Menstruation is a healthy experience of a woman’s life, and it must come habitually every 28 days, for a period of 3-4 days without coagulating, and the blood loss should correspond to about a quarter of a cup. For a woman, menstrual cycle is a virtuous indicator of her overall wellbeing. Some women get irregular periods that appear at longer intervals, an unpredictable discrepancy in the duration of the cycle and the normal twenty-eight day cycle is missing. Some women have very insignificant problems with menstrual cycles, while others experience a monthly torture.

Irregular menses is typical in early puberty and not generally perturbing. Women should be alarmed when periods are spaced out for more than two months, as this may suggest hormonal imbalance and ovulation problems. A woman’s customary hormonal cycle is contingent upon a subtle equilibrium between different hormones. Several potential triggers can stimulate hormonal imbalance leading to irregular menses. If a woman fails to ovulate, her ovaries will not receive a signal to produce a hormone called progesterone. Progesterone is essential in regulating the Uterine lining called endometrium, which is discarded during menstruation. Without progesterone, the endometrium persistently grows until it starts to break down and is disposed off as a very heavy uterine bleeding. The endometrium may also shed partially and intermittently, and bleeding becomes irregular or prolonged.

Causes of Irregular Menses:

Symptoms of Irregular Menses:

  • Inconsistency in the length of menstrual cycle.

  • Acne.

  • Bloating.

  • Low energy levels.

  • Sore breasts.

  • Fever.

  • Chills.

  • Changes in sexual desire.

The menses of Pulsatilla, besides being scanty, are quite apt to appear too late. 
  2. Caulophyllum: This is a valuable remedy in treating irregular periods, difficulty becoming pregnant or slow childbirth due to weak muscle tone of the uterus. The patient feels menstrual discomfort with heavy bleeding and drawing pains in the pelvic region, thighs, and legs. These patients complain of habitual abortion due to uterine debility.
  3. Cimicifuga Racemosa: This remedy is intended for irregular and painful menses, with shooting pains that go down the hips and thighs, or cramps similar to labor-pains that are felt in the pelvic area. Women become restless, fearful, and depressed before a menstrual period. These women are strong, talkative, depressed, they try to injure themselves, and have dreams of impending evil, with fear of riding in a closed carriage.
  4. Lachesis: This remedy is suggested to women who are passionate, with a tremendous need for an outlet, both physically and mentally. The menstrual flow is irregular, heavy and brings relief of tension. These patients are very outspoken with strong feelings of suspicion or jealousy. They have an intolerance of restrictive clothing around the waist or neck.
  5. Lycopodium: This is an outstanding remedy for delayed menses that follows a heavy flow lasting more days. These patients have a ravenous appetite with a strong craving for sweets. They complain of abdominal bloating and flatulence, and always have a worried look with lack of confidence, though they may be bossy with their family.
  6. Murex Purpurea: This remedy works amazingly in Irregular Menstruation with large clots and feeling of protrusion. These patients feel very weak, are very conscious of a womb, and feel as if something is pressing on a sore spot in the pelvis. This sore feeling is worse on sitting, hence the patient always sits with legs tightly crossed. Least contact of parts causes violent sexual excitement in these women.
  7. Secale Cornutum: This is a useful remedy for Irregular menses in thin, shriveled skinned women. Their whole body is pervaded by a sense of great heat and they have burning pains in the uterus. Menses is irregular, dark and at times, there is continous oozing of watery blood until the next period. Their pregnancy concludes in a threatened abortion in the third month
  8. Sepia: This remedy is best suited to women who feel weary and dragged-out, and are indifferent to their own family members. She feels taken for granted and overworked, becomes irritable and sarcastic if demands are made. Menses is delayed with a feeling that the pelvic floor is weak, or as if the uterus is sagging.

Self-care measures for Irregular Menses:

  • Relax and ease stress.

  • Avoid exhausting physical exercise.

  • Eliminate any eating disorders.

  • Eat a balanced diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • Reduce your intake of salt and caffeine.

infections within uterus are the most common cause of repeated miscarriages next most common cause is anemia and general weakness next cause is mouth of uterus being less elastic to keep closed for 9 months. it opens before time resulting in miscarriages luckily there's treatment available for all of above get investigation done through reputed doctors of your area.

I'm 18 years old and suffering from pcos since 4 years . I ws on medications but it didn't work out. It only showed temporary results. So I thought to give a try to natural remedies. While searching I got to know apple cider vinegar, cinnamon, licorice , flaxseed, fenugreek and other stuffs. And avoid dairy and soy products. So I want to know whether these things are really beneficial for curing pcos and hairfall caused due to it? Also can you please list out what should I eat and avoid. And should I consider these remedies? Can you suggest what test should I do to check hormone level.

Hello, lybrate-user, foods that you have mentioned, are all healthy and nutritious foods items. You may add them in your diet, but you have to know how and how much. And this brings you to the point where you wanted to know what you can eat and avoid. To suppress pcos you need to maintain your body weight. And to do that you need a customized diet chart that will prescribe you what to eat, how and how much, according to your height, weight, body functions and physical activity. Hence I would like to recommend you to consult with a dietician personally or online. And as per the tests you can do prolactin test.

I'm asking this question on behalf of my wife and child. Our baby is three months old and she is facing a nipple confusion due to which my wife is facing a low BM. We had our daughter on July. It was a c-section delivery. After tat our daughter was admitted in NICO for 5 days due to bilirubin. He's health became complicated and she lost weight. My wife was breastfeeding her but prid was not gaining much weight. So our pediatrician advised us to get her to bottle milk. (Similac advanced stage 1). Pls advice. What can be done to make sure our baby is breastfeeding again and is it possible to increase the BM. Cause she is really stressed and worried about the baby's health.

If you have sex when she is in 12th-16th day of menses (when menses started is counted as first day), and she has not taken pills, chances of her getting pregnant are very high. If it is 8th-11thday of 17th-20th day of menses pregnancy may or may not occur. Risk is there. If it is1st to 7th day or 21st to 28th day of her menses, there are no chances of her getting pregnant. In future use safe period 1st to 7th day of menses or 21st to 28th day of menses if she has 28 days cycle.(if she has 26 or 30 days cycle calculations would change). If do have intercourse from 8th day to 20th day, use condom or today or i-pill.

Appetite:
This must always be under control. Over eating is just unnecessary fat for the body and insufficient eating will cause your metabolism to slow down.

Body goals:
In your mind you must have a certain goal which you want to attain drop 10 kg's, beach body, fat stomach, bigger biceps they're all part of your body goals.

Diet:
Make sure your diet contains enough green leafy veggies, lean protein, carbohydrates and a certain amount of fat. Even the occasional dessert and cheat meal should be incorporated in your diet.

Exercise:
No matter how often you eat right, how many hours of sleep you get and whether or not you count calories, until and unless your exercise daily you'll never be able to have a totally healthy lifestyle.

Frequency:
The first step towards a long term healthy lifestyle is frequency. It takes 21 days to form a habit, after that it seems just natural. You need to be frequent and consistent to attain such long term goals.

Green tea:
It helps boost the metabolic rate, reduce the belly fat and can lower the risk of various diseases. Try to drink at least 3-5 cups of green tea every day. Plus its 0 calories, so what's the harm?

If this has happened for the first time, then there is no need to worry and no need for any medicines also. Sometimes because of hormonal changes or stress or weight gain such things happen. If this is recurring again and again then you should get ultrasound with hormonal tests and then 3 months course of medicines will help you get beck to normal menstrual flow.

With the abnormality n the baby it is imp to get a karyotype study of both partners as it can rpt in the next preg it us advisable not to try to conceive till the issue is resolved and it will be about 6-8 mths as you cionceive pl see agyn to get babys tests done with usg and doublr/quadruple marker.
