Hello lybrate-user Alam First of all you should have to stop the current medicines as it has side effect as decrease of semen volume and impotency. Because of it is more important to maintain semen and sexual stamina more than hair loss. Else you can take Ayurveda medicines alternately for Hair fall by consulting Ayurveda doctor. And for semen volume and impotency also can start ayurveda medicines if you have problem. For evaluation you can check semen analysis report for confirmation of side effects on this point. Regards

Priapism - Types and Causes!

Priapism - Types and Causes!

One of the rare sexual problems to affect men is a condition termed as Priapism. As known to many, a normal flow of blood plays a pivotal role in ensuring a healthy and proper erection of the penis. During an erection, the tissues of the penis (soft and spongy tissues) receive an increased flow of blood (triggered by the relaxation and expansion of the arteries of the pelvis and the penis). However, any abnormality in the flow of blood can affect this erection giving rise to priapism.

Priapism is a sexual disorder characterized by an erection that lasts for an abnormally long time period (at times for close to 4 hours). With such an extended and prolonged erection, priapism results in immense pain and discomfort. The condition can affect all males, irrespective of their age (from newborns to aged people). However, men in their 30's are more susceptible to priapism. The trigger for priapism is not always sexual arousal. A person can also suffer from this condition instantaneously without any sexual excitement.

Ischemic and Non-Ischemic Priapism
Depending on the flow of blood to the penis, priapism can be either

  1. Ischemic Priapism: Here, the blood that flows to the penis and the erection chambers gets trapped there, failing to move out. Also known as Low-Flow Priapism, this painful condition results in prolonged erection (often more than four hours) without being sexually aroused. In Ischemic Priapism, the penile shaft appears stiff and rigid as compared to the penile glans which appear soft and tender.
  2. Non-Ischemic Priapism: This type of priapism arises from the improper regulation of the flow of penile blood. Also known as High-Flow Priapism, the condition is quite rare and can be triggered by an injury to the perineum or the penis that may rupture or damage an artery.

What triggers priapism in males?
As already stated, one of the prime factors responsible for Priapism is the improper flow or regulation of penile blood. There are many factors and medical conditions that can act as a potential trigger affecting the normal flow of blood.

  1. Sickle-cell anemia: Sickle cell anemia is an inherited genetic disorder whereby the red blood cells appear sickle-shaped instead of being round shaped. Sickle-cell anemia can go a long way to trigger priapism, especially ischemic priapism (the sickle-shaped RBCs can be instrumental in blocking the penile blood vessels) in males. Ischemic Priapism can also be an outcome of Leukemia or even Malaria.
  2. Multiple Myelomas, as well as Thalassemia, can also act as contributing factors resulting in Priapism.
  3. Certain medications can also wreak havoc triggering priapism. Some of these medications include:
    • Antidepressants (bupropion, fluoxetine).
    • Blood thinners (such as heparin).
    • Alpha-blockers (tamsulosin, prazosin).
    • Atomoxetine and related medicines (used in the treatment of ADHD).
    • Clozapine and other related drugs used to deal with anxiety.
    • Phentolamine, and related medications used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
  4. Priapism can also be triggered by medical conditions such as penile cancer, gout, syphilis, injury to the spinal cord or the penis, alcohol abuse.

Ayurvedic treatment helps to work on its sysmptoms, prevention and treatment of later complications, correcting imbalance, adjusting the immune system and most importantly helps in boosting energy and strong body for better health and quality of life. The purpose of this treatment is not to replace necessary orthodox medical treatment. A combination of both is recommended.

Baldness Drug May Be Linked To Erectile Dysfunction!

Baldness Drug May Be Linked to Erectile Dysfunction

Men like to look their best, and for some men that means attempting to cover up any signs of baldness on their head. Men who find baldness unwelcome should know that a recent study indicates a popular ingredient in some baldness drugs may have a link with erectile dysfunction. When a drug has the potential to affect penis health, guys need to take a look at the available information to make an informed decision.

Finasteride

The ingredient in question is called finasteride, and it is marketed for baldness treatments under a number of brand names. In addition to being used to treat baldness, it is commonly prescribed for men with an enlarged prostate. (Interestingly, while it is marketed to treat baldness in men, it is also used to treat hirsutism - that is excessive hair growth - in women.)

Whether finasteride is effective in treating baldness is a question that inspires some debate, but it is officially approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for that purpose.

Erectile dysfunction

Scientists have thought that finasteride may increase the risk of erectile dysfunction in some men at least since a study published in 2010. This belief is based on the fact that one of finasteride's functions is to lower the amount of testosterone in men, which can have an impact on the sex drive.

Now a new study, published in the journal Peer, provides more evidence that may back up that theory. This study, from Northwestern Medicine, looked at the records of almost 12,000 men in a massive database. They focused on men between the ages of 16 and 89 (inclusive) who had been prescribed drugs for baldness or prostate issues at least once over a 21-year period. They then looked at any diagnoses of sexual dysfunction.

They found that men prescribed the drug for a longer period of time had a greater risk of prolonged erectile dysfunction - and that this was especially true for younger men (those aged 16 to 42.) As they put it, "in young men, prolonged exposure to finasteride posed a higher risk of persistent erectile dysfunction than any other risk factor."

Indeed, in that earlier age subset (16 to 42 years), men who took the drug for 205 days or more were five times more likely to develop erectile dysfunction than if they took it for fewer than 205 days. And the median duration of the erectile dysfunction was almost four years, even after they stopped taking the drug.

What to do?

Not all men who took finasteride had this issue, but men who are concerned about hair loss and are using or considering using finasteride should consult with their doctors to see if they need to modify or monitor treatment in any way to reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction developing.

Every man has to decide how he feels about personal baldness. Many men embrace it, preferring to shave their heads and rock the look. But not everyone is comfortable with that option. But finding the right balance between baldness treatment and penis health is important.

Jock Itch and Hair Growth Treatment: Connected?

Jock Itch and Hair Growth Treatment: Connected?

One of the more promising recent trends has been growing acceptance of bald heads as desirable. Many men now shave their heads because they and those around them perceive it as sexy. But there are still plenty of bald or balding men who take the opposite approach, using hair growth treatments to try to stimulate new growth. It’s definitely a personal decision, but in some rare cases, opting for hair growth treatments may possibly bring about a minor penis health concern: jock itch.

Hair growth

There are many different kinds of hair growth treatments out there, but one of the most popular is the drug finasteride. Marketed under a number of brand names, finasteride was originally created as a treatment for enlarged prostates. However, it has also been approved for use in treating hair loss. According to Wikipedia, use of finasteride slows down hair loss and can improve hair retention by about 30% over a six-month period. So it’s easy to see why men who are experiencing hair loss concerns may investigate finasteride as part of their hair growth plan.

Of course, just about every medication has some side effect or potential side effect, although exactly what that effect may be depends very much on the individual person. There have, however, been a few reports from individuals taking this medication that have subsequently developed jock itch.

These reports are not published in medical journals, so they haven’t been scientifically verified. It may be that these people developed jock itch for reasons having nothing to do with their hair growth treatments. However, finasteride does seem to have some effect on hormone production, and hormones do seem to have an effect on fungal development (and jock itch is a fungus). But all this is very murky and unclear right now. Still, it’s worth knowing so that a man who is using finasteride can keep an eye out for signs of jock itch and treat it properly if it does appear.

Jock itch

As mentioned, jock itch is a fungus, essentially a yeast infection. As the name implies, the primary characteristic is an itchiness which can be quite severe at times. Jock itch is not especially serious, but it can be very annoying.

Jock itch most often occurs in the groin area, including the thighs. It presents as a red, ring-shaped rash. The fungus thrives in warm, moist areas, so the penis and its environs are ideal for its growth. It is spread from person to person contact, or from coming into contact with surfaces or materials used by a person with the fungus. In men, jock itch is often spread by sharing towels or clothing. It is also a close cousin of athlete’s foot, so treating athlete’s foot can help prevent jock itch. Often a person may scratch his itchy foot and then scratch his groin, transferring the fungus in the process.

Over-the-counter treatments can help get rid of the fungus that causes jock itch. Other medications may help soothe the itching while the rash is still present.

What is the Most Effective Hair Regrowth Treatment?

Hair thinning and loss of hair is very common in today's lifestyle. Excessive stress, anxiety, lack of sleep, a poor diet can be listed as the major environmental culprits but genetics too plays an important role in premature hair loss. There are plenty of hair growth products that promise results but very few work. Here are some effective hair re-growth treatments that have been proven to be successful.

  • Finasteride (Propecia)- Finasteride is an umbrella term for the Propecia and Proscar. If you are affected by DHT (dihydrotestosterone), it will cause your hair follicles to become smaller until they have shrunk to the point they can't grow any hair. Finasteride reduces the effects of DHT up to 70% and even causes hair to grow back. It can take from 3 months up to a year for it to show any results. This has been often referred as the best hair loss treatment available with little to no side effects.
  • Minoxidil- Minoxidil was originally a remedy to treat high blood pressure, but several users reported its hair growth effects, it was then manufactured as a topical medication for hair loss. Minoxidil works by stimulating the hair follicles by enlarging the blood vessels which causes more nutrients and oxygen to flow into the follicle leading to hair growth. Users can notice significant growth from 2 to 3 months of using Minoxidil.
  • Prostaglandin analogs- These are relatively new options which are currently being examined of their hair growth potentials. These are mainly used as eyelash enhancements now but scientists are hopeful that they soon can be treated for hair loss.
