How does this medication work?
This medication is a calcium channel blocker. It works by inhibiting the entry of calcium into the cardiac and vascular smooth muscles and prevents the contraction of the muscles and thereby reduces the blood pressure. Metoprolol blocks beta receptors sites in the heart, blood vessels, and lungs. This results in inhibition of epinephrine resulting in relaxed blood vessels. Thus pressure is lowered and blood flow to the heart is improved. Telmisartan displaces angiotensin II with very high affinity from its binding site at the AT1 receptor subtype, which is responsible for the known actions of angiotensin II
