Ask your friend to take essential rest for better healing of his condition. Avoid overusing knee, stop climbing stairs, sports activities etc in case it is aggravating his knee pain. Ice will reduce pain and swelling. Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling. Apply the ice or cold pack for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 or more times a day. Elevate the injured or sore area on pillows while applying ice and anytime you are sitting or lying down. Try to keep the area at or above the level of your heart to help minimize swelling. Compression, or wrapping the injured or sore area with an elastic bandage, will help decrease swelling. Don't wrap it too tightly, since this can cause more swelling below the affected area. Loosen the bandage if it gets too tight. It’s important to find the cause behind the pain and swelling. Please consult a Physiotherapist.

My mother aged 52 is weight 90 kg, she constantly have knee pain and took injections for that. Her condition. Is that she cannot walk continuously and cannot stand long. She is taking medicines for knee pain sometimes. Bt. It's not helping her out. She is also tried to loose her weight but as she is aged also its seems her to difficult to do so. So can you tell me some diet chart that will help her or any specific ointment that will help her to relieve her pain.

Madam sorry to say due to body weight all the problems may be menopausal arthritis may be operation of uterus the knee pain started I do not know exactly knee replacement possible it can say only Orthopaedic Arthroscopic Doctor ok you can take physiotherapy by IFT pain will be reduced 50% may be better use nice quality knee brace and by someone do hamstring stretching ok use choamote no sit on floor.

Knee Pain: As arthritis is very common that you get generally bilaterally. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. You can take Ultrasonic therapy in one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics which would help to heal the damaged cartilages along with shortwave diathermy which would help to improve the blood circulation. Simple Knee Exercises Specific knee exercises will also help ie. Keeping ball underneath the knee and keep pressing it. That's the simple exercise which will help you to strengthen the knee Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation. We also advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone.
