Add ghee generously if tolerated to increase the calorie value of diet. In compare to protein and carbohydrate calorie value of fat is thrice. Give at least one katori serving at a time of- mashed roti/bread/biscuit mixed in sweetened undiluted milk or mashed roti/rice/bread/dosa mixed with thick dal with added ghee/oil or khichadi with added ghee. Add cooked vegetables in the servings. You can also give dalia/suji ka halwa/kheer prepared in milk or any cereal porridge cooked in milk. You can give mashed boiled potato also. Give banana, papaya, cheeko, mango to meet the vitamin's requirement. Give these servings 3 times per day. Feed the baby in your lap with your hands. Don't force. YOUR NEWBORN WEEK BY WEEK Newborn Finally, your big moment came…and your little baby came out! Here's a glimpse at your newborn's first week of life. 1 Week Old Baby How can such a little thing make such a big noise? Aside from crying, here's what your newborn is up to in his second week of life. 2 Week Old Baby She may be tiny, but your little bundle of joy sure can eat a lot. Feed me, Mommy! 3 Week Old Baby Your baby's not trying to torture you with all that crying -- he's just trying to tell you something. 4 Week Old Baby Are you talking to me? Yes, she is — and your babbling baby wants you to talk back! 5 Week Old Baby Break out the camera (as if you haven't already!) and capture those first real smiles for posterity — or at least to show to Grandma. 6 Week Old Baby Look what my fingers can do! That might be what your baby is cooing to herself as she test-drives those powerful tools attached to her hands. 7 Week Old Baby Smiles and sounds abound as your baby soaks up stimuli and lets you know he loves the world around him. YOUR BABY MONTH BY MONTH 1 Month Old Baby From newborn reflexes and sleep to things to do with baby, what you need to prepare for the first month. 2 Month Old Baby You might be pretty (ok, very) tired these days but one look at that little gummy grin makes it all worthwhile. 3 Month Old Baby So much has happened in so little time! Your baby has gotten a whole lot bigger and his brain power is increasing every day, too! 4 Month Old Baby Plenty of parents consider the next few months to be the golden age of babyhood, and for good reason. 5 Month Old Baby Peek-a-boo, I see you! Get ready to play this classic and other hide-and-seek games as your baby starts to catch on to the fun. 6 Month Old Baby Your baby is halfway to a year already! Watch for skills (and the desire to use them) to grow by leaps and bounds now. 7 Month Old Baby I like that song, mommy! Sing it again…and again…and again… 8 Month Old Baby At this age, those little critters are itching to bust a move so set'em down and watch'em go! 9 Month Old Baby If it seems like some of your baby's adorable sounds are starting to sound like actual words, they are! 10 Month Old Baby With so much ground to cover, your energizer bunny is probably more interested in exploring than eating these days. 11 Month Old Baby If there's trouble to be found, chances are your little one is on the hunt!

Just make sure your paediatrician follows the growth chart n rule out any family history of diabetes n other concerns. If already done then we can wait n watch. Breast feeding is another reason for good weight which your paediatrician would monitor each time you see them.

1. A child will not sleep through the night i. E it will wake up a few times at night when it is breastfeeding. This is natural, so do not worry so much. Continue breastfeeding till he is a year old and then slowly wean him off. He will have a good nights sleep once he is off breast feed 2. For dinner - for a 9 month old, well cooked rice with well cooked mashed vegetables is a great dinner option. Millet's are great too. You can use it instead of rice, but please give a test dose to ensure that it suits your child. Vegetables are rich in fiber so that will keep him full 3. The time for dinner depends on his bedtime. If he sleeps at ten then you should give him the last solid by 9 pm 4. Avoid sugar or any sugar based products after 7pm. Sugar tends to give instant energy and thus causes delayed and disturbed sleep in children.

Using baby soaps by adults is advisable or not in order to maintain a soft and bright skin.
There is no standard guidelines for use of baby soap in adults. Baby soaps are having less chemicals to protect babies. They will not maintain soft and bright skin. Use of moisteriser and sunsreen may help you to maintain soft and bright skin.

Hello we have to check the height, weight, and other growth parameters of your child to find if cause is organic. If every thing is normal you can try some appetizers like cyproheptadine for short period.

MD - Paediatrics

Gas formation may be due to maldigestion of some particular food item. Its best to avoid such identified food items. If not possible them digestive enzymes or simethicone after foods might help.

My baby 4 days old, and as per child doctor his CRB counts is 22ooo so doctor told baby is blood infected, so please ...
A C-reactive protein (CRP) test is a blood test that measures the amount of a protein called C-reactive protein in your blood. C-reactive protein measures general levels of inflammation in your body. High levels of CRP are caused by infections and many long-term diseases. But a CRP test cannot show where the inflammation is located or what is causing it. Other tests are needed to find the cause and location of the inflammation.. baby will need antibiotics and supportive treatment and as he is in NICU , you need not worry

Thalassemia in Children - 4 Ways to Treat it!

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Jaipur
Thalassemia in Children - 4 Ways to Treat it!

Thalassemia is a type of a disease, resulting in the abnormal production of hemoglobin in the blood. Hemoglobin stimulates oxygen circulation all over the body. Therefore, a dip in the hemoglobin count can lead to anemia, a disease inducing weakness as well as fatigue. Acute anemia can take a toll on the organs and ultimately cause death.

Severe thalassemia in children yields symptoms, such as dark urine, abdominal swelling, slow growth, jaundice, a pale appearance and deformed skull bones. Diarrhea, frequent fevers and eating disorders are also common.

Treatment:

  1. Blood transfusions: Regular blood transfusion is the only treatment needed for beta thalassemia aiming to keep sufficient Hb level to avoid long-term complications, though bone marrow transplant is radical cure for the disease.
  2. Iron chelation therapy: The hemoglobin in the red blood cells is rich in iron-protein that gets deposited in the blood with regular blood transfusion. This condition is known as iron overload as it damages heart, liver and various parts of the body. Iron chelation therapy is used to prevent this damage as it helps to remove the excess iron from the body.  Deferoxamine and Deferasirox are two such medicines used for this therapy.
  3. Folic acid supplements: Folic acid being a B vitamin produces healthy red blood cells and is therefore recommended as a substitute for the above procedures.
  4. Transplant of blood and marrow stem cell: A blood and a marrow (a substance within the cavities of bones where blood cells are produced) transplant replaces the faulty stem cells with healthy ones contributed by a donor.

How to Dry and Comb Your Baby's Hair?

How to Dry and Comb Your Baby's Hair?

How to Dry Baby's Hair?

Baby towels often have a hood attached to it that can be used to gently blot your baby's hair. Do not rub as the baby's hairs are fine and very delicate and vulnerable to damage. Also, never try to blow-dry a baby's hair, as babies' skin is very much sensitive than an adult's skin and can be very easily burnt. Their hair also dries very fast on its own.

How to Comb Baby's Hair?

Comb your baby's hair with a soft-bristle brush or a tooth brush that won't snag on tangles or pull your baby's hair. Avoid headbands or ponytails, as they pull your baby's hair back too tight, which can damage hair.

Cradle Cap-Should I worry?

Cradle cap refers to the fleshy, red flakes on the scalp of baby. This is not harmful but some may be bothered by it.  Before a bath, massage  a little bit of coconut oil  into your baby's scalp to loosen the dry skin. Gently rub the oil into your baby's scalp with a ultra soft brush or wash cloth to release the flakes. Always wash your baby's hair with a gentle baby shampoo. Cradle cap should get better on its own. If it sticks around or spreads to the face of baby, or neck or other parts of the body, you should see your doctor.

What Oil should I Apply on My Baby's Hair?

Many new parents try to apply baby oil in the newborns scalp under the impression that it will lead to hair growth. This is a biggest misconception. Baby oil actually causes dryness of the scalp and clogs the pores of the head. Often the cause of cradle cap in babies is the usage of the baby oil. For healthy hair growth it would suffice coconut oil is applied onto your infant's hair and scalp.

When should I Plan the First Haircut?

There is no particular set time for a first haircut as it will not harm hair growth of the baby. Whenever you feel your child needs a trim, you should go ahead and get it done.

Why my Baby has Bald Spots? What Should I Do?

Sometimes babies have bald spots on their head because children lie in the supine position most of the time. Encourage the "tummy time" when your baby is awake, to allow their head to round out and prevent bald patches.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a specilized dermatologist and ask a free question.

Night Time Cough - 5 Tips to Manage it

MBBS

Night Time Cough - 5 Tips to Manage it

Coughing during the night can really wreak havoc for your sleep and cause inexplicable discomfort in the throat and chest region. Thankfully, you can manage it by soothing your tickling throat as well as sensitive airways before you go to bed at night.

  1. Drink herbal tea: A mugful of non-caffeinated tea mixed with a teaspoon of honey before going to bed can help you to a considerable extent. This is because any warm liquid has the power to break down the formation of mucus in the throat region and with a bit of honey, the herbal tea becomes even more powerful.
  2. Try to sleep in an inclining position: Gravity is your greatest enemy while combating night-time cough. When you lie down flat on your back at night, all the mucus and dust particles, which you have swallowed all through the day, would accumulate in the throat area and aggravate it making more cough. But you can easily defy gravitational force by piling up some pillows and prop yourself on them while sleeping. You may also keep a wooden block of 4 inches height under your head, which would keep the acids in the stomach so that they don’t come up to irritate your throat.
  3. Make sure you use the steam cautiously: When your airways are dry, it can make you cough harder. Therefore, you may find relief if you take a warm shower or a bath before going to bed. But you have to be sure that you don’t have asthma as steam can prove harmful for you.
  4. Check the level of humidity: Humidifiers are known to soothe the problem of persistent coughing when the surrounding air is dry. But too much of moisture during the night can also make you cough. This is because dust mites, mold and other allergens thrive well in the damp air and they could conspire to make your cough even worse. So, pick up a cheap hygrometer from a hardware store and see that the humidity level stays within 40 to 50 percent.
  5. Equip yourself at night: Keep all the things from drops to water to cough syrup or anything that soothes coughing at your bedside so that you can help yourself in case you wake up in the middle of the night and start coughing.

By following these few tips every day, you can manage the night time cough and have a good night’s sleep without any interruptions. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

I have 4 months baby. I m breastfeeding my baby. As someone told me that the breastfeeding mother shouldn't sleep on her back as the milk should go back and there will be no milk for breastfeed. Is it truth?

BPTh/BPT

I have 4 months baby. I m breastfeeding my baby. As someone told me that the breastfeeding mother shouldn't sleep on ...
Conditional, breastfeeding mothers need to change positions while they are not feeding. They can sleep according to their comfort. However, when they are feeding then they need to lay side se side position some mothers, particularly larger breasted women, find they will need to roll themselves and their baby over to their other side to feed from the second breast, whilst others will find that once they have fed from the lower breast they can just lean forward and feed from the top breast without changing sides. If you do choose the second alternative you will need to make sure that the lower breast is well drained before switching to the upper breast so that blockages in the milk ducts to not occur.
