Hello, I am 17 and at present I am facing stress related to studies. I am not getting how to get rid out of it. Pleas...
Hi there ~ The stress of studies is not an uncommon one at all and it is universal. It is only the ability to tolerate stress that matters. If you are feeling stressed and are not able to study due to this there needs to be some stress management strategies that need to be followed for you to be able to study as well as retain it in your memory to be able to recall during examinations.

My wife is going through a mental depression very often. She sometimes become furious. Please suggest me what to do? She argued with past days mistakes.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

My wife is going through a mental depression very often. She sometimes become furious. Please suggest me what to do? ...
She is going through an anger-related depression and you will need to be very patient and caring towards her. She must immediately meet with a counselor and seek professional help. It is not to her good to avoid people anyway and must be involved in social activities as much as possible. She may refuse but you must insist and make her involved. In the meantime let her do the following sincerely because at her age she could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest she does the opposite of what this depression makes her feel like doing (actually, not doing): she will need to fight this condition. She must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose herself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, she needs to incorporate these three important adaptations in her life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If she did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Have her pray and have faith in God to alleviate her sufferings. She should not wait for others to help, eventually. She should use her own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but if she perseveres she will win this battle. Above all she should be really happy; she needs to live in love and for love: you need to love her and have her love you back. If she loves herself adequately, she will never do harm to herself. Let her be positive always and learn to do everything possible to invest into herself. Life is extremely precious and because the depression, which is a mood disorder, makes her feel like giving up she must still persevere. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get her out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate her, all the hard word must come from her, and her cooperation with that person is very critical for her success. She can do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

I am not able to concentrate on my studies because of mobile internet and laptop what should I do?

M.Phil - Psychology
Psychologist, Bangalore
At present times we all are using internet for our work. Try to use the internet for the study purpose. You try to select what you want to watch in internet. Make your time table. You search for study materials from the internet along with your academic text book. You will find a very interesting way of learning and you knowledge will increase. Try avoiding going much towards entertaining parts of internet, even though it is very attractive part. You are an matured individual. You should have control on your life. It may appear very difficult in the beginning but slowly you will realize the change. So, just try to use the internet in different ways and you will see things will fall in line.

My brother is 14 years old. Since his childhood he posses with very aggressive nature, stubborn, and very selfish. He can stand with anyone & he don't have any friend. He always think of himself that's why he fought with every one n don't listen to any one and got irritated on small things. Once we can consider this a personality trait or variety in child behavior. But he doesn't think & speak according to his age. He is 14 n talks likes a 8-10 years boy. He got irritated on very small things. Sometimes without any reason n when he is angry he gets mad, he hurt himself physically, slaps himself very tightly, eat rotten things & vegetables peels, once he dipped his slipper in tea n drink dat. He licks slipper also. He often threaten us that he will kill himself, send him to orphanage, I don't want to live long, everyone scolds me, no one can stop this at dat time, physically also he can't be control, he throw things, clothes, mobile etc. And few time he wounded himself wife fork, once threatening with knife. And he don't want to go school, he got irritated on teachers. About one - one month he didn't go to exams even sometimes skip his exams also. He got beaten very badly 4 dis thing bt nothing works, he is used to with this. Ne never cries when he was beaten, nor a single tear appears into his eyes. He'll die bt nvr go. No power on earth can change his mind. Even I got hurts wen I saw this and marks on his body bt de did not feel anything n after some time he behaves normally. Don't have any regret that is doing wrong. No stress or pain can not be seen on his face. Infact he fully enjoys whole day. And in addition he make high demands n few times he put conditions for going school. And wen his demand get full filled he happily go 2-4 day again got irregular. He is in 8th standard and I didn't think he had continuously attend d school more than a week. We have changed so many schools bt he never get comfortable in any school. Till 3rd he was comfortable but nor regular there also. He always got 94-98% till den. Bt after completed dat primary school he is transformed. He don't have adjusting & compromising nature not even for his parents or siblings. He loves his family a lot n also can't live without us. But for him HE himself comes first. On 5 JUNE OUR "MOM EXPIRED" due to Cancer. He lover her a lot n got pampered by her a lot. She was d only one who calm down her mostly & convince him to go school. He always sleep wit mom. He calls her to make him sleep. N after that she can go. BT now he never talks about her n did not said to anyone dat he misses her. 4-5 days he talks abt her. He has very easily excepted her death. Dat was surprising. It was not easy for his age. We were in hospital n was mentally prepared. He calls every hour to know abt her n we never tell d truth n said pray 4 her. He was very concern n whole time pray 4 her. Now he is 2 times more arrogant n rude, n dangerous for himself. He has quit his studies, whole day wat h TV or play games on mob. N always laying on bed whole day. Very rarely he sits when he is asked to do. In dat also he gets irritated. Now he never talks politely wid us esp wen we asked about him or his hygiene. He has become so lazy that he CNT give one glass water to anyone. That's a huge burden 4 him. His body reaction n face expressions reveal every thing. Sometimes he is talks very friendly. Wen ever I got sick he do a lot work. Make tea 4 me. Bring everything which I asked. Days d whole story & in this session he has attended classes max 10 days. He had d worst bad habit of chewing sweet flavoured supari. Since 6-8 months he is addicted to that BT now from a month he is eating 20-25 packets per day. Sometimes more dis also. His health is getting down. Whats can be d reason 4 his behaviour. Now its at peak and effected by his. Addiction also. Dat doesn't contains tobacco bt there is something in dat which makes him addicted to this level. Once I have eaten dat head started shaking 4 few sec. N rechecking dis twice, result was d same. Even I also got effected n wanted to eat that again. He is trying to leave bt his efforts fail every time. Since last 4 days he has reduced to 2-3packets n sometimes whole day he did not eat. We can't blame mom's death or eating supari as since childhood he is irritating n runs away from school. Now that had increase to max. He didn't listen to anyone nor he is afraid of anything. Sometimes listen to me bt put one desire or demand. 1. What's d permanent solution of this problem? We are now polite with him and dealing him with love n didn't force 4 anything, bt this alone can't work. 2.Did I need to refer a neuro-physician first. May be he had some hormonal disturbance/disbalance since childhood. 3.Or is this a complete psychological case?

Dear Lybrate user, Whatever you have written about your brother, and whatever I have understood till now is that he might be suffering from temperamental issues, if he would have been more than 16-18 years old, then he could have possibly be diagnosed with Cluster B type Personality Disorder (Borderline. May be. Since he is less than 18 years, he cannot be diagnosed as Personality disorder now. I think, his problematic behaviour has been continuously reinforced by his parents right from his chidhood and thus these problematic behaviours are relentlessly continuing till now. I would recommend you to please visit a psychiatrist at present and he needs a detailed temperamental evaluation at present. He also needs a detailed physical check-up also and also some blood tests. As far as using 'supari' is concerned, I think it needs a detailed evaluation with management with both medicines and psychological management. Please visit a psychiatrist soon. Thanks.

hi, I would suggest you to read the information about house lizard. It is harmless creature but as it looks awful and as it may fall on us so we tend to get scared of it. Try systematic desensitization... slowly expose yourself to lizard..first from a distance and then reduce the distance slowly. when you go near it you will find that the poor lizard is scared of you... :)

Sometimes I feel I'm fed up with this life. I can't feel like doing anything. Wanna sit alone. I feel like I'm going ...
Sit alone is a dangerous thing. Do not sit alone. If we sit alone. Think about past and future aspects it leads to depressive thoughts. Sit alone with a good mood. When we have a problems. Alone thinking it is not good. As per your age it is not good attitude. When you feel fed up it is better to share your personal feelings with your close friends and family members. They will help to you to come out from this status. Directly or indirectly. When you express your problems. It will not solved to tell others. Atleast the severity of the problem reduced in your mind. So better to make a very good friendly relations with others. We are human beings we get so many problems in regular problems. Some one have capability to control their problems. Some may not. In this stage you do not have capability to control your thoughts. So better to express. Be friendly. Be think in a positive manner. Better to concentrate on your studies. Develop busy schedule. Ok all the best.

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. Memory and mind power depends mainly on three aspects. Understanding, storage and recollection. To understand what you are studying, you must be able to be attentive or concentrate. Concentration is possible when you are interested in that subject. Creative way of learning can help you concentrate and understand easily. When you are able to understand and concentrate, it is stored within your brain. If you read more and more it will be store in long term memory. Third part is retrieval. Whenever you want to retrive what you learned and stored, your brain gets the request, searches the database and retrieves the information for you. The retrieval may prove to be difficult if you are anxious, stressed, worried or tired physically or mentally. Retrieval is more easy when you are relaxed and healthy. Brain needs nutrients to keep itself sharp. Fruits, vegetables and dry fruits provide much needed nutrients for your brain. Include at least one fruit in your daily diet. Physical exercises, entertainment, hobbies, relaxation, memory games like sudoku etc help keep your memory sharp and active. You may consult a psychologist online or in person for advice, counseling and therapy. Take care.

I am suffering from depression and bipolar mood disorder frequently since last 10 years. What is solution?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I think it is important for you to seek professional help in counseling along with the medication. It is not sufficient to rely on medication alone for your recovery. In counseling, which incidentally will be a long term intervention, you will learn of a lot of ways to cope with life and make adjustments that are essential for normal living. Emotional therapy will alleviate a lot of the problems faced in this condition because it is a mood disorder. You must exercise regularly, eat healthily and sleep normally too. If your motivation and cooperation is good much can be achieved. You must have a time-structured schedule filled with interesting and reasonable activities and it must be monitored for compliance and delivery. In this combination of medication with therapy is maintained for at least three years without any episodes or breakdowns, it is possible to taper the medication in consonance with the doctor.

I have started smoking when I was 17. Now I'm 20 years old I wanna give up smoking I'm trying from past 1 nd half year. I used herbal tablets but no use I can't give up. I really wanna quit but something not letting happen. Please give me a best solution.

M.Phill
Psychologist, Chennai
Start your stop smoking plan with start s- set a quit date: choose a date within the next 2 weeks, so you have enough time to prepare without losing your motivation to quit, if you mainly smoke at work, quit on the weekend, so you have few days to adjust to the change. T- tell family, friends and co-workers that you plan to quit: let your friends and family in on your plan to quit smoking and tell them you need their support and encouragement to stop. Look for a quit buddy who wants to stop smoking as well. You can help each other get through the rough times. A- anticipate and plan for the challenges you'll face while quitting: most people who begin smoking again do so within the first 3 months. You can help yourself make it through by preparing ahead for common challenges, such as nicotine withdrawal and cigratte cravings. R- remove cigrattes & other products from your home, car and work: throw away all of your cigarettes, lighter, ashtrays and matches. Wash your clothes and freshen up anything that smells like smoke. T- talk to your doctor about getting help to quit: your doctor can prescribe medication to help with withdrawal.

I want to avoid mental tensions. Can you please let me know the best way to avoid tensions.

I want to avoid mental tensions. Can you please let me know the best way to avoid tensions.
Learn to use the replacement method, of changing every negative thought, as it arises, into a positive thought. Don't fight negative thoughts, just divert your attention a positive thoughts or mental images. Write down and keep a list of inspiring and uplifting quotes, and read them several times a day. Think positive and inspiring thoughts before falling asleep. Though it might not be so easy, try to keep an attitude inner detachment in dealing with difficult or unpleasant people. Don't take too personally their remarks or criticism. Don't watch thrillers or action movies on tv before going to bed or falling asleep. Reduce the number of times you listen to the news on the radio or tv. Know what is going on in the world, but there is no need to constantly fill your mind with news that cause you stress or fear. Repeat positive affirmations several times a day. Do so also when you experience stress or fear. -" I feel peace and tranquility filling my mind and body. -" my mind is calm, like a lake on a quiet summer day. -" I feel calm relaxed and peaceful. -" I am a center of peace, calmness and happiness.
