The condition by which the gums recede from the surface of the tooth exposing the root is known as receding gums. In addition to red or swollen gums this condition can cause bad breath, bleeding especially after brushing the teeth and loose teeth.
HOW IS RECEDING GUMS DIAGNOSED?
Receding Gums can be diagnosed by a dentist by conducting a physical examination. An instrument known as a probe would be used to measure gum pockets, which should be 1-3mm.
HOW IS RECEDING GUMS TREATED?
Treatment of gum recession depends on the underlying cause. If it is due to overactive brushing, the brushing method must be appropriately modified. Any inflammation or infection causing recession must be treated with anti-inflammatory medication. Plaque control is also effective in treating receding gums
