Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Your testosterone level is margnally low. There may not be any need for supplementation, unlees there are any specific symptoms. As regards hypothyroidism, if you are on Thyroxine 100 mcg and if it is well controlled TSH should be between 3 to 4 mU/L. If that is not achieved then most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism will be back. So it is essential to check TSH level after 6 to 8 weeks of treatment with thyroxine. If level has come to above mentioned, then continue the same dose. If not then dose needs to be increased. Thanks.

Psoriasis: Vulnerability to Health Conditions

Psoriasis: Vulnerability to Health Conditions

Psoriasis is the condition in which the infected skin cells multiply 10 times faster than the normal rate. During this disease, the normal skin tends to get covered by a layer of dead skin cells, not allowing the skin to breathe. People who suffer from psoriasis face an increased likelihood of contracting other serious medical conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and psoriatic arthritis.

Psoriasis can erupt just about anywhere on the body, but it most often occurs on the scalp, chest, back, elbows, knuckles, and knees. If you have a mild case, the patches may hardly be noticeable. The worst cases produce unsightly patches almost everywhere.

Psoriasis can also affect fingernails and toenails, making them appear pitted and discolored. It can even cause significant joint pain, a condition known as psoriatic arthritis.

Most people who develop psoriasis are initially diagnosed in their teens, twenties, or thirties. The disease follows a very unpredictable course. That first flare-up may also be the last. Or it may signal the start of a lifetime of flare-ups that come and go for no apparent reason. Fortunately, when the lesions disappear, they leave no scars.

Here's a list of following unsafe health conditions created by psoriasis:

  1. Cancer: People experiencing psoriasis are subjected to an increased risk of contracting certain cancers like lymphoma. A study discovered that people diagnosed with psoriasis have an increased likelihood of 40% to contract cancer than the general population. The reason for this particular risk hasn't been yet understood.
  2. Kidney disease: According to a 2013 study, published in the British Medical journal people with psoriasis have an increased risk of encountering kidney disorders. Severe and mild psoriasis increases the likelihood of kidney diseases by 58% and 36% respectively.
  3. Obesity: People suffering from mild psoriasis are 30% likelier to be obese than those who are not. For people diagnosed with severe psoriasis the chances increase by 80%.
  4. Diabetes and high cholesterol: High levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol and lipoprotein are present in patients with psoriasis, and these patients are 28% likelier to have high cholesterol compared to the general masses. According to a recent study, people with the condition have a 46% increased chance of suffering from Type 2 diabetes.
  5. Peptic ulcers and mood disorders: In some cases, peptic ulcers are also linked with psoriasis. The reason for this is attributed to inflammation. Psoriasis also leads to mood disorders like depression due to the pain and anxiety arising from the condition. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

I am 22 yrs female. Weighing 72 kg. I wanting to knw some tips for weight loss. Yoga. Exercise. Diet plan.

Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
I am 22 yrs female. Weighing 72 kg. I wanting to knw some tips for weight loss. Yoga. Exercise. Diet plan.
Hi, I am both a registered dietitian and a doctor who will help you in losing your weight as well as solve your other health problems through a dietary therapy. Let me know your food intake details. The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to weight loss on some diets can be dramatic in the short term, but there's more of a chance of rebound weight gain. Set yourself a realistic target and aim to lose between (0.5-1.0kg) a week I being a registered dietitian strongly accommodate the patients own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. Don't fall for self dieting or fad diets availiable online they have harmful effects in the long run, if you lose a lot of weight very quickly, you may not lose as much fat as you would with a more modest rate of weight loss. Instead, you might lose water weight or even lean muscle tissue, since it's hard to burn that many fat calories in a short period. I will need to carry out detailed assessment in your case, after assessing your personal challenges to weight loss, I will recommend a strategy to gradually change habits and attitudes that have sabotaged your past efforts. Also the overall objective should not be to drastically reduce weight but doing it gradually and help rebuild body tissues and to maintain ideal body weight. I being a both a registered dietitian (rd) and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. I will also suggest home remedies. Do reply back for private consultation for rx.

When the semen produced in the body is too much to hold in the testicles themselves, it is released voluntarily or involuntarily, as in wet dreams or night fall (during sleep). There is nothing to worry about as it is absolutely normal and natural. The body has to get rid of old semen in reserve to produce new semen. The homeostatis (automatic balance) of the body is responsible for regulating these functions involuntarily (without our conscious control). If you want to prevent this at all, then you can wash both your feet in cold water (down from the knees) and drink two glasses of water. Wet dreams will be reduced to some extent you will not actually lose anything when you release your semen during the night while sleeping. After attaining adolescence our bodies will change due to the increased synthesis of male hormones (in case of males) like testosterone. Testosterone is a steroidal hormone which is responsible for sperm production in the testicles and development of our secondary sexual characters. For nite fall medicenes are tentex forte tab 2 times a day and triphala churna and dhatupusti churna 2 times a day.

Varicocele affects the blood flow through your scrotum, and can interfere with blood flow to your sperm, being held in the sperm sac of the testicles, which are held within the scrotum. The scrotum ‘sac’ contains blood vessels and veins that deliver this blood to the reproductive glands. A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum. These veins are called the pampiniform plexus. Often, someone suffering from this issue will have swollen scrotum. Homeopathy works very well for mild to moderate cases of varicocele. Numerous infertility cases have been treated successfully with medicines and they have been reported in homeopathic medical journals. The actions of homeopathy medicines are as follows: 1.They work at relieving stagnation of blood and help in its recirculation by improving the elasticity of the vein walls. 2.They help to reduce pain, control further varicosity, reduces swelling thus decreasing the temperature of the testicles resulting in a better sperm count. Homeopathic medicines should preferably be taken in the beginning of varicocele problem itself because the more one delays the appropriate treatment, the more chronic the problem gets. you can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance

Dear lybrate user, you may be suffering from a clinical condition called phimosis. The most conventional method to get rid of it is surgery. However, if you are unwilling to undergo surgery then you can try the following process at home. 1) buy betamethasone cream from local allopathic shop. During buying you should check the composition of the cream to confirm whether it contains 0.05% betamethasone in it. If you cannot find 0.05% betamethasone cream then you can buy any local anaesthetic gel (e. G. Lidocaine, lignocaine, xylocaine) from allopathic retail shop. 2) apply a little amount of that anaesthetic gel at the lower part of the prepuce of penis where the foreskin remains attached. 3) after application of the gel, retract the foreskin backwards as far as you can. Due to the anaesthetic property of the gel you will be able to retract the foreskin backwards to some extent more than you can do in normal condition. 4) release the foreskin when you feel pain 5) again repeat the same process. Do it continuously for at least 30 minutes in a day. Within a month you will feel that your foreskin has become loose.
