Itchy eyes home remedy

When you start to have a feeling or sensation of picking or scratching at your eyes then you should know that you might be suffering from an itchy eye problem but you should not be worried about this as this condition is a very common problem and the scientific name for this problem is given as ocular pruritus. This common issue of  itchy eye problems is generally caused by any kind of dry eye syndrome or because of any kind of allergy. This problem can also occur to your eyelids, at the base of your eyelashes and swollen eyes and this is the condition of itchy eyelids. 

The treatment of this issue of itchy eye problem is treated very significantly when you are aware about the causative factor of the problem and this will help you to find the most effective treatment for yourself. For instance, if the problem is caused because of an allergy so to get rid  of this problem you will have to get rid of the trigger of the allergy which is the cause of your allergy and this will help you to manage this issue of itchy eyes effectively.

There are so many reasons that can lead you to suffer from this condition of itchy eyes among which allergy is considered as the most common reason for the cause of this condition and allergy is known to be triggered easily by an eyedrop, pollen, makeup, animal dur, mites or dust particles but there are some other specific causes of itchy eyes and they are listed below: 

  • Various allergic condition which might include vernal keratoconjunctivitis (swelling of the surface of the eye), conjunctivitis and atopic conjunctivitis (this condition arises because of a genetic problem and leads to the swelling of the surface of the eye) can lead to itchy eyes
  • Blepharitis (it is an inflammation of the eyelids)
  • Eczema (it is the roughing and swelling of the skin)
  • You might get irritation because of the exposure of your eyes to certain harmful chemicals which might include gases and smoke 
  • This could happen as a reaction to various medications for instance, medicines such as antihistamines (this drug is used for the treatment of allergies), pain killers, birth control pills and antidepressants
  • The contact lens could lead to certain different kind of infections
  • Dry eye syndrome ( this condition arises when your body is unable to produce enough tears to keep the surface of your eye m moist and comfortable) could lead you to this problem 

There are so many symptoms and signs that you might notice and consider them as the start of the problem of itchy eyes and some of the symptoms are listed below: 

  • Swollen eyes and eyelids
  • Irritation
  • Burning sensation

There are so many treatment options available in the market to help you to get rid of this problem of itchy eye but when you use medicine which are made up of chemicals can lead you various infections as this problem arises by the consumption of medicines like antihistamines, so to avoid any kind of problems you will be able to get through this problem by following some easy and basic home remedies and some of them are listed below and these will help you to relieve yourself of the problem: 

  • Aparajita or clitoria leaves: For the significant application of this you will have to make a paste of the aparajita flowers along with milk and then, you will have to apply it over the eyes when they are closed and this will help you to get past conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis is considered as a common cause for this condition of itchy eyes and this paste which is made has certain anti inflammatory properties as well which is responsible for the reduction of the swelling and inflammation of the eyes.
  • Muli (The green leaves of radish): For the application of this remedy you will be asked to pick out fresh leaves of radish and prepare a juice out of it. Then, consume the juice as this juice is considered very beneficial for the treatment of itchy eyes and helps in maintaining better eye health. It is also in relieving the person from the burning sensation he experiences in the eyes and also the itching in the eyes.
  • Chandan or sandalwood: This substance of sandalwood has anti-inflammatory properties (which is helpful in the reduction of th swelling). This will help you significantly in dealing with any kind of eye infections which might lead you to experience this condition of itchy eyes. You can also use this as decoction for yourself and after cooling down the decoction, use this to wash your eyes as well.
  • Punarnava leaves or hogweed: Make a very fine paste of the leaves of punarnava leaves and then you will have to apply this finely made paste over your closed eyes, after the application of this paste over your eyes you will start experiencing a cooling sensation on your eyes which will be very helpful and effective in improving the itching and irritation experienced in the eyes. Punarnava leaves are also very helpful and effective in the management of any kind of eye disease or infection. If you drink the juice made from the leaves of punarnava, you can use it topically on your eyes to manage various diseases, one of them is conjunctivitis and this leads to the cause of itchiness.

Conclusion

This condition of itchy eyes is very common and this mainy happens because of the allergic reactions in the eye and sometimes it could happen because of the dry eye syndrome. When you will get rid of the allergen that has led to the itchiness in the eye then it is considered that you have got rid of the problem of itchiness as well and this is the best way to get yourself relieved of this problem of itchy eyes. 

Whatsoever, for this condition and the treatment of this problem should only proceed after the consultation with a doctor for a better treatment plan and what will work better for you. Above mentioned home remedies can help you to relieve yourself of the pain and irritation that you are experiencing but when these home remedies are not found to be helpful at all and the symptoms do not seem to get better or improve you will have to contact or consult with your health provider as soon as possible.
