The type of treatment you have for toothache /sensitivity/swelling will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling is caused by a loose or broken filling, the filling will be taken out, any decay will be removed and a new filling put in place. •If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling can't be treated using these methods, or if your tooth is impacted (wedged between another tooth and your jaw), it may need to be removed.

Hi bleeding is the indication of gum disease known as gingivitis. It happens due to plaque and tarter deposition between gums and teeth. Go for cleaning and bleaching. Rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash. Brush regularly two times daily.

All individuals requires scaling (cleaning) to be done atleast once in 6 months to maintain our oral hygiene clean. Our toothbrush is not much finely designed to clean all the plaque and calculi in the interdental areas of the teeth, which is the area where most of the calculus accumulate much and has to be removed regularly using scalers by the dentist. So pls do visit a dentist for scaling.

The best way to avoid dentist appointment is better brush your teeth twice daily with correct method of brushing, and before going to bed it's mandatory.
Second thing you can do is go to dentist for saying him/her hello and get your teeth clinically examined at least twice in a year.
The above tips are time tested and reliable.
If you can do that much, you are sure to stay out of that dental chair majority of times.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user why you using all these three mouth rinses. Stop using all these three together. Use one at time and only two to thee times after diluting it with water not as a raw. These swelling and redness is due to all this.

Tooth Decay - 6 Ways Ayurveda Can Help!

Tooth Decay - 6 Ways Ayurveda Can Help!

The most common problem affecting the mouth is caries which happens as a result of bacteria acting on the food deposits on the teeth, which produces acid that attacks the tooth structure. The result is loss of tooth structure and formation of pits and cavities which allows more food deposits and causes more decay.

Decay development depends on a number of factors including heredity, tooth structure, oral hygiene habits, food habits, etc. There are certain simple things that can be done at home which can delay the onset of the decay and also reduce its progression and severity.

If that sounds interesting, read on to know more.

  1. Clove and sesame oil: Clove oil is known for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antibacterial properties. A few drops of clove oil mixed with half teaspoon of sesame oil can be dabbed on the affected tooth with a cotton ball. This can be repeated every night, both for relief as well as for preventing further decay spread. Alternately, a whole clove can be chewed for some time and then placed under the tongue for continued relief.
  2. Salt: Known for its antiseptic and antibacterial properties, use a rinse made with salt and warm water and swish around the affected tooth at least 3 times a day. Alternately, make a paste of salt and lemon juice and apply on the affected tooth.
  3. Garlic: A paste with about 4 cloves of garlic and rock salt applied on the affected tooth provides great relief. Raw garlic can be eaten regularly for multiple benefits, including prevention from tooth decay. Rubbing raw garlic on the affected tooth also provides temporary relief from pain.
  4. Neem: Still used as a toothbrush by many rural people, chewing on a tender neem bark yields powerful oils and compounds that help keep the teeth against bacterial attack. The high fiber content is also effective against reducing plaque formation.
  5. Swishing with oils: Sesame, coconut or sunflower oil can be used for this purpose. On an empty stomach in the morning, use a tablespoon of one of these oils to swish for about 10 minutes, take care not to swallow it. This should be done before brushing the teeth. This helps reduce gum disease, bad breath and reduce cavities.
  6. Mustard oil: Two teaspoons each of mustard oil and rock salt can be mixed and applied to the tooth regularly for relief from dental decay pain.

The next time you have a tooth ache, it is not always necessary to rush to the dentist. Try these home remedies to get some relief, which will give you time to go to the dentist.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

My teeth are becoming yellow these days. Severely. So how come I can solve the problem. Which paste I have to prescribe.
Cause of discoloration ? Smoking, coffee, tea, drugs, aging, staining food (wine, blueberry, etc) genetics. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with whitening (bleaching) procedures and / or artificial enamel filling and / or capping. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use Snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply SNOWDENT paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min .Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results. DENTAL TIPS: - Visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

General Physician,
I am 17 years old and have a frustrating problem of canker sores from 2-3 years! I get frequent canker sores once in ...
Most canker sores clear on their own in one to two weeks. Treatments, if required, include mouth rinses, pastes and medication. Simple canker sores. These may appear three or four times a year and last up to a week. They typically occur in people ages 10 to 20. Complex canker sores. These are less common and occur more often in people who have previously had them. What Causes Canker Sores? The exact cause of most canker sores is unknown. Stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple canker sores. Certain foods -- including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes, and strawberries) -- can trigger a canker sore or make the problem worse. Sometimes a sharp tooth surface or dental appliance, such as braces or ill-fitting dentures, might also trigger canker sores. Although cold sores and canker sores are often confused with each other, they are not the same. Cold sores, also called fever blisters or herpes simplex type 1, are groups of painful, fluid-filled blisters. Unlike canker sores, cold sores are caused by a virus and are extremely contagious. Also, cold sores typically appear outside the mouth -- usually under the nose, around the lips, or under the chin -- while canker sores occur inside the mouth. You have to check up if you have viral disease.

For how much time bridge replacement for 3 teeth last (the cheaper ones around 1500 per teeth).

MFDS RCPS (Glasgow), MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
For how much time bridge replacement for 3 teeth last (the cheaper ones around 1500 per teeth).
Hi lybrate-user How long a bridge lasts depends upon what sort of a bridge it is, and how it is used and maintained. The most frequent cause of bridges failing are 1. Ceramic chipping off the metal coping in case of metal-ceramic bridges. This might happen after several years, but may happen earlier if your diet includes lot of tough, chewy, sticky foods, or, if you have a habit of grinding your teeth. 2. Decay or gum disease affecting the adjacent supporting teeth of the bridge necessitating additional treatment of those teeth, possibly extraction, and replacement of a new bridge, possibly involving more teeth than the original one. This happens usually due to poor home care, failure to maintain regular dental check ups, but the very nature of the bridge also might make it more difficult to keep the area clean, predisposing to food lodgement and damage. Generally, given good home care, regular dental check ups, a bridge should last 10 to 15 years.
