What Type Of Food Items Are Surprisingly Unhealthful?

A healthy diet contains all the necessary nutrients and fibres that are essential for the body. For a healthy body, a balanced diet and regular exercise are beneficial. However, there are some myths about the foods which are unhealthy in reality but considered healthy by many people.

Here are some of the food items for which we will bust myths about:

Packaged Fruit Juices and Smoothies

If people think that bottled smoothies and fruit juices are as healthy as they claim, then we are happy to bust the myths about these packaged juices. Most of the bottled juices contain harmful preservatives and artificial flavouring, which are bad for health. The juice cans people use for breakfast have the highest content of sugar.

Instead of using fruit juices and smoothies from the market, one must eat whole fresh fruits. The bottled juices have higher sugar levels, whereas fresh fruits are rich in natural sugar, fibre and vitamin C. They not only make the body slim but also give a natural glow.

Market Bread

People think that bread is freshly baked with goodness of wheat, but this is not true in the case of processed bread. The main nutrients in bread are kernel and bran which get removed at the time of processing. Hence, the market bought bread have higher GI (Glycemic Index) levels, which increases the fat and cholesterol. Many think that eating brown bread is healthy, but without bran contents and with higher GI level, it makes the bread harmful for the body. One can buy the bread that is made from sprouted grains which decrease the content of phytic acid in bread.

Protein Bars

The protein bar is another food item which people consider as healthy. However, these bars are made of processed chemicals which are dangerous and harmful for the health. The bars contain an unhealthy level of sugar and processed nuts and fruits which have higher levels of acid and chemicals.

Flavoured Oatmeal

The flavouring in any food is done with the help of preservatives. These chemicals are very dangerous for health. People who want to have oatmeal can try to infuse it with own’s natural flavours like honey, coconut sugar, etc. The flavoured instant oatmeal is terrible for health rather plain ones. Add fresh fruits and nuts for extra seasoning.

Diet Sodas

Diet Sodas have less amount of sugar to make it less in calorie. But, in order to add sweetness in it, they add artificial sugars like aspartame, which are harmful and unhealthy. Soda and carbonated drinks increase the risk of heart disease, leading to stroke or heart failure. It is essential that people should replace these drinks with homemade fresh fruit juice or lime water.

These are some of the unknown facts about food that people consider as healthy. One should always avoid the excess consumption of these foods. However, eating these in a moderate way or occasionally will not harm the body.

Immunotherapy is the prevention or treatment of disease with substances that stimulate the immune response. The amounts are increased gradually. The immune system gets desensitised due to this treatment. This treatment is ideal for people who suffer from allergies all year round.
  2. MeditationIncreased amount of stress worsens existing allergies by upsetting the balance of substances in the body controlling your immune response. Meditation is a great way to eliminate stress and helps in relieving anxiety. Regular meditation will keep you free from allergies.

  4. Healthy heart: It has been observed that eating carbs in the morning can prevent heart diseases. It also helps prevent obesity by burning more calories which, in turn, improves performance (be it at school or work). Just think of a person who eats a carb-rich breakfast and make a mental comparison of their energy levels. The difference is there for all to see.

So, what should you eat?

  1. Sprouts and 1 chapati
  2. Oats and besan chilla
  3. Nachni chilla / porridge
  4. Sweet potato boiled

But I am very afraid to ...
All psychotropic drugs have side-effects: mild with some and severe with others. There are medicines to treat the side-effects too. But now the choice is whether the main problem is more serious than the side-effects. In that case, you will need to take the medication anyway. You can minimize the effects by being on therapy too and doing regular exercise, sleep well, deal with your feelings, eating a healthy diet, and living a stress-free life.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details, in which there is no mention of how is your blood glucose controlled. Sometimes if blood glucose is not wll controlled, there is a chance of loosing weight and developing signs of general weakness. The medicine mentioned (cyproheptadine) is actually an antihistamine. Appetite stumlation is a side-effect of that drug. It is not supposed to be taken for that at all. Plus it will produce fair amount of drowsiness. Thanks.

Chronic Venous Insufficiency - Everything About It You Must Know!

Chronic Venous Insufficiency - Everything About It You Must Know!

Chronic Venous Insufficiency is an abnormal condition of the leg veins. It occurs when either the walls or the one-way valves of the veins cannot work effectively. This
makes it difficult for the veins to send the impure blood from the legs to the heart. This results in impure flowing backward and collecting at places in the veins. It can
cause swelling, pain, and changes in skin and over time may lead to ulcers in legs.

Causes of Chronic Venous Insufficiency
Veins return impure blood from all parts of the body to the heart. In the case of legs, the impure blood has to flow upwards to the heart. The natural coordination between contractions of feet and calf muscles with every step helps to push the blood upward. The veins have one-way valves to ensure that impure blood does not flow back up into the veins.

● If the valves in the veins somehow get damaged or weakened, the impure blood starts backing up. This results in Chronic Venous Insufficiency.
● Blood clots in the deep veins can also precipitate this disease. Blood clotting in the deep veins of the legs is a disease which is known as Deep Vein Thrombosis. Nearly 30% of people with Deep Vein Thrombosis develop this disease.
● Vascular malformations and Pelvic tumors may impair the natural coordination of muscles and lead to failure of leg valves in holding the weight of impure blood. This may lead to swelling of legs and Chronic Venous Insufficiency. Damaged or weakened valves may result from aging, extended standing or sitting, reduced mobility or a combination of all. If either the valves or the walls of veins become so weak that the veins cannot ensure normal blood flow, it leads to higher blood pressure in the veins for extended periods of time leading to Chronic Venous Insufficiency.

Who Is At Risk?
CVI occurs frequently in people aged over 50 years, and it affects women more than men.

CVI is a gradual development. The earlier it is diagnosed, the better are the chances of recovery. Complexities of treatment increase with the disease progression. This is why early recognition of the symptoms can be a game changer. Waiting for the problem to go away would aggravate the problem. Early intervention would ensure a rapid recovery. This is why one needs to have a fair idea of the symptoms. The symptoms include:
● Swelling in ankles and lower legs, mostly after sitting or standing for extended periods.
● Tiredness or pain in the legs
Varicose veins
● Changes in the appearance of the skin of legs
Itching or flaking skin on the legs
● Ulcers in legs

Chronic Venous Insufficiency demands a combination of treatments to bring the situation under control. With the help of compression stockings, regular movement, and exercise, one can help the leg veins to push the blood up. If there are ulcers, the doctor may also recommend antibiotics to prevent infections. For blood clots, the doctor may also prescribe blood thinners. However, if the situation does not come under control despite these measures, the doctor may go for surgery that includes vein repair, vein transplant, vein bypass, vein ligation, etc.

Take Away-
There are many treatments available for Chronic Venous Insufficiency. However, it is
always advisable to consult a doctor before opting for any treatment.
