Myofunctional orthodontics treatment is for irregular teeth and it does not require the use of Braces. Myofunctional treatment is used as an early intervention method for children to prevent the need for extensive treatments such as arch expansion or braces. This therapy is also used in conjunction with arch expansion to increase the effectiveness and ensure promising results after treatment in children with more severe teeth pattern. Myofunctional orthodontics is not only to straighten the teeth but also to focus on the muscle dysfunction to get a healthier long term result for the patient. It addresses a simpler way to treat orthodontically. Myofunctional orthodontic techniques have been practiced by Orthodontists and Dentists for over 50 years globally. This treatment includes tongue thrust exercises to expand the room for the tongue to retain between the maxillae and allow right breathing and swallow procedures. This expansion does speech and very much simpler, called as myofunctional speech therapy. Myofunctional therapy or tongue thrust exercises is an exercise that re-educates the tongue muscles. Children under eight years may not require expander. The next steps in alignment are often long-term retainers are not needed, which is another advantage to a healthier body, not having foreign substances holding teeth long term against muscle dysfunction, unlike braces, is corrected in the treatment. There is not many complications in this technique but the doctors need to educate the patients in understanding the therapy because it is their job to work closely with the appliances till the desired results are achieved. This is not complex but if it is not done trained properly the result may be poor.
