Unnatural hair growth on chin. Has been increasing even after pregnancy. Anyway to stop it?
This is called Hirsutism. Do USG n Hormonal reports to rule out PCOD. If you diagnosed as a PCOD, Homeopathic treatment is best for it.

I have desk job in last 4 year. I have heavy weight. I want to loose it please help me.
Natural way of weight loss is by routine exercise like walking, running, yoga and healthy diet which contains boiled vegetables, more fiber, low carbohydrate and fatty food. Medicines work temporarily. Skipping meals will not help.

Spine Degeneration - How Neurosurgery Can Help?

MBBS, MCh, MS

Spine Degeneration - How Neurosurgery Can Help?

The spine is one of the most delicate bones of the body. It literally supports the entire body and helps us walk upright. Any damage or degeneration of the same can lead to dire consequences ranging from pain to paralysis. Spine degeneration is something that progresses over time and does not happen overnight. The normal structure of the disc will be gradually lost in such cases, and there may even be changes in the vertebrae.

The discs may start thinning slowly, which will lead to posture and other issues like pain and weakness. These problems may happen due to old age, arthritis, accidents which may have rendered some damage to the spine, as well as neurological problems where the nerves may get pressed due to an outgrowth or a bulging disc.

Here are the facts that you need to know about spine degeneration related to neurosurgery-

Spinal Stenosis: This is a condition where the spinal canal becomes progressively narrow which may further lead to many problems. In such cases, the spinal cord and the nerves around it tend to get pressed and pinched, which causes significant pain. This may happen due to several reasons including old age which changes the structure of the spinal cord, and other issues such as spinal herniation which causes the growth from the spine. It can also happen due to problems like osteoporosis or the existence of a tumor.

Symptoms: This congenital condition can affect the entire lunar area as well as the shoulders and the neck. It can also lead to painful sensations in the legs and lower regions. Many patients also complain of the loss of bowel control in extreme conditions.

Causes: The stiffening of the invertebral joint leads to the growth of a bony structure. This is known as an osteophyte formation which can lead to spondylitis. There are chances of people as young as 35 years of age, experiencing such a problem. These kinds of issues directly affect the nerves and cause pain in various areas of the body.

Treatment: In such cases, a laminectomy procedure or a de-roofing surgery will be required so that the bony outgrowth may be sliced off, for better recovery of the patient. This will also prevent the nerves from getting affected or pressed, which in turn helps in leading a more normal existence. The success rate is quite high for this kind of surgery, as per myriad medical reports and studies. Yet, it is not entirely suitable for older patients who have other complications.

Other Methods of Treatment: In many cases, the patient may be required to go through other forms of physiotherapy so as to deal with the issue. The patients may also be given epidural injections that have steroids so as to deal with the pain. This is also one of the most preferred methods of managing chronic lumbar area pain which is caused due to herniation and nerve pressing. Electronic stimulation methods such as a neuro modulation with the help of decompression and fusion may also be followed in such cases.

I am 62 years male, have psoriasis only on both hands mainly on sides n undersides of fingers for past 1 year. Small cracks form n heal in a day or two. Hv bn applying skin creams n sorifix cream. Need help.

I am 62 years male, have psoriasis only on both hands mainly on sides n undersides of fingers for past 1 year. Small ...
Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease characterised by well defined erythematous scaly plaques with silvery white or candle wax type of scaling. Chronic plaque psoriasis is the most common type. It can affect sites like scalp, arms, and legs, (specifically elbows and knees), palms and soles etc. Other types of psoriasis are: Erythrodermic psoriasis, Pustular psoriasis (generalised and localised), Nail psoriasis and Scalp psoriasis. There are various precipitating factors for psoriasis: Infections (sore throat, dental infections etc), drugs (b-blockers used for hypertension), pregnancy, winters (psoriasis becomes worse in winters), stress, alcohol intake and cigarette smoking, topical irritants like coal tar, salicylic acid and withdrawal of oral/ topical steroids etc. The disease has a chronic course and there topical creams/ointments/gels/lotions etc as well as oral and injectable medicines which can treat psoriasis but there is no permanent cure for psoriasis. For limited disease involving < 20% of BSA, Topical treatment alone suffices: -Moisturisers specially those which contain hygroscopic (attract water from the atmosphere and lock it into the skin) and keratoloytic agents like Ammonium lactate (Amylac cream), Urea, Lactic acid etc are especially useful in dry scaly conditions like psoriasis. -For the patches you could use a steroid+salicylic acid ointment, twice daily (clobetasol+3% OR 6% salicylic acid in an ointment base e.g propysalic NF Ointment) over and above the moisturiser for 4 weeks. -Other treatment modalities which can be used for localized plaque psoriasis are: Vitamin D analogues like calcipotriol, calcipotriene alone or in combination with steroid. For extensive psoriasis (involving more than 20% of BSA) oral as well as topical treatment is combined together: -Once weekly oral methotrexate is another option in case of plaque psoriasis but it should always be taken under the supervision of a dermatologist since it can rarely cause serious side effects like bone marrow suppression. -Oral cyclosporine is given for extensive psoriasis involving more than 20% of the body surface area. It is rapidly effective but it requires monitoring of kidney functions and BP. Other commonly used oral treatment modalities are: -Oral Psoralens e.g 8-methoxypsoralen and UV A phototherapy (PUVA) -Narrow-Band phototharapy (NB-UVB) -Biologics response modifiers (Etanercept, Infliximab, Adalimumab etc) To summarize, in limited psoriasis only topical agents are used, whereas if the disease involves >20% body surface area, it is better to combine both topical and oral therapies. I would suggest that you see a dermatologist and have a fair discussion regarding the most appropriate treatment modalities for you.
