Why Antioxidant Food Is Important For Weight Reduction?

Do your weight loss goals seem very far-fetched? It’s possible that your diet is the culprit. Let's look at this way – most nutritionists concur on the fact that weight loss is 90% diet and only 10% exercise. What they are saying is that even if you don’t ‘exercise’, you could still lose weight simply by eating sensibly.

So when you start to explore your diet for further answers, try to see if you are getting enough antioxidants. Wait how can antioxidants help with weight loss, aren’t they useful for your skin and heart and almost every other organ in the body.

The fact is while antioxidants are very good for your body, they also play a role in weight loss. The main role of antioxidants is to remove free radicals from the body. And your fat cells contain toxins such as free radicals. So when your body breaks fat cells down, the free radical level in the body goes up. 

Once this happens, you start craving foods that are high in sugar and salt. And once you turn your cravings into action, your weight can shoot up. So to help curb out any unnecessary impulses with respect to weight loss goals, include these antioxidant-rich foods in your diet. The food items are - 

  1. Go Nut -
    Be it the humble peanut, or the sophisticated macadamia nut – nuts are rich in antioxidants. Not just that, they also contain a high amount of healthy fats that promote satiety and are good for your heart. So you not only eat less overall but also keep your heart healthy. Note that most nuts are high in calories, so stick to a handful once a day.
     
  2. Grapes -
    This delicious fruit is rich in “resveratrol” – an antioxidant that removes free radicals that can lead to coronary artery disease. Grapes also increase the level of adiponectin, a protein that breakdown fat in the body. You can also consume them with Vitamin D to keep bone problems at bay.
     
  3. Spinach -
    Spinach is one of the most versatile food there is. You can add it to almost anything and make it taste good. From omelettes, pizzas, pasta to sandwiches – it can add flavour to any dish. But setting the taste aspect aside, spinach is rich in antioxidants like kaempferol and quercetin. The former has an anti-cancer effect on the body while the latter protects the body from cardiac and pulmonary disorders.
  4. Green Tea -
    Ah, how many times you must have heard that green tea is fantastic when it comes to weight loss. Well, there is plenty of truth to the statement. Green tea is packed with antioxidants that promote weight loss, the primary one being caffeine. Caffeine makes you feel full so that you don’t binge on unhealthy foods. Most of us wake up to a cup of hot coffee every morning. Coffee is like an indispensable part of most of our lives. But, there has been a lot of debate regarding the effect of coffee on human health. While some believe that coffee is a performance booster and prevents against certain diseases, others express doubt on the goodness of caffeine in coffee. Rather, the presence of caffeine keeps a lot of us worried about the adverse effects of coffee.

But, one needs to keep in mind that coffee is a complex beverage. It has both its pros and cons. One needs to know all about coffee before ordering the second cup for himself or herself. Reasons for having that second cup of coffee:

  1. Coffee activates your system: It contains caffeine that increases the level of adrenaline hormone in your body. This hormone is responsible for getting you ready for fighting against odds or physical tasks.
  2. Coffee checks your body weight: It contains minerals like magnesium and potassium. These minerals maintain the insulin level in your body. Therefore, by drinking coffee, your appetite for quick snacks gets killed. However, sugar levels stay intact. It also burns fat.
  3. Protection against cancer: A recent study claimed that coffee can provide protection against cancer. It is said to have the potential to reduce the chances of having prostate cancer in men and endometrial cancer in women.
  4. Guard against other serious diseases: Coffee is believed to provide prevention against some serious diseases Type II diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer disease and stroke. Reasons for not having that second cup of coffee:

  1. Toxic: Coffee has the possibility of being toxic. It can be adulterated with a lot of harmful impurities. The cheaper and poor quality coffee can prove to be highly toxic sometimes.
  2. Don’t overdrink: Coffee can prove very harmful and even lethal if taken in larger quantities. It has the potential to kill an individual if 80-100 cups are consumed in a shorter session.
  3. It gives sleeplessness: Coffee can turn you into an insomniac if consumed in larger amounts.

Conclusion
Nothing is good, if overdone or overused. The same goes for coffee as well. It is good for your health if taken in small amounts at measured intervals. Hyper somnolence or hypersomnia is a condition that leads to constant daytime fatigue and drowsiness as well as prolonged night time sleeps. In this condition, the patient will usually go through repeated bouts of sleep, which he or she will not be able to resist without proper treatment and intervention. This condition make patients take naps throughout the day even after a long and unhindered sleep throughout the night. Patterns of excessive drowsiness will begin to set in at the most inopportune times including meal times and even in the middle of a conversation. While there is no scientifically or medically proven cause for the onset of this ailment, it is known to affect adolescents more than adults. Read on to know more about the symptoms and treatment of this condition.

Symptoms:

The patients suffering from this condition will experience a variety of other symptoms in addition to the constant state of drowsiness. These symptoms include anxiety, which may even go to a severe level if it is not treated properly and on time. Other medicines include clonidine, antidepressants, bromocriptine, monoamine oxidase inhibitors and levodopa.

You have not mentioned weight of the baby! it is around 8 to 10 kg you may give him 3 ml 3 to 4 times a day. But what is more important is to find out the cause of vomiting it occurs repeatedly. In that case you have to consult your pediatrician.

The normal level of vitamin b12 in your bloodstream is generally between 190 and 950 picograms per millilitre (pg/ml). And you need not worry. You seem to have anxiety issues and need to relax the mind by meditation and yoga.

Hello, thanks for the query. Usually maximum recommended dose of metformin per day is 2500 mg. Most often 2000 mg is given in most patients. Thanks.

The body is controlled by chemicals known as hormones. These are produced in minute quantities by minute organs, but have great control on almost all body functions. There are different hormones, each determining different functions like how tall a person will grow, how strong the bones will be, how well a person can react to stress and the reproductive ages. There is also a master gland called the pituitary which is situated somewhere deep in the brain, which controls all these organs. Small variations in the amount of these chemicals in the body produce significant effect on their respective control organ.

Thyroid is one such major gland, which produces a hormone called thyroxine or T4 as it is commonly called. This controls metabolism and emotional health to a large extent. Reduced amounts of T4 is very common in women, and with altered metabolism, there is increased musculoskeletal pain in various joints.

Here are some of the best ways to reduce Joint Pain from Hypothyroidism:

  1. Step Up to Low-Impact Aerobics: Twenty to 60 minutes of near-daily aerobics — really any exercise that gets your heart pumping — can help speed up your metabolism and counter weight gain, a common hypothyroidism symptom and a contributor to joint pain. But if you have joint or knee pain, choose low-impact aerobics. Swimming is the ideal low-impact aerobic exercise — the water buoys your body and cushions joints.
  2. Strengthen Your Muscles: Strength- or weight-training exercises build muscle mass, which uses more calories than fat even at rest. That promotes weight loss and can ease the strain on your joints. Stronger muscles also directly help protect nearby joints. For example, strengthening exercises such as squats, lunges, and leg lifts develop the muscles that support the knees. Start slow with 15 repetitions of each exercise. Then build up to three sets of 15 reps each.
  3. Get Plenty of Sleep: Sleep is the time for muscles and joints to recover. If you're not sleeping well, you are not recovering as fast as you could be. What's more, when you're sleep deprived, you're likely to crave junk and comfort foods that can contribute to weight gain, which adds stress to your joints and increases joint pain. Aim for seven to eight hours of quality sleep each night.
  4. Stick to a Healthy Diet: Replace the junk food that can lead to weight gain with choices that enhance your health. For example, add fatty fish to your diet. It's a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, known to decrease inflammation, which may be contributing to your muscle and joint pain. Coldwater fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna have some the highest amounts of omega-3s. Also be sure to get lots of fresh fruit and vegetables high in antioxidants, which may counter inflammation, too.
  5. Practice YogaYoga poses are a great way to provide relief for joint pain while also increasing flexibility. For shoulder pain, look for poses that open your chest, like this simple pose: Sit with your feet flat on the floor. As you inhale, stretch your arms over your head. Clasp your hands together over your head and then turn your palms up toward the ceiling. Drop your shoulders and straighten up as if pushing through your head. Hold for 30 seconds. Release your hands, bringing them down behind you. Next, clasp your hands behind your back and lift your arms. Hold for another 30 seconds.
  6. Don't Let Fatigue Win: Fatigue is one of the most common hypothyroidism symptoms. Even though you might feel listless, you'll benefit from exercise because it will rev your metabolism and help you maintain flexibility despite muscle and joint pain. If you're too exhausted to complete a full exercise routine, break it up into several short bouts — even 10 minutes done three times a day will be effective. Also, stretching and relaxation exercises within two hours of bedtime may help you sleep better.
  7. Meditate for Stress Relief: Having a chronic condition such as hypothyroidism can be stressful, and that stress can actually contribute to pain and tension. That's why it's important to find ways to reduce stress, such as the practice of mindfulness meditation. This form of meditation teaches you how to distract yourself from what's bothering you by refocusing your attention, often on your own breathing. 

Thyroid hormones help all your organs work well. They control how your body uses food for energy.

What Do Thyroids Do

Thyroid hormones affect your metabolism rate, which means how fast or slow your brain, heart, muscles, liver, and other parts of your body work. If your body works too fast or too slowly, you won’t feel well. For example, if you don’t have enough thyroid hormone, you might feel tired and cold. Or, if you have too much thyroid hormone, you might feel nervous, jumpy, and warm.

What hormones does my thyroid gland produce?

The thyroid gland produces thyroxine (T4), which is a relatively inactive prohormone and lower amounts of the active hormone, triiodothyronine (T3). Collectively, T3 and T4 are referred to as the thyroid hormones. Twenty percent of the body’s triiodothyronine is made by the thyroid gland; the other 80% comes from thyroxine converted by organs such as the liver or kidneys.

The thyroid gland also produces calcitonin from cells called C-cells. Calcitonin is understood to play a role in regulating calcium levels in the body, but its exact function in humans remains unclear. Thyroid hormone is one such chemical which has effect on all organs of the body including the joints. Vague pains may be due to thyroid disorders. They are easy to manage with treatment.

For pimples clean the face properly with acnelac soap and for medicine, we can't write like this as per order. But don't scratch it to prevent scar. Use good antidandruff shampoo if you have it. Do thyroid tests to know the cause.

Acne Scars - Know The Dermatological Ways Of Treating Them!

Acne scars are caused when a pimple or cyst is popped and broken leaving a layer of damaged skin behind. These scars are caused by the excess oil, dead skin, and bacteria blocking the skin pores causing it to swell.

Acne scars can be categorized into three types:

  1. Ice Pick scars which are small but have deep pits.
  2. Boxcar scars have sharp edges, these can be shallow or deep
  3. Rolling scar have a wavy look as they are wide and shallow. This type of scarring is usually caused by damage to the skin.

Causes of acne scars:

Acne and acne scars can be caused due to the following reasons:

  1. Hormonal imbalance during or after the onset of puberty
  2. Medicines that contains lithium, androgen or corticosteroids
  3. Oil and greasy food items and those rich in carbohydrates can trigger acne. In some cases, dairy products can worsen the condition.

Simple tips to prevent scarring:

Some acne scars fade with time. In the early stages, the scars might look pink as blood vessels in the damaged area of the skin provide it with nourishment. With time the collagen in the skin would fill the injured or damaged portion of the skin. In some cases, it might take up to a year for scars to fade.

  1. Don’t pick or squeeze pimples or acne as they can get inflamed. This inflammation can cause the bacteria to go further into the skin which would result in deeper scars.
  2. Use mild cosmetic products as some products can increase the risk of acne and scarring. Non-toxic, paraben-free products free from synthetic dyes and colours should be used sparingly.
  3. Getting enough sleep is important and necessary for the body to produce collagen which is a protein necessary for skin elasticity. Sleep also helps the body and skin to repair itself.

Treatment of acne scars:

In extreme cases, you might need proper treatment at a hospital. Most of these treatments can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Some of them are:

  1. Skin resurfacing: where the damaged skin is removed to help new skin to grow. The damaged skin can be removed by the use of a laserdermabrasionor a chemical peel.
  2. Laser Treatment: Lasers such as fractional CO2, MNRF, etc can help.
  3. FillersIn this procedure, the doctor would inject a filler such as a collagen or fat into the damaged area. This helps the skin to become smooth.
  4. Rolling: Rolling also known as needling, is a procedure where tiny needles are rolled over the skin to stimulate it to grow
  5. SurgeryIn a few very extreme cases the scars would need to be cut away and the area repaired with the use of skin grafts obtained from another part of the body.
