I tend to forget things fast, earlier I was having sharp memory, what you would suggest?

Dear lybrateuser. Memory and mind power depends on three important factors. They are understanding, retention and recollection. Your brain stores information according what you perceive and it also depends on past experience. Understanding is the key. The more better understand, the more better will be the storage and retention. Once the brain retain it properly and stores in someplace where it can be retrieved easily, the more easy for it to recollect. So the basic step in remembrance is understanding. Make sure you understand whatever you study. There are" effective learning techniques" to help you. Physical exercise, outdoor games, indoor games, entertainment, hobbies etc also play an important part in improving brain power. Include green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts etc in your daily diet. Make sure to play brain games like sudoku atleast once in a week. All the above, together, contributes to keep your brain sharp and healthy. Take care.

How can I get rid of all negative thoughts and can concentrate only on studies? I mean I should forget the past and I...
There may be some things from your past that is looking for a resolution and unless that is done you will continue to remember the past. Do go for some counseling and identify what these items are and deal with them and you will experience some relief. This can cause undue discomfort and the memories may not be too pleasant either. Stress is not a good indicator for studies. Because of your age you may have hormonal imbalances which may impact your memory because of the chemical but also the distractions that come with it. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too.

5 Ways to Fight Depression If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. And if these are not useful you need antidepressants 1. Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2. Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat.. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3. Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.

I have been smoking cigarettes since 2013. And right now I have been addicted it. As well as I smoke marijuana, cannabis a lot. Even if I try to I can't stop myself from smoking it. Google even says it is healthy to smoke marijuana. But I am getting thin and dark in skin complexion and my lips have turned dark. And I have gained dark circles around my eyes. What to do. I'm really confused.

General Physician,
The use of marijuana is not only harmful to the pot smoker himself. He can also become a risk to society. Many people will tell you marijuana is not dangerous. Consider who is telling you that. Are these the same people who are trying to sell you some pot? Marijuana can harm a person’s memory—and this impact can last for days or weeks after the immediate effects of the drug wear off. In one study, a group of heavy marijuana users was asked to recall words from a list. Their ability to correctly remember the words did not return to normal until as long as four weeks after they stopped smoking.

My brother Age is 35 years he is smoking cigarettes from past 10 years. He smoke daily near 8 to 10 cigarettes. How to skip or reduce cigarette daily. In Future how to overcome this problem completely.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Ask him to follow these instructions: You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i. E. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

Depression can be reactive, due to external issues like financial crisis and interpersonal problems or depression can be endogenous, i.e due to changes within oneself, which happens due to altered neurotransmission in the mind. Endogenous depression can be very well treated by antidepressants which restore the changes, kindly consult a psychiatrist and seek remedy. All the best.

Hi I have recently got married. i feel really depressed. Miss my home alot. I also had fights with my husband and the fights in which there was physical violence also. I also fought back and gave him back. He is very impulsive. Now evrything is alright. But still feel very depressed. What can I do.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
When you are newly married, you will miss home and your family, initially. It did not help that during that time you have had fights with each other. I don? t know if you are staying with his parents too. That would make it even more difficult. If these fights had not become violent, I would have thought the better for it. The reason is that in the first two years of your marriage, there will be a lot of adjustment problems. This period is very critical and will determine the rest of your life with each other. The patterns of behavior get established and it may be for better or worse. So pay close attention to what is happening and if you need help please go to a marriage counselor and iron out the differences. One of the determinants will be as to who wears the pants in the house i. E. Who is the boss. That is sometimes unfortunately settled even physically. There cannot be two masters in the house. However, I am not suggesting that only one person holds the reigns. I always recommend, instead of equality, that the relationship should be complimentary. The domestic scene is normally the domain of the wife and the husband compliments her in that role. In the fixing, hard manual work, and some shopping etc, it is the area of the husband and the wife plays a complimentary role to support and be there for him. This is the ideal way. These two years please work to refine these roles. If he is impulsive, then have him seek help from a counselor and deal with that. Violence is never recommended. Sigmund freud once said? that violence begets more violence: it is like fighting fire with fire? it never works. I advise you in particular not to resort to violence, because he could do you a lot of damage, if he is stronger. I am hoping that your depression is your feeling of guilt for whatever you have done. If so, it is a sign that you are indeed a good person and do not like this behavior. Just don't do it. Instead have a lot of talks with him and bring better understanding between you two. Your family will always be there and marital relationships are very fragile today. Work towards building this up and you will never feel homesick.

Hi I m vry addicted to smoke. I tried many times to leave but I can not. I feel relaxed after smoking. But its too much like 20-30 per day. How can I good bye to smoke plz.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
I feel really happy for you guys who have guts to digest the truth that habitual smoking is an addiction and I am very much sure that guys like you although understand the disatrous effectss of habitual smoking but out of their craving or compulsion are unable to do so.But I wll try to figure out a clear picture in front of you and let you decide how to quit this habit as I think you are strong enough to quit this habit as you have a strong mind to accept this addiction. 1,Just think it yourself that was this the age to start smoking. This Is the age to relish your time, your age, free from all tensions just enjoying your Parents luxuries but you opted the other way, putting yourself into the darkness of fumes,Smoking .You just think how much money of your parents you have wasted till now. 2.Just ssee the poor people around you who cant make up for one time meals.Just think that if you were not ssmoking ,how many of them would you have fed during last 2 years and try to feel that happiness that you must have got and now you are deprived off. 3. Tell your friends, family, and other people you’re close to that you’re trying to quit. They can encourage you to keep going, especially when you’re tempted to light up. I uggest you to join a SUPPORT GROUP of people who have quit smoking by hearing their experiences with you. 4..You can quit. All you need is the proper motivation. Maybe a visit to a pulmonary clinic might help. Take a long look around at the people in the lobby. Many of them are like you (and me), they smoked for years and always had the excuse that it was just too hard to quit. Just think, if you keep lighting up, you can end up just like them. If you really want an eye-opener, go to a hospital and volunteer your services for a month or so. Every time you light up a cigarette, you get one step closer to that for an end. Be strong. You can beat this habit just like millions of people do every year. You just need a stronger reason to quit - at least a stronger reason that the one you use to defend your smoking. Good luck. I know what it feels like to be on both sides of this thing. 5.. It's important for you to reprioritize your spare time that would have been spent smoking. Try a new hobby, get out and & walk/exercise, read ... anything. Remember that cravings only last a couple of minutes. 6.Homoeopathic medicine DAPHNE INDICA 1X( Wilmar Schwabe India) Chew 2 tab 3 times daily AVENA SATIVA Q ( Dr RECKEWEG) Drink 20 drops in 20 ml fresh water twice daily To start with start early morning Brisk walking for 30 minutes and breathing deep while walking. ALOM VILOM PRANAYAM daily for 15 minute any time during the day. Report after 30 days There is always written on every cigratte case that CIGRATTE IS INJURIOUS TO HEALTH.It itself proves that we smoke only due to a habit or compulsion although understanding its after effects but reluctant

Mr. lybrate-user the complaints you have described clearly states that you are suffering from clinical depression. Unable to concentrate on work, not interested in previous pleasurable activities, feeling loneliness, irritability and crying spells all are classical symptoms of depression. Well stress, work environment, family pressure all can burden any individual. You at an young age are seeming to carry the burden of your whole family which is very much appreciable. My first advice to you is avoid using Internet and gadgets to make you better, they may worsen you in turn. Kindly don't use smoking and alcohol, particularly when depressed which can worsen you further. Try to be with friends and family. Spend time in places were people are engaged like malls and parks. Take a small break from the hectic schedule you are having. Maintain proper sleep pattern. Don't skip food. Practice exercises and yoga if possible, they are very essential to refresh ourselves. Love Yourself. Also kindly consult a psychiatrist for detailed evaluation and treatment. Be relaxed stay healthy.

We’ve all had the experience of feeling anxious about something, to the degree that it keeps us up and makes it hard to fall asleep. If you’re a worrier by nature, your fears and concerns may regularly cause you to lie awake in bed for hours, tossing and turning. When this happens frequently, one naturally begins to feel anxious about bedtime as night approaches, making it even harder to wind down. The good news is that anxiety can be successfully treated. Often through simple things you can do yourself, the vicious cycle can be broken. 1) Take deep, relaxing breaths Taking deep, relaxing breaths can calm the nervous system and decrease general tension. When you notice yourself starting to worry or tense up, take several slow deep breaths in a row (breathe in through your nose, and exhale your fears and worries out your mouth). I also use this technique whenever I have a difficult time falling asleep. 2) Avoid caffeine If you’re a worrier, stay away from caffeine, particularly in the latter half of the day. If you must have something in the morning, choose green tea as it contains an amino acid, L-theanine, which promotes serenity and calm. 3) Try guided relaxation techniques Find a guided, relaxation recording that you like and use it daily. Learn to shift from tension to relaxation by listening to the recording when you’re stressed, or in bed at night to help you relax and fall asleep. 4) Write down your worries When your fears run around familiar tracks in your mind all day, it can be hard to gain control of them. Stop the cycle of chronic worrying by writing your fears in a journal. What is the worst that could happen? What is more likely to happen, optimistically? What can you do to improve the situation? When you examine your fears, they usually lose their power. 5) Exercise to blow off steam If you’re feeling really keyed up, try going for a run, a brisk walk or go to the gym. Consciously work off and shake off your fears and worries as you do it. Physical activity releases stress and also improves depth of sleep at night. 6) Try Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Anxiety is often a result of poor thought habits such as fearing the worst, focusing on the negative, inaccurate assumptions and negative self-talk. CBT techniques can change your habitual ways of seeing the world. If your anxiety is significant, consider seeing a professional therapist trained in CBT. Alternatively, there are CBT self-help tools and worksheets available online that can help you work through your worries. 7) Get enough sleep Ironically, the less sleep you get, the more anxious you’re likely to be. It’s also harder to manage stress. If you’ve been feeling anxious, the last thing you want to do is cut corners on sleep. Get to bed earlier, to give yourself the best chance at a solid night’s rest. Finally, if you’ve been feeling anxious for a long time and it’s affecting your sleep significantly, it’s important to let your doctor know about it, in addition to trying these tips.

you can control fear by changing mind set and doing meditation and yoga. You can try nonmedical methods like AWARE- it is an acronym standing for: A: Accept the anxiety. Don't try to fight it. W: Watch the anxiety. Just watch it and when you notice it, scale your level of fear and start to breathe longer on the out-breath. A: Stands for 'Act normally'. ... R: Repeat the above steps in your mind if necessary. E: Expect the best.
