I have a eye no last 4 years my eyes no is -2.50 in both eye so how to remove eye no and recover my eye brightness.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello lybrate-user. To remove your eye no you could opt for refractive lasik surgery. Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery (lasik). There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist.

I am suffering from myopia and power of the lens is increasing on a regular rate. What can I do to stop increase the power of my lens and decrease it also.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello lybrate-user. Sorry about your eye trouble. Myopia is a condition characterized by short sightedness. It means that the person has lesser ability to see objects placed at a distance. This condition is governed by certain genetic and hereditary factors. There are other dietary and postural factors as well that govern the progress of myopia. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the maintenance of healthy eyes: let me enumerate the diet necessary for healthy eyes. (1) green leafy vegetables including spinach, sprouts, cabbage, beetroot. (2) fruits-blue-berries, black-berries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, grapes, pineapple, pomegranate, grapes, guava. (3) dry-fruits: almonds, walnuts, apricots, dates. (4) cereals: oats, barley, millets. (5) drink a cup of green tea daily. (6) drink a glass of milk daily. To decrease the power of the lens, you could consider refractive surgery. Age 47 female having swelling in eyes for months. Eye doctor have medicine after stopping medicine again scales and swelling of upper part of eye had taken place. What to do had blepharitis before.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello lybrate-user. Sorry about your trouble. Proper eye hygiene is the key for you. In addition to the medication given to you, keep your eyes clean by washing daily 4 to 5 times with clean hands and clean water. Wash gently. Do not rub your eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth material, etc. In case you need to wipe your eyes, use disposable paper napkin (if possible). Also, another suggestion is regarding hot water fomentation. Use a sterile cotton and dip it into lukewarm water and gently massage your eyes. Do this 2 times in a day if possible. Another suggestion-while bathing, use johnson baby shampoo to apply on your eyelids and allow it to remain there for 2 minutes. After, this wash it off. This will result in debulking of debris that has accumulated throughout the night. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you.

I have red eyes when I ride bike with open eyes and eye tear drop frequently. What can I do and what presumption I take?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Eyes water because , while driving the rate at which the eye dries up increases , hence of rate of secretion of tears also goes up. since we are not driving at a constant speed there is a mismatch between the tear secretion and eyes drying up . our body always tries to over perform. this over secreted tears is too much to handle by the normal tear route from the eyes to the nose. hence the excess tears overflow leading to watering. So it is a normal process.Dont worry about this.Your eyes are normal. But wear goggles while driving

Hello, Bloodshot eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: Eye dryness Too much sun exposure Dust or other particles in the eye Allergies Infection Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. Other causes of eye redness include Colds or allergies, Acute glaucoma, Corneal scratches: Injuries caused by sand, dust, or overuse of contact lenses. Sometimes, a bright red spot, called a subconjunctival hemorrhage, will appear on the white of the eye. This often happens after straining or coughing, which causes a broken blood vessel on the surface of the eye. Most often, there is no pain and your vision is normal. It is almost never a serious problem. Because the blood leaks into the conjunctiva, which is clear, you cannot wipe or rinse the blood away. Like a bruise, the red spot will go away within a week or two. Management: - Try to rest your eyes if redness is due to fatigue or eye strain. No other treatment is needed. - Wash your hands, hold clean water in your hand, keep your eyes closer to the water and dip the eyes by blinking the eyelids frequently in the held water in hand. Repeat it for 3-4 times again. - Avoid watching T. V. Working on computer or mobile, reading or frequently keep blinking your eyes to avoid dryness. Take frequent breaks in between. - In case there is itching, use a clean napkin or a tissue to wipe the tears and cleaning the eyelids gently. -Wear an UV-rays protected sunglasses while you are out in sun. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe’s Belladonna 30 and Euphrasia 30 - both thrice daily for 4 days. Use Euphrasia Eye drops twice daily. Revert back thereafter.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello. There is no medication or food for improving eye sight or to get rid of glasses. Get your vision tested and wear glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 18 years so your number will not increase much now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik after age of 18 yrs.
