Somatropin works by binding to growth hormone receptors in target cells and activating the MAPK/ERK pathway. This causes the chondrocytes of cartilage to proliferate causing growth in height. It also activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway and leads to formation of insulin-like growth factor 1.
