Heavy bleeding or menorrhagia is a condition that is characterized by an abnormally heavy or prolonged bleeding that requires a woman to change her sanitary pads every one to two hours during her menstruation cycle. You can also manage the condition with several home remedies, such as,  

Cold compress

This age-old traditional method can provide you some relief from heavy blood flow as well as from period cramps by constricting your blood vessels due to the low temperature.

  • To apply this method, put some ice in a thin towel and after securing it with a band or a knot. Apply it on your abdomen and leave it there for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Try to relax after lying down for a while.

Heavy bleeding can be caused in many women due to several reasons. In some women it can be due to genetics, or hormonal imbalance such as decreased progesterone, elevated estrogen levels or imbalance in thyroid hormones, the inability to form blood clots, or presence of fibroids or any tissue growth in the uterus, polyps in cervix region.
