Hello sir my father is paralyzed and prostate problem. He is on catheter. Now he is not able to pass urine. What can I do this time. I can change the catheter or doing something else. Reply me fast. Thanks.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
General Physician, Delhi
Dear , first we have to identify why is he not able to pass urine. It could be due the paralysis and/or due to the prostate problem. If it is due to an enlarged prostate you could get a prostatectomy done. However if it is due to stroke then you have to change the ctaheter. Which side is he paralysed on? did he have a spinal injury or astroke if it is a stroke was it a blood clot or a bleed? can you please upload the ctscan and or mri and his ultrasound reports?

20-Year-Old Indians Experiencing Kidney Failure! 4 Killer Reasons.

DNB (Nephrology), MD, MBBS
Nephrologist, Delhi
20-Year-Old Indians Experiencing Kidney Failure! 4 Killer Reasons.

Kidney failure is happening even to 20-year-old Indians now! 4 Reasons why.

Usually more common in the elderly as a consequence of the chronic kidney disease, kidney failure is now increasingly becoming common amongst 20-somethings in the country.

Why?
Mainly because of their unhealthy lifestyle habits, they are falling prey to a disease that normally strikes later on in life.

Kidney failure, also known as renal failure, occurs when the kidneys stop functioning properly, that is, they are unable to filter out waste and toxins efficiently from the body. It is the most severe stage of chronic kidney disease. To ensure that toxins don't build up in the body, treatment usually involves dialysis (process for removing excess fluid and waste from the blood) or kidney transplant, among others. It is said that about 1 million people all over the world are on dialysis or are surviving on transplanted kidneys. The condition is permanent and can occur either very suddenly or slowly over time.

These frightening habits of the young are leading to the rise of the incidence of renal failure:

1. A sedentary lifestyle - A research conducted by the University of Utah School of Medicine suggests that if you spend 80 minutes a day sitting, you see a 20% increase in the risk of developing chronic kidney disease and, in turn, renal failure.Sedentary behaviour can also increase your risk of diabetes, hypertension as well as obesity (causes of chronic kidney disease).India is said to have about 60% of patients who suffer from hypertension and diabetes also suffer from kidney problem.

2. Poor eating habits - Studies suggest that the right diet consisting of fruits legumes, nuts, and whole grains can help in preventing kidney disease. On the other hand, a diet that is high in processed meats; salt and sugar can worsen the vicious cycle of high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and kidney disease. Furthermore, a BMI of over 30 can increase your risk of developing common kidney ailments by two-fold. With the proliferation of fast food outlets and junk food due to lack of time, Indians are increasingly now at a risk.

3. Smoking - Smoking brings about a decrease in blood flow to the kidneys, rendering the organs inefficient. When you smoke, the arteries of your body harden and the blood vessels become narrow, leading to a worsening of conditions like high blood pressure. A study by the John Hopkins University says that smoking can increase your chances of developing kidney disease by about 60%. Many young Indians view smoking as fashionable and some even take it up to 'look cool', to beat stress or just to blend in with their peers.

4. Drinking alcohol - Excessive alcohol consumption can bring about significant changes to the way your kidneys may function. Your kidneys end up becoming less efficient at removing alcohol from the blood due to regular drinking. Additionally, more than 2 drinks a day has been found to significantly increase your risk of high blood pressure, a common cause of kidney disease.

Sir, if flow of urine is slow then it could be due to urinary outlet obstruction probably due to prostatic enl argement. Needs evaluation by clinical per rectal examination, serum psa, ultrasound sometimes biopsy to rule out benign or malignant cause then only treatment can be advised according to the cause.

urine sugar is not measured quantitatively. 1 + stands for mild (roughly more than 180 mg%) and so on. During our MD days, we would rely upon urine sugar estimation as blood glucometers were not freely available. but, in present days, urine sugar has become nearly obselete . you have very high blood sugar levels, which can be dangerous. consult with a good physician immediately and take proper medicines.

I have 7 mm stone in left kidney please give me advise about medicine for release stone.
In the homeopathic system of medicine, one can easily remove the kidney stones naturally with simple homeopathic medicines. The advantage of homeopathy is that you can avoid surgery and it also cures the tendency of the body to form stones. This means that the chances of the stones being formed again are next to nil and reduce pain ..consult me by clicking on consult option for homoepathic treatment without side effects.

Before labelling it slow, I would like to know the flow velocity of urine. You should take a graduated saline bottle and use it for passing urine and noting the time difference from starting to finishing till bladder gets empty. Measure the volume and divide it by the number of seconds taken for total emptying. If this value is more than 7 to 8 ml per second you should not label it slow. If it is really slow then urethroscopy should be done to rule out a possibility of stricture in urethra.

I don't understand why you should have this Colony count even after 2 months of treatment. Either the treat is not being taken fully or there is some other reason. This count means a full blown infection. Get a USG done of kidney and urinary bladder to rule out any other pathology and a blood sugar test done to rule out diabetes. Do not take it lightly. Take a lot of fluids orally and contact me.

Dear lybrate user since the stone has formed inside body it is due to your susceptibility and tendency which needs a constitutional treatment for cure, surgery is a mechanical process to remove the stone it cannot cure the issue and may lead to future recurrences too.
