Reliving Your Marriage - How Can You Refresh It?

Marriages in our country usually last a lifetime and require effort from both parties involved to make them work. Often, marriages end because of boredom, as the partners begin to believe that the spark is gone. But there are many ways couples can perk up their marriage.

While it is true that many people are short on precious time in today’s day and age, what is also true is that a marriage is well worth some prioritisation.

Leaving dirty dishes in the sink for a little while longer does make good sense, if it means that the time is well-used to bond with one’s significant other. Leisure time spent between couples is crucial for the success of a marriage. Many couples do not make it a habit of listening to each other and this really does work to their detriment. Paying close attention to what the other one says and providing a response may not need a lot of effort but the dividends are rich in the form of the partner feeling good.

Intimacy is a valued feeling of being wanted and it has a big part to play in the success of a marriage. Over the long term, many couples do not make the required effort and the overall quality of their bond is reduced, as a result. While reinitiating contact may be as simple as holding the other’s hand, many people do not do this as they feel their partner should be the one to do so. Intimacy does not only equate to sexual intimacy, but can even simply be looking into one’s partners eyes with love.

Laughter is said to be the best medicine, and this happens to be true in the case of a marriage, as well. It has been found that couples who laugh about their past experiences are happier and get along a lot more amicably than those who do not. Recalling together where the couple first met and started seeing each other also has a positive impact as it makes both partners feel valued and thankful about what they have.

Below, are tips that don’t require much—if any—money, time or even hard work!

  1. Engage in a new activity with your partner. Doing novel activities with your partner enables you to re-experience the original emotional state at the beginning of your marriage. In other words, trying something new sparks excitement, producing passion. You can do anything from deep-sea fishing to salsa dancing to hiking a mountain to eating at a different restaurant.
  2. Add the element of mystery or surprise. Both mystery and surprise also mimic the emotional state of a new romance. But it doesn’t mean whisking your wife away to the Mediterranean or surprising your husband with expensive dinners. Here, little gestures also go a long way. Examples include, surprising your wife at work and whisking her away for lunch, or sending a greeting card in the mail.
  3. Do something that kicks up your adrenaline and arousal. Young marriages start out with an adrenaline rush. Your heart races, you get giddy, you’re alert, awake and excited. Arousal-generating activities can include exercising, going on a vigorous hike, and even watching a scary movie. So it’s almost like fooling your brain that the arousal produced to this scary movie (or any other arousing activity) is really due to your marriage, and this helps to perk up the passion.
  4. Take a mini-vacation — just the two of you. Get out of the house for at least one night and two days, somewhere that interests both of you and creates new memories together. You don’t have to go far from home or spend a lot of money. The key is to spend quality time together away from home. Studies show that for women, in particular, getting away is important. They feel more passionate when they’re away from the pressures of their lives. At home, women have a tough time compartmentalizing things. They’re thinking about the laundry, lunch, paying the bills, cleaning the house, and checking things off their mental to-do list.
  5. Touch more often. Touch produces arousal, comfort and support both physiologically and psychologically, and it doesn’t have to be much of a touch. Holding hands on a walk, making sure you give a hug or kiss or embrace daily reminds you that you’re physiologically bonded. When reigniting your relationship, the key is to shake things up consistently. Good luck!

NAIL COSMETICS -HOW SAFE ARE THEY?
Nails protect the tip of the fingers and greatly help in the appreciation of fine touch and aids in picking up of small objects. Moreover they add to the beauty of the hands. People take great care to maintain the looks of nails. Nail cosmetics are used to enhance nails’ appearance & beauty and to disguise unsightly nail conditions.

What we do not realize is, there is always a health risk while using these products;

Nail polish : Also called nail lacquer, consists of enamel, top coats and base coats either separately or combined in one product. Nail polish contain 30% solids and 70% solvent ingredients.
The usual ingredients are

cellulose film formers
Resins

Color substances.

Pearls or frosts are produced by bismuth oxychloride and titanium dioxide coated with mica and guanine. Nail polishes can produce allergic reactions which can develop in any part of the body. Nail plate staining (yellow/orange) occurs on repeated applications and the dyes may penetrate deeply. Nails may become friable if the lacquer is left on the nails for many weeks.

Nail polish removers : Usually made up of various solvents such as acetone. They may cause excessive dryness of the nail plate.

Cuticle removers : 0.4% sodium or potassium hydroxide is used as lotions or gels as cuticle removers. 1-5% lactic acid cream is also used.

Preformed plastic nails : These are prosthetic nails which can be fixed to the nails with cyanoacrylate adhesives. It can be trimmed to fit the fingertip. If they are kept for 3-4 days it can cause nail damage and discoloration. Sometimes allergic reactions can also occur at distant places.

National Nutrition Week - Simple Ways To Prevent Nutritional Deficiency!

The first week of September is observed as the National Nutrition Week to spread awareness about the pitfalls of nutritional deficiencies and how to address them. To spread awareness about this silent and unnoticed epidemic, National Nutrition Week is observed between 1st and 7th September.
Nutritional deficiency is a silent killer, especially in the present-day setting where several cannot afford a balanced meal, and many are giving into fad diet trends. This combined with the increasingly common sedentary lifestyle choices and lack of awareness about nutritional requirements paint a rather bleak picture of the prevalence of nutritional deficiencies. Combatting nutritional deficiency requires awareness. To achieve objectives of controlling rampant nutritional deficiencies, the first week of September is observed as the National Nutrition Week. To protect yourself from the common nutritional deficiencies, here is a list of simple things you can do.

  1. Find out more about the common nutritional deficiencies - Common nutritional deficiencies arise out of diets that are not balanced in the major food groups. These food groups include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. A little research into the common deficiencies shows a deficiency of either vitamins or minerals. Include lots of fruits, vegetables, and supplements if absolutely necessary in your daily diet. Talk to a dietician about your daily diet and ensure you are on the right path. After all, knowledge is power.

  2. Don’t miss out on the essential fats - Speaking of food groups, fats are the one is the single most avoided food group. However, it is important to know that not all fats are bad. In fact, it is vital for the proper functioning of the brain. Include more polyunsaturated fatty acids and Omega3 fatty acids in your diet. Fish and fish oil are the best source. Other options include avocadoes, almonds, coconut oil, etc.

  3. Include fibres - Another overlooked food group contains fibres or the indigestible part of fruits and vegetable, mostly consisting of cellulose. They are incredibly important for the health of the intestine. Other than this, they can reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes and protect the body from jumps in the insulin level after consuming sugary food.

  4. Antioxidants are essential - Antioxidants found richly in bright and colourful fruits and berries and dark green vegetables. Among their several benefits, they protect the cells from oxidative damages caused by disease-causing germs and blocks cancer cells.

  5. Organic over processed - Natural and organic food is superior in its nutrition content but also free from toxic pesticides and fertilizers. Additionally, they are rich in vitamins, minerals and fibres often lost in the processing and packaging of the food.

  6. Chose unpolished over polished - The kernel found in unpolished and unprocessed food grains is a rich source of protein and fibre. Brown rice, oats, barley, unprocessed wheat or atta, and bulgur contain the nutrient-rich part of the staples that are otherwise discarded by all the processing.

Your body is your temple and it requires proper care and attention to what you put in it. Adopting these simple habits can ensure a healthy and balanced long life without the burden of diseases.

Chemical Peels - How To Maintain A Clear & Youthful Skin?

A chemical peel is a quick, safe and easy option to immediately make your skin look refreshed and glowy. In this treatment, your dermatologist applies one of several available medicinal solutions on the surface of your skin. This coat of solution and sometimes several coats of the solution, are monitored very carefully and then neutralized and washed off within just a few minutes. Peels are generally performed for the face but can also be used for the hands, arms, shoulders or back. Peels can vary from mild, medium to strong and can be of a variety of compositions.

The peeling action on your skin not only improves the feel, look and texture of your skin but is also very useful for:

- Reducing acne and acne scars

- Reducing dark patches of melasma.

- Reducing age spots and freckles.

- Reducing fine lines and wrinkles

- Improving superficial (but not deep) scars.

- Routine regular maintenance of your skin.

The procedure itself takes just a few minutes and is completely painless. You may feel a slight tingling or burning sensation during the procedure which is completely bearable. Confirm in advance from your dermatologist if a strong or deep peel is being performed, which can be a bit more intense.

Starting after a day or two and depending on the type of peel, your skin may feel a bit flaky or dry for the next few days. This can easily be managed with liberal use of moisturizers. Sunscreens are recommended, since your skin may be a bit sensitive to sunlight, but normal day to day activities are not hampered. Discuss with your dermatologists about peels if you have unwanted spots or wrinkles, if you need an immediate refreshed look before social functions or if you simply desire periodical facial maintenance.

TIP FOR EXHAUSTED MIND:
Clearing the week's clutter from your mind will leave you feeling remarkably refreshed. Set some time aside every day to focus 100% on the moment.
The art of paying more attention in the present moment is the key to more effective stress and life management.
HOW:
1. Find a quiet and comfortable place. Sit in a chair or on the floor with your head, neck and back straight, but relaxed.
2. Become aware of your breathing, focusing on the sensation of air moving in and out of your body as you breathe. There?s no need to change the breath. Just feel it in your body.
3. When thoughts come up in your mind, don't ignore or suppress them, but simply take note of them. Observe where your mind went off to, without judging, and simply return to your breathing. Remember not to be too hard on yourself if this happens.
4. Set your alarm and practice ten minutes of this when you wake up, or when you go to sleep (or both).
