am 27. I had c-section delivery. My baby is 5 month old. Is it safe for him to consume green coffee during breastfeeding?

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Hi POOJA. You consuming green coffee or even regular coffee during breast feeding is safe for the baby and will not effect the baby. It is preferred for the baby to be on exclusive breast feeding till a minimum period of 6 months.

Dear sir/Madam my wife is 27 years old. She have both side fallopian tubes blocked. That will be the solution. Only IVF or ant other solution to unblock tubes. We have no children even ofter 3 years of married life.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
Hi I think you have already undergone hsg to know that both her tubes are blocked. Sometimes the contrast of the hsg itself pushes open the tubes. One can try to open the tubes by laproscopic procedures too. I suggest you try for 2-3 cycles and if still not successful you can opt for ivf. Don't lose hope. Lots of patients with both tubes blocked have been able to conceive without ivf. Hope this information helps you. All the best.

I took an ECP after an unprotected intercourse on 23rd July and then after a week followed bleeding for 6 days, exactly like my normal periods. But, I guess that it was withdrawal bleeding. My normal period should have started by around 11th July, but I haven't got it yet. What does this mean?

When you get your withdrawal bleeding you dont get your period at expected time. Now you should expect around 30/7 if you are getting regular monthly periods

I have pcod and had last period on 1 January 2017 so a week back started with Ayurvedic medicine (dashmolarisht, ashokarisht, rajahpravartani vati and string rasayan vati) from patanjali. Just took medicine for 7 days. Due to a small rupture in condom during intercourse should I take I-pill or just continue the Ayurvedic course and wait for medicine to show effects and get my periods.

Ayurveda Medicines takes a longer time to treat PCOS, so can't say whether they would be effective in inducing your periods, if you get pregnant. So we advise you to wait for your due date, post which if you miss your due date, you can do a Urine pregnancy test to confirm pregnancy and then take abortion pills if required. As taking ipill will not be useful and would unnecessarily interfere in your normal cycle by inducing a withdrawal bleeding.

My periods are not regular its comes after 1 week give solution to regular the period.
If they r coming just one week late you don't need any kind of treatment. Even if we treat it for 3 months it will come regular but after that same story. No need to test any hormones or ultrasound as it won't help at all. Your cycles r naturally designed like that.
