I am 39 years old patient of schizoaffective bipolar disorder on medication for last 15 years. And now I have reduced renal activity like urinating only once during daytime. I have sideeffects of bipolardisorder medication like laziness throughout the day, excessive salivation, weightgain and lowmood. I belong to a military family with severe socio-economic issues. Please help.

You have been pumping your system with medication for so many years that that low level of urination is not at all healthy. Please increase the consumption of water to at least 2 liters every day. This will flush out all the toxins from synthetic medicines and cleanse your system regularly. Whether you like or not and even if it seems impossible, you must go for vigorous exercise every day. It is your life and it is up to you to put in all this effort. I do not know what kind of support you have at home but a lot will depend on your motivation. I know that that will be very low but you cannot be passive and expect any results. There are some neurological exercises that will help too. Now this is my biggest concern: have you been in therapy along with the medication? I am sure not. Get into counseling as quickly as you can, whatever your economic condition. You must seek this type of help for any improvement. It will also support the effects of medication. You must exercise vigorously, sleep only during the night, and eat a healthy diet of fiber like whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. At all times you must be responsible, be respectful and be functional. These three are cardinal rules to adhere to that will make some effective changes in your life.

I am suffering from stress and can't cope up with daily routine. Need some help. I get irritated on small matters.
The stress that you feel is not dependent on the stressor: It is entirely dependent on your perception of stress. Change your perception, there is no stress: it?s like looking at a glass half full or half empty. Life is difficult no doubt, as a general rule, but what we do adds to the stress in our response. We add to the stress of life instead of reducing it or learning to deal with it. Many of us follow a policy of avoidance, like your question seeks. We cannot do that all of our lives. So the first thing to do is to change your perception. For example, look at it as a challenge that you would like to meet with a positive outlook. See everything as a gift from God to perform as though you are doing it for Him. God never gives us work to do beyond our capacity. Now you may argue that it is the Government that is giving all the work. That is true in the overt sense, but if you look at it with spiritual eyes, you know that it is ultimately given by God. Secondly, build a good constitution mentally, emotionally and physically to combat stress. Eat healthily, sleep well, and exercise regularly. Talk about your emotions regularly to a good friend every day. Learn stress management techniques, which is all about expressing your feelings in appropriate ways. Do Yoga and meditation. Pray every day to God to give you the strength, and offer your work as a prayer to Him ? you will give your best and you will feel so satisfied when you do it well. At work you must learn to delegate much or some of your work to subordinates. If you do not trust, you will find it difficult to delegate. You must also explore the possibility whether you get irritated (another word for anger) when you are actually scared! In tha case people and you will focus on the worng feeling (anger) when in fact you shuld be dealing with the fear. When far is not dealt with it will pile up in your system and continue to bother you long after the incident and leave you more frustrated. Solution: reach out from the fear and when you sort that out, anger will not be required!

Hello, I can understand the problem you are facing. Schizophrenia have family loading. You have to understand what she is doing is because of the illness. She has no touch with the reality and once she will improve these symptoms will go away. Medications are not magic pills and it usually take some time to control symptoms. Being patient here for few days is the key. Fluanxol is a long acting injections. This injection will take care of her symptoms even when she don't take her medication. If she is difficult to manage at home get her admitted. Please note- Take full course of each medication at adequate dosage as suggested before changing to other drug.

Dear user, Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and Continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

Avoid junk, high sugar, caffeine, alcohol etc. Eat fresh healthy food like seasonal fruits and veggies, lean meats, eggs, whole grains, nuts, pulses to fill you up. Exercise regularly and sleep on time to get enough sleep. Relax in between to take your mind off the studies. Focus on what you are good at and learn it well. Time yourself and practice staying within the word limits. There are many ways to study smart rather than putting in more effort and time. Contact me privately if you are interested.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Nicotine and other chemicals can cause cancer of different types and areas. Throat cancer, mouth cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer and brain problems can result. Over and above smoking may also increase the risk factor of heart attack and brain stroke. Please quit smoking. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you’re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse—no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Mind power building therapy, motivation therapy etc should help you doing so. I suggest you to consult a psychologist or de addiction therapist. Take care.
