Fluid retention is an excessive buildup of fluid in the circulatory system, body tissues or cavities in the body. The following factors may cause fluid retention including cancer (kidney, liver, ovarian), certain chemotherapy, low levels of protein in blood, inactivity which can cause fluid to collect in legs and feet and certain medications (corticosteroids, hormone replacement medications, blood pressure drugs, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Maintaining a healthy diet, reducing salt intake and exercising regularly can reduce the risk of developing this condition.
HOW IS FLUID RETENTION DIAGNOSED?
Fluid retention can increase blood pressure to a large extent.
