Hypertension is a common problem that has been affecting a lot of people today. Uncontrolled hypertension leads to many complications like heart problems, heart attack and stroke.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help in keeping blood pressure levels under control. This includes daily physical activity of 30 minutes and eating a healthy diet. For a better management of blood pressure levels, you can also add some herbal remedies that can be beneficial in controlling high blood pressure. Some of these remedies are:

1. Ginger & Cardamom: These spices are commonly found and used at home. Do you know that they can help in reducing the blood pressure levels? Yes, these spices are known to have some warm properties and can improve blood pressure.

2. Watermelon:  Most people love watermelon but may not be aware that it can also lower the blood pressure levels. It contains citrulline which gets converted to L-arginine. L- arginine is a precursor to nitric oxide, which is known to relax the blood vessels, this helps in decreasing the blood pressure.

3. Lemon: Lemon contains vitamin C which helps in lowering blood pressure. It is also rich in antioxidants and helps in softening the blood vessels thus, increasing the blood flow. It also reduces the risk of cardiac problems.

4. Garlic: A commonly used spice to season the food. Other than adding flavour to your food, it can also lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It helps in dilating the blood, making it thinner and also prevents any obstruction of arteries in blood flow, resulting in smooth blood flow.

5. Onion: Onion contains flavonol called quercetin that is clinically proven to reduce blood pressure and hypertension. It prevents thickening of blood, which reduces the risk of blocked arteries.

6. Amla: Amla is being used traditionally for years in Ayurveda as a cure for many diseases including hypertension. There are many clinical studies that show daily consumption of amla can be helpful in lowering blood pressure. It is a rich source of vitamin C that helps in reducing the blood cholesterol levels.

7. Green tea: Green tea is the best known source of antioxidant. It helps in decreasing stress levels which is one of the main causes of high blood pressure.

You can always include these home remedies in your daily diet, as they are easily available and can help in lowering the blood pressure. But at the same time you should also continue with your medicines as prescribed by the doctor.
