Can I have a glass of milk after my workout instead of protein supplements because I have heard that protein supplements are dangerous if used for long term.

If you have to gain weight you can have milk, as milk has fats & carbs along with protein. You don't need protein supplements either, if you want to lose fat. Take natural protein foods like legume sprouts, nuts and seeds, along with lots of veggies.

Other test that might help you like Lipid Profile and Angiography. Nowadays non invasive methods are there to check blockages, you can ask for that if you are not interested in Angiography.

Hello doctor, I am going to use SHELCAL-HD tablets to get a good amount of calcium and vitamin D3 to make my body a bit strong than it is. I want to know that is it going to cause any kind of side effect on my body/kidney. Please doctor guide me for this medicine.

Any calcium tablet should be taken intermittently. That means have it for a month then leave it for a month then again have it for a month.

Hi Lybrate user. Do not take tea in the morning, it is not good for health. 1) eat ½ tsf of AJOVA SEEDS along with ½ tsf of jaggery, before and after meals 2) eat 30-40 black currants during meals. Do all these things for 7 days it gives you excellent result THANKS.

Conducted a full body test and found I am deficient of iron, vitamin D and B12. Should I consult a GP or Nutritionist? Also, should I take supplements. I already on biotin, finasteride (hair loss)

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
Conducted a full body test and found I am deficient of iron, vitamin D and B12. Should I consult a GP or Nutritionist...
Animal proteins provide you with an easily absorbed form of iron called heme iron. According to the Office of Dietary Supplements, liver, beef, turkey, chicken and pork supply you with heme iron. Women under the age of 50 need at least 18 milligrams of iron daily, while all other adults need at least 8 milligrams of iron per day. Eating more of these iron-rich proteins may help boost your iron levels. Vegetables and Beans If you prefer not to eat meat, some vegetarian proteins contain a form of iron, called non-heme iron. Absorption of non-heme iron is enhanced when it's consumed with vitamin C or a source of heme iron, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. Including more soybeans, lentils, kidney beans, lima beans, navy beans, black beans and pinto beans in your diet helps you get more non-heme iron. Eating leafy greens, such as spinach and kale, boosts your iron intake as well. Seafood Vitamin D is found naturally in very few foods. The best dietary sources of the vitamin are fatty fish, including cod liver oil, swordfish, salmon, tuna fish and sardines. Oysters, tuna fish, crab, shrimp and halibut supply you with iron as well. Adults under 70 years old need at least 600 international units of vitamin D daily to maintain health. If you're over 70 years old, you'll need an additional 200 international units of vitamin D per day. Including seafood regularly in your diet can help you boost vitamin D levels. Fortified Foods In addition to the naturally occurring sources of iron and vitamin D, certain foods are fortified with the nutrients. According to the U. S. Food and Drug Administration, this means the nutrients are added in standard amounts during food processing to improve the nutritional quality of the food. Including more iron-fortified breakfast cereals, oatmeal and bread helps you meet your need for iron, while orange juice, milk, yogurt, cheese and some breakfast cereals contain added vitamin D. Check the food label to see if vitamin D or iron were added. Vitamin B-12, or Cobalamin, is the largest and most complex vitamin currently known to man. A slight deficiency of vitamin B-12 can lead to anemia, fatigue, mania, and depression, while a long term deficiency can cause permanent damage to the brain and central nervous system. Vitamin B12 can only be manufactured by bacteria and can only be found naturally in animal products, however, synthetic forms are widely available and added to many foods like cereals. Vitamin B12 can be consumed in large doses because excess is excreted by the body or stored in the liver for use when supplies are scarce. Stores of B12 can last for up to a year. Below are the top 10 foods highest in vitamin B12 by common serving sizes, click here for high vitamin B12 foods by nutrient density, here for an extended list of vitamin B12 rich foods, and here for other foods high in vitamin B. Dhat Syndrome: Loss of Calcium in Urine

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Srinagar
Dhat Syndrome: Loss of Calcium in Urine

Many persons report to doctors complaining about weakness, backache, loss of energy and other vague symptoms attributing these all to the loss of calcium and sometime semen with urine. How do they get to this conclusion? They may have noticed ‘white discharge (particularly in morning sample) in urine, they leak few drops of white discharge while talking to women (talking over phone included) or thinking about them, their neighborhood ‘test wala’ (lab technician) report their urine containing a few calcium carbonate crystals (anyways its almost always same test wala or ‘medical wala’ (medical store owner) who orders their urinalysis in first instance), they suffer (as per them) from frequent night emissions associated with wet dreams or without wet dreams and so on (list is exhaustive).
This is precipitated and perpetuated by commonly held belief about extreme preciousness of semen in sub-continental cultures including ours. This is based on an old hindu belief that it takes forty drops of blood to create a drop of bone marrow and forty drops of bone marrow to create a drop of sperm (wikipedia). These persons usually spend good amount of resources for treatment of ‘calcium or semen loss’ without much success.
This is actually a neuro-asthenic syndrome first described by professor (dr) narendra wig as ‘dhat syndrome’.
Females also suffer from an equivalent syndrome characterized by excessive vaginal discharge or leucorrhea, which is again considered a" precicious fluid.
Reassurance and proper education is the mainstay of treatment. Many times counseling, anti-anxiety and anti-depressant medications are needed.
