Skin Care - How To Ensure It In Winter?

You are most likely to experience dry skin during winter because of the cold temperature, lack of sunlight and dry environment. The lack of moisture causes your skin to dry up, giving it a cracked, flaky and scaly texture. This season demands a careful skin care regimen, and here are some tips on how you can take care of your skin during the winters.

  1. Consult a specialist: You should visit a dermatologist for an analysis of your skin type. Based on this, your dermatologist will recommend a skin care regimen to be followed during the dry months. Using the prescribed skin care products will benefit your skin and prevent it from getting dry. Both high-priced and low-priced skin care products are effective in protecting your skin.
  2. Moisturise your skin: Your skin care routine and use of moisturisers have to change during the winter. You need to get a new moisturiser instead of the one you use during other seasons. You need an oil-based moisturiser instead of one which is water-based. The oil will help in creating a protective layer on your skin surface, which helps in retaining moisture. You can use night creams which are mostly oil-based. For your face, you need to apply moisturisers that contain non-clogging oils. This includes mineral oil, avocado oil, almond oil, or primrose oil. Lotions which contain humectants are also effective for winter skin care.

  3. Apply sunscreen: Sunscreen is not just for the summer season. The winter sun can cause damage to your skin as well. Hence, you should apply sunscreen on your face and hands before going out on a winter day. If you need to stay outside for a long time, you must reapply the sunscreen.

  4. Wear gloves: The skin on the hands is thinner than that on other parts of the body and contains fewer oil glands. This implies that it is hard to keep your hands moist during the cold winter season. This might cause cracking and itchiness. To prevent this, wear gloves while venturing outside. In case you need to wear woollen gloves, wear cotton gloves first for avoiding any kind of irritation caused by the wool.

  5. Avoid wet gloves and socks: Wearing wet gloves and socks irritates the skin and leads to itching, sores, cracking, and may also lead to eczema. Keep your gloves and socks dry.

You need to use foot lotions to avoid cracking of your feet and heels. Use lotions containing petroleum jelly and glycerine. You should undergo skin exfoliation to eliminate the dead skin from time to time. This will make the moisturisers and lotions to go deeper and be more effective.

How To Sustain A Healthy Eating Habit?

Eating well is one of the secrets to a long and healthy life. To be able to sustain yourself in the long run, without falling prey to life-threatening diseases or degeneration of the body and its functionality, one must invest well in nutrition. So how can you eat to live forever and maintain a healthy eating habit? Here are a few elements that you should add to your diet!

  1. Omega Three: Fish and nuts have the maximum omega-three fatty acid which is known as an anti-ageing ingredient that everyone must add to their daily diet. Have a serving of baked or grilled fish for dinner with a smattering of green vegetables and carry dry fruits or nuts wherever you go to get a dose of omega-three every time you are hungry for a quick snack. Raisins, walnuts and flaxseed are also great sources of this element.

  2. Fibre: Get a good dose of digestive fibre with each meal and every time you snack. The fibre collects all the toxins and flushes them out of the system which can prevent a host of disease from gastroesophageal reflux disease to acidity and even cancer. It is also a well-known ingredient that helps you maintain a steady blood sugar level. Lentils, legumes, barley, fruits and berries, in particular, are all great sources of fibre.
  3. Go Slow: Doing it in slow motion is the key to longevity - chewing, swallowing and savouring, that is. Studies have shown that many centenarians are in the habit of eating a low-calorie diet really slowly so that they feel full faster. This practice is especially prevalent in the Far East. So, take time out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Learn how to enjoy your own company and get used to eating slowly.

  4. Healthy Fats: Did you even know that there is such a thing as healthy fats? Well, now you do. So get loads of healthy fats that can be found in pistachios, almonds, olive oil and other such ingredients which can actually help in combating the build-up of excessive blood lipids which can lead to high cholesterol and even diabetes.

  5. Protein: Take in a serving of protein every single day. Not only will it give you energy, but it will also help in building good bone and muscle strength which will keep you active longer. This ingredient can also ensure that there is less cellular damage as you grow older, which eliminates troublesome problems like weak knees and fractures. Eggs, fat-free milk and other such ingredients contain good protein.

So pile the above ingredients high to enjoy a long and healthy life!

GM Diet - What Should You Know?

Are you looking for an ideal diet which is easy to sustain, and has both instant and long term effects? You should opt for the GM diet, which combines all these qualities. This healthy diet plan appeared on the Internet four years ago, and a lot of people have benefited by following it. Here are some important things you should know about the GM diet:

What is GM diet?
GM diet is a weight loss management and diet plan, which was developed by the General Motors Corporation for helping their employees maintain a good shape. It involves consuming certain food items per day.

Is GM diet effective?
In spite of being a popular diet plan, there are some conflicting views regarding the success of a GM diet. However, recent studies prove that this diet is quite effective in reducing weight at a quick rate. You will be able to lose up to 10 lbs per week by following the diet sincerely. For first time users, the diet can be overwhelming because of the radical change in diet, which mostly contains vegetables, raw fruits, and meat servings in reduced amounts. It is also important for you to exercise regularly while following the GM diet, as only following the diet will make you weak.

How to prepare for the GM diet?
If you want to undertake a GM diet for weight loss benefits, you should be able to withstand or resist excessive sweating, occasional feelings of hunger, and weakness at times. These are common side effects during the first few days of the GM diet. It is important for you to stay properly hydrated while preparing for the diet. This is because your body requires a lot of water for metabolism and energy during the diet span. You should also avoid taking alcohol while preparing for the GM diet.

Weight loss objectives
The GM plan was primarily developed to help middle-aged, GM Corporation employees become slim and maintain good health. This diet plan aims at eliminating your extra pounds so that you are safe from several health risks, associated with excess weight.

Side effects
There are several side effects of the GM diet as well because of the fast-paced schedule.

  1. Sudden weakness of the muscles may be experienced as the muscle tissues do not get sufficient protein during the early days of the GM diet.
  2. Excessive thirst and dehydration are likely as the fluids are used up by the body for metabolic processes.
  3. Headaches and malaise are also likely.

The GM diet can be undertaken by anyone. However, it is important to consult a doctor before starting the diet plan.

This looks good. Continue present medicine. Measure bp once every month on fixed dates after resting for ten minutes. Do not change medicine unless bp exceeds 160.

Can I take diabecon tabs if I am having hypothyroid will it interfere with my thyroid medication.
lybrate-user ji, thanks for the query. You can take any of the tablets or medicines, but there has to be a gap well over one hour after taking levothyroxine. Some drugs even need a gap of over 4 hours. Thanks.

Dengue - Know Regimen For It!

Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease that causes severe body pain, fever, rash, dehydration, and weakness in the body. Dengue fever is caused by a family of viruses called Flaviviridae. It is generally called DENV (Dengue Virus). It generally occurs in tropical parts of the world.

Dengue is a fairly new disease in the world, and not many people understand how to care for a patient going through dengue fever. This article will present the steps that should be taken by someone who is suffering from Dengue.

Initial Steps One Should Take

The first step of caring when contacted with this disease is to go to a doctor and get checked. Doctor will get some tests done to verify that the condition is indeed Dengue. After the doctor prescribes medication, self-care begins. Here are some.

Do’s and Don’ts one should follow which help to cure from Dengue Fever.

Do’s

  1. The patient should have plenty of liquids.
  2. The number of platelets should also be monitored on a regular basis.
  3. The rise of Hematocrit (PCV) should be checked every day and informed by the physician.
  4.  A thermometer should be present at all times to check the temperature of the patient.
  5.  If the patient has a high fever, then dip a sponge in cool water and slowly wash the body with it.
  6. Upon high fever, one should only take Paracetamol and Acetaminophen. Doctor should be consulted before taking any medication.
  7. The patient should also check the number of trips taken to the bathroom, in order to keep a track of the urination cycle.
  8. Check if the patient has a dry mouth and lips. Dehydration is very common with people contacted with dengue and needs to have water and electrolytes supplements every now and then.
  9. It is very important to check the CBC (complete blood count) of the patient daily as directed by physician. Call a pathology technician every day to get a blood test as recommended by the doctor to keep the platelet and the haematocrits in check.

Don’ts

  1. Do not take antibiotics, Ibuprofen or Aspirin.
  2. Do not take artificial fruit juice for hydration purposes.
  3. Do not agitate.
  4. Do not take unsupervised supplements to increase platelet counts.
  5. Do not use alternative medications like herbs as they can cause an allergic reaction.
  6. Do not stay without food for too long.
  7. Do not take any kind of sleeping pills if the patient is having difficulty sleeping.

Conclusion:

Dengue is a troublesome disease which can be disastrous if not taken care of properly. That is why it is very important to know the do’s and don’ts for caring about this disease. However, consulting a doctor or getting hospitalised in the worst cases will always be a good idea.

Healthy Hair - How Can Ayurveda Enhance It?

Everyone desires good and healthy hair. More and more people are falling back on Ayurvedic solutions for every single issue. In Ayurveda, you have various simple steps to make your hair healthy, strong and beautiful. These are all power packed cures that are likely to work out more than any other alternative. All your hair issues are solved from inside to make your mane perfect. Here are a few Ayurvedic solutions for healthy hair-

  1. Amla, the Indian Gooseberry: Amla or Amalaki is a decent element for filtering your blood. It is extremely powerful in relieving heartburn. The Vitamin C content in amla takes care of hair loss and dry hair. Dry some amla and powder them. Blend this powder with warm water and make a paste. Apply this on your scalp to get thick and long hair. It advances the growth of your hair and makes it dark. It solves a considerable amount of other wellbeing issues as well.
  2. Ayurvedic oils: Pick any of the essential oils like coconut oil, almond oil, or brahmi oil, and give your scalp a hot oil rub. A back rub is useful for improving the dissemination of blood in your scalp. It rejuvenates your hair follicles. In a brief period of six months, you will begin seeing the difference. Your hair develops better, thicker and more, and hair fall is diminished. Take 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, which is naturally crushed, and blend it in some oil to warm up. Utilize this blend for a hot oil rub if you are experiencing dandruff.
  3. Methi or FenugreekMethi is incredible for advancing hair growth. It is an extremely normal herb found in each home and is easily accessible. Take some methi and roast it. After that, grind it well. Take some warm water and make a paste of methi in water. Apply it on your hair and let it stay for 20 minutes, and after that wash off with water.
  4. Jatamansi, the Aromatic Herb: This herb is called Muskroot or the Indian Spikenard sometimes. This herb is valuable for expelling all infections in the blood and makes your skin sparkle. Apply this herb specifically on your scalp to advance the growth of hair. Make sure not to take more than 6 mg.
  5. Rosemary essential oil: This hair oil works efficiently on your hair and enhances hair regrowth. Rubbing the head delicately with Rosemary oil thrice a week improves the working of your sensory system, stops untimely greying of hair and decreases hair fall. For best and quick results use it overnight.
  6. Aloe veraAloe Vera makes your system clean. It is regularly used as a part of Ayurveda for its various properties that are useful for your well-being. Take 2 tablespoons of the Aloe Vera leaf and either drink or swallow it. This is useful for improving the functioning of your metabolism too.
