Atopic Dermatitis - Signs & Symptoms You Must Not Ignore!

Atopic dermatitis or eczema is a chronic skin condition that causes inflammation and itchiness. Though more common amongst children, it can occur at any age. It is quite often accompanied with hay fever or asthma.

It might be caused by a reaction to food allergies. It might also be a result of a number of environmental factors like allergens and irritants (pollen grains, dust mites, pet dander). A family or personal medical history of asthma or hay fever or allergies can increase the risk of atopic dermatitis.

Symptoms-
Atopic dermatitis presents itself with a number of different symptoms. These include-

  1. Sever itching along with dry skin
  2. Skin patches which are red or brownish-gray in color may be found in different parts of the body which includes feet, hands, wrists, elbows, and knees. Infants might have these patches on their scalp and face as well.
  3. Pus-filled bumps with a crust on top.
  4. Scaly, thickened patches of skin.

The symptoms usually first appear around the 5th year of a child but it can persist throughout adolescence. Seek medical attention if you notice any of the above symptoms or if the condition begins to interfere with your sleeping patterns and daily routine.

Possible Complications-
Atopic dermatitis can progress to a number of different complications which includes-

  1. Neurodermatitis- A chronic skin condition that starts with you scratching a patch of an affected area and then the inflammation increases. The skin over time becomes thick, leathery and discolored.
  2. Infections- The repeated itching and scratching cause the skin to become susceptible to open sores. This increases the risks of microbial infections.

Role of Homeopathy in the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis-
Homeopathy aims to both reduce the severity of the condition and minimize the frequency at which it recurs. A practitioner of homeopathy will consider a number of different factors before he prescribes you any medication. For example, the site and type of eruption, the environmental factors that either relieve or worsen the condition, sensitivity to seasonal changes. The practitioner will then prescribe remedies that are aimed towards your individual symptoms. These remedies enhance immunity and help eradicate the condition from its roots.

Remedies that include components like Sulphur, Petroleum, Arsenicum are usually orally administered. The treatment plan might vary over the years according to the severity of the condition at that point in time.

My friend is felt drowsiness in the morning, she has low blood pressure conditions sometimes. Is this feeling of drowsiness is because of low bp? How can we take care of it?

MBBS, MD, DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Indore
Yes low bp can be one of the cause for drowsiness. FOR LOW B.P - 1. Eat a diet higher in salt. 2. To avoid problems with low blood pressure and lessen episodes of dizziness after meals, try eating smaller, more frequent meals. Cut back on carbohydrates. Rest after eating 3. Limit alcoholic beverages, Drink more fluids during hot weather and while sick with a viral illness, such as a cold or the flu. 4. Avoid heavy lifting. 5. Avoid prolonged exposure to hot water, such as hot showers and spas. If you get dizzy, sit down. 6. Get regular exercise to promote blood flow. 7. Be careful when rising from lying down or sitting. To help improve circulation, pump your feet and ankles a few times before standing up. Then proceed slowly. When getting out of bed, sit upright on the edge of the bed for a few minutes before standing. 8. Elevate the head of your bed at night by placing bricks or blocks under the head of bed. 9. Avoid straining while on the toilet. 10. Avoid standing still in place for long periods of time. For homeopathic medicine. Contact us.

The Top 5 Heart Disease Facts

DNB Cardiology, DNB MEDICINE, MBBS
Cardiologist, Ghaziabad

Heart disease- it’s the no. 1 cause of death for both men and women, so you should know all the facts about heart disease. Developing heart disease may be concerning to you, but understanding heart disease facts can help, especially if you're not 100 percent sure about what goes into having a healthy heart.

Here’s a list of the top 5 facts about heart disease you may or may not know.

Heart disease fact 1: it is not one disease. One of the heart disease facts is that cardiovascular disease is actually a group of diseases. But all of the types of heart disease affect your heart and blood vessels. Many of them are related to atherosclerosis, which develops when a substance called plaque builds up in the walls of your arteries. This is also referred to as a hardening of the arteries.

Heart disease fact 2: there are 8 common types
If you have heart disease it could mean you have any one of the following types.
1. Coronary artery disease: your heart's major blood vessels are damaged
2. High blood pressure: the force of the blood against your artery walls is too high
3. Cardiac arrest: you suddenly lose heart function, breathing and consciousness
4. Congestive heart failure: a chronic condition; your heart doesn't pump blood as well as it should
5. Arrhythmia: an irregular heartbeat, either too fast or too slow
6. Peripheral artery disease: narrowed blood vessels reduce blood flow to your limbs
7. Stroke: your brain is damaged from an interruption of its blood supply
8. Congenital heart disease: an abnormality in your heart that develops before birth.

Heart disease fact 3: biggest risk factors
The two most commonly mentioned risk factors for heart disease are obesity and smoking. High blood pressure and high ldl cholesterol, also are key heart disease risk factors.
Several other medical conditions and lifestyle choices can also put you at a higher risk for heart disease, including diabetes, poor diet, physical inactivity and excessive alcohol use.
You can control most of these risk factors.

Heart disease fact 4: most common symptoms
Your symptoms will vary depending on the type of heart disease you have. For many people, chest discomfort is one of the first signs. It may first show up during routine daily activities and then go away. Women may even experience it while they’re sleeping or resting. You also could develop swollen feet or ankles or palpitations.
If you’re having a heart attack you may experience some or all of these symptoms:

  • Chest pain or discomfort that doesn’t go away after a few minutes
  • Pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck or back
  • Weakness, light-headedness, nausea
  • Pain or discomfort in the arms or shoulder
  • Shortness of breath

Heart disease fact 5: it does not discriminates:

  • Of all the heart disease facts that we’ve hi mentioned so far, this one is the most concerning. Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. It also is the leading cause of death for people of most ethnicities.
  • Another fact about heart disease to note is that men accounted for more than half of the heart disease-related deaths.

Erectile Dysfunction

Sexologist Clinic
Sexologist, Faridabad
Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED), also known as impotence, is a type of sexual dysfunction characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual activity. Erectile dysfunction can have psychological consequences as it can be tied to relationship difficulties and self-image.

The most important organic causes of impotence are cardiovascular disease and diabetes, neurological problems (for example, trauma from prostatectomy surgery), hormonal insufficiencies (hypogonadism) and drug side effects. Psychological impotence is where erection or penetration fails due to thoughts or feelings (psychological reasons) rather than physical impossibility; this is somewhat less frequent but can often be helped. In psychological impotence, there is a strong response to placebo treatment.

Besides treating the underlying causes such as potassium deficiency or arsenic contamination of drinking water, the first line treatment of erectile dysfunction consists of a trial of PDE5 inhibitor (such as sildenafil). In some cases, treatment can involve prostaglandin tablets in the urethra, injections into the penis, a penile prosthesis, a penis pump or vascular reconstructive surgery.

Ten Killer Facts About Sudden Cardiac Arrest

DNB Cardiology, DNB MEDICINE, MBBS
Cardiologist, Ghaziabad

Sudden cardiac arrest (sca) is a condition where the heart suddenly stops beating. Without the heartbeat to pump it, oxygenated blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs. If it is not treated within minutes, sca typically causes death. However, cpr can double, or even triple, a victim’s chances of survival if it is administered properly. Here’s a list of facts about sudden cardiac arrest and what you can do to help save lives.
1. Sudden cardiac arrest (sca) is a leading cause of death in the united states.
2. An estimated 382, 800 people experience sudden cardiac arrest in the united states each year.
3. Approximately 92% of those who experience sudden cardiac arrest do not survive.
4. Sca kills more than 1, 000 people a day, or one person every 90 seconds, than the number of deaths each year from breast cancer, lung cancer, stroke or aids.
5. Cardiovascular disease attributable to sca, where the heart abruptly and unexpectedly ceases to beat so that no blood can be pumped to the rest of the body.
6. The most common cause of sca is a heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia) called ventricular fibrillation (vf). Vf is an “electrical problem” in the heart. Without immediate emergency help, death follows within minutes of an episode of ventricular fibrillation.
7. Sca most often occurs in patients with heart disease, especially those who have congestive heart failure and have had a heart attack.
8. It is estimated that 95 percent of victims who experience sca die before they reach a hospital or some other source of emergency help.
9. As many as 75 percent of people who die of sca show signs of a previous heart attack. Eighty percent have signs of coronary artery disease.
10. Sca is not a random event. Although it may occur in outwardly healthy people, most victims do have heart disease or other health problems, often without being aware of it.

Most victims of sudden cardiac arrest die because they are not able to get immediate medical help. However, cpr can keep oxygen-rich blood pumping through the body until emergency medical help can arrive. Cpr training is something that anyone can learn and that everyone should learn. While it would be nice to be able to save the life of a stranger, statistics show that the life you save will most likely be that of a loved one.
