What are the Signs and Symptoms of Nervous Breakdown?

What are the Signs and Symptoms of Nervous Breakdown?

Nervous Breakdown is not a medical term. It is connected to health problems associated with depression and anxiety. It often results from extreme stress and need medical help to overcome it. Although there are physical and emotional symptoms of this state of being, people often miss it. Here is a list of some common signs and symptoms related to nervous breakdown:

  1. It is hard to concentrate: It is often seen that a person finds it hard to concentrate when he is on the verge of mental breakdown. While a little stress helps in better functioning of the memory, chronic stress can prove to be lethal for the human mind and body. According to a study conducted by the University of Maryland Medical Center, it is found that too much stress results in the secretion of a hormone called cortisol which deteriorates the memory.
  2. Food becomes your best friend: An increased level of stress makes the body release certain hormones such as adrenaline for a flight response. When this hormone wears off, cortisol asks the body to replenish energy from food. This hormonal reaction results in emotional eating. As a result of stress, certain high sugar items such as ice-cream and chocolate give a good feeling to the body. According to a study conducted by the American Psychological Association it was found that 40 percent out of 3000 individual seek pleasure in high fat high sugar items.
  3. An upset stomach: Often before nervous breakdown, many people report symptoms related to IBS. A patient might also go through certain other symptoms such as stomach aches, abdominal pain and diarrhea. These indicators are related to overwhelming stress more often than not. According to a recent study conducted by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, it is found that more than half the people suffering from IBS have anxiety or depression related disorder.
  4. Slouching becomes your favorite activity: Slouching is a major indicator of stress. A study conducted by the San Francisco State University in 2012 revealed that slouching drains more energy than skipping. Poor posture and depression is a common phenomenon in people suffering from anxiety and stress related disorder. If this is occurring way too frequently, it is time to consult a doctor and get professional help.
  5. A hyperactive nose: People with hypertension, anxiety, depression and stress often find themselves with a hyperactive sense of smell. A study conducted by the University of Wisconsin revealed that when a person is exposed to disturbing images of crashes or accident, he is often found to have a distorted sense of smell. Even neutral smells can be mistaken as foul ones by patients suffering from anxiety. If this sounds familiar, it is time to visit a doctor.

How can I care my body. And how can I gain weight to be a strong. And what can I do for increase my memory?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Gaining weight is not healthy as obesity is a problem and for memory Strategies for Remembering 1.Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2.Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3.Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts (" leaves") should be logical. 4.Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5.When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6.Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a" morning person" or" evening person" at least one Study. Suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7.Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

Dear doctor please give me suggestion for how to stop smoking I need your help please sir.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
First of all you have made an excellent decision. Now stick to it and follow these recommendations: When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

Ginkgo biloba is a herbal supplement, used as an antioxidant. It improves blood supply to the brain, n assumes to improve the memory n enhance the thinking ability. But its not the alternative option in Parkinson, but yes there are studies which emphasize the benefits of ginkgo in dementia (Alzheimer). So seen the age of pt even with Parkinson it will be beneficial as an adjuvant. So you should not stop the first line treatment of Parkinson, n can give this ginkgo as a supplement.

Why did you ask girl for sex in public. Masturbation is perfectly fine. Masturbation is a healthy form of sexual outlet, do not feel guilty about it. Most of the liquid contains only water and some fructose and hormones. Hence it does not drain your energy, rather it s your mind. In your age masturbating 2-3 times a day is also acceptable, but do not ignore your other duties and get pre occupied in this. Sex will happen naturally, when you find a partner. Stop smoking, and do not over indulge in alcohol. If you feel you r hyper sexual, get treated from a psychiatrist. There r medications to reduce it.

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. The duty of your mind is to think. You cannot control your mind's thinking. Once you just leave your mind without diversion, it always end up in negative territory. But certainly you can divert your thinking. You can make your mind to be always positive by engaging in creative activities, hobbies, games and passionate towards whatever you do. Thereby you can reduce your stress and tension also. Once you can do this, loss of proper sleep and stress also can be made normal. Take care.

What will I do my body starts paining while playing football because it's happening from last 2 days.
That usually happens if you do not do warm up before the game and if you are playing the game occasionally without any exercise in between. Do daily regular exercise. You are unlikely to get the pains then. Also, always warm up exercises before the game. If the pains do occur, just take adequate rest and good sleep with plenty of water. It will resolve on its own.

Hi, I am 24, I want a ask about my psychological problem. A few years ago just before two months from my board exams ...
Dear Lybrate user, You seem to be getting anxious while writing, especially during exams. Experiencing a racing heart (palpitations), trembling hands or legs, having lots of thoughts in the mind are all ways in which anxiety gets manifested or expressed. If you try to control or stop these, they get enhanced as you become too aware of your bodily symptoms which in turn make you feel more anxious. Hence, just let that feeling pass as it will settle on its own in some time. Its good that you are practising mediation regularly. In addition to that, try the following techniques:- 1) Do deep breathing exercise before you enter the examination hall as it would help you to relax. 2) If you feel anxious while writing in the exam, just take a moment and try to focus on your breathing. It would settle the nerves and help you concentrate. 3) During your preparatory period, try to write as much as possible. Practice by attempting to complete a sample paper within the stipulated time. 4) Believe in yourself and have faith in your preparation! Best wishes.
