About Melflam 15mg Tablet

Melflam 15mg Tablet helpful in relieving of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, and is known as an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). It thus reduces pain, stiffness of the bones and swelling as well.

Melflam 15mg Tablet should be taken exactly as prescribed by your medical professional. The drug should be taken orally, along with a glass of water, unless discourage by your doctor. Avoid lying down for about 10 minutes just after consuming a dose.

The drug is available in both tablet and liquid form. In case you are taking liquid Melflam 15mg Tablet, make sure that you shake the bottle before each dose. Use a measuring device to ensure that you take the precise dose as prescribed. Avoid using a tablespoon or teaspoon in this case.

If you suffer from a bad stomach because of Melflam 15mg Tablet, it is best that the drug is taken along with milk or food. An antacid may also help relieve the symptoms of a stomach upset.

While using this medication, do not use alcohol, excessive amounts of vitamin C, or salicylate-containing foods (curry powder, prunes, raisins, tea, or licorice), other prescription or OTC medications containing aspirin or salicylate, or other NSAIDs without consulting prescriber.

A few common side effects related to Melflam 15mg Tablet are stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea and dizziness. The drug can also cause high blood pressure, thus doctors generally advise regular BP checks to patients taking Melflam 15mg Tablet. If the side effects tend to get severe inform the doctor and seek relevant treatment.

Maintain adequate hydration (2-3 L/day of fluids unless instructed to restrict fluid intake). You may experience nausea, vomiting, gastric discomfort (frequent mouth care, small frequent meals, chewing gum, sucking lozenges may help).

If self-administered, use exactly as directed (do not increase dose or frequency); adverse reactions can occur with overuse. GI bleeding, ulceration, or perforation can occur with or without pain.

Stop taking medication and report ringing in ears; persistent cramping or pain in stomach; unresolved nausea or vomiting; difficulty breathing or shortness of breath; unusual bruising or bleeding (mouth, urine, stool); skin rash; unusual swelling of extremities; chest pain; or palpitations.

Symptoms of overdose include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain. Rarely, severe symptoms have been associated with NSAID overdose including apnea, metabolic acidosis, coma, nystagmus, seizures, leukocytosis, and renal failure.

Management of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) intoxication is supportive and symptomatic. Since Melflam 15mg Tablet undergoes enterohepatic cycling, multiple doses of charcoal may be needed to reduce the potential for delayed toxicities. Cholestyramine has been shown to increase Melflam 15mg Tablet clearance.

      • Interaction with Medicine

        • Ace inhibitors: Antihypertensive effects of ACE inhibitors may be diminished by NSAID administration.
        • Anticoagulants (warfarin, heparin, LHWHs) in combination with NSAIDs can cause increased risk of bleeding.
        • Antiplatelet drugs (ticlopidine, clopidogrel, aspirin, abciximab, dipyridamole, eptifibatide, tirofiban) can cause an increased risk of bleeding.
        • Aspirin increases serum concentrations (AUC) of Melflam 15mg Tablet (in addition to potential for additive adverse effects); concurrent use is not recommended.
        • Cholestyramine (and possibly colestipol) increases the clearance of Melflam 15mg Tablet.
        • Corticosteroids may increase the risk of GI ulceration; avoid concurrent use.
        • Cyclosporine: NSAIDs may increase serum creatinine, potassium, blood pressure, and cyclosporine levels; monitor cyclosporine levels and renal function carefully.
        • Hydralazine's antihypertensive effect is decreased; avoid concurrent use.
        • Lithium levels can be increased; avoid concurrent use if possible or monitor lithium levels and adjust dose. When NSAID is stopped, lithium will need adjustment again.
        • Loop diuretic's efficacy (diuretic and antihypertensive effect) may be reduced by NSAIDs.
        • Antihypertensive effects of thiazide diuretics are decreased; avoid concurrent use.
        • Warfarin INRs may be increased by Melflam 15mg Tablet. Monitor INR closely, particularly during initiation or change in dose. May increase risk of bleeding. Use lowest possible dose for shortest duration possible.
      • Interaction with Disease

        Gastrointestinal irritation, ulceration, bleeding, and perforation may occur with NSAIDs. Serious complications may occur without prior symptoms of gastrointestinal distress. Use with caution in patients with a history of GI disease (bleeding or ulcers), decreased renal function, hepatic disease, congestive heart failure, dehydration, hypertension, or asthma. Use with caution in elderly patients. Anaphylactoid reactions may occur, even with no prior exposure to Melflam 15mg Tablet. Use in advanced renal disease is not recommended. May alter platelet function; use with caution in patients receiving anticoagulants or with hemostatic disorders. Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established.

        It should be taken with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal irritation
