Backflow of stomach content in the food pipe causes irritation which results in a long lasting digestive disease known as Gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD). The most common symptoms of this disease are Heartburn, chest pain, difficulty in swallowing, dry cough, acid reflux and sore throat. Consumption of fatty foods, coffee, peppermint, chocolate and alcohol can result in this condition.
