Burning feet is a very common condition that your grandparents or your parents complain a lot about and you should not be ignorant about this condition of burning feet. A lot of people may think that this problem is completely harmless but you should be attentive towards this problem as its occurrence could be possible because of an underlying medical condition.

This syndrome of burning feet is also referred to as Grierson-Gopalan Syndrome and apart from this condition being a common problem it has a very little history of medical assistance so it is advised to be very attentive in the treatment of this problem.

This condition of burning feet is characterized by the heavy and burning sensation or feelings in your legs, this can also arise due to so many unrelated medical problems or conditions, further the heat and the pain experienced is not only limited to sole of the feet and this problem can spread to other parts of the feet and leg as well which can be the top of the feet, ankle and also various points of your lower leg.

So when you experience any kind of pain or burning sensation in these areas you should not misunderstand it with something else.

Cause of burning feet

The cause for this condition of burning condition can vary a lot and some of the most common reasons for the arise of this condition or syndrome are listed below: 

  • Underlying medical condition: This condition of burning feet is majorly experienced by those individuals who are having various kinds of metabolic issues or disorders for instance diabetes, any kind of damage to the nerves present in the area of your feet, etc. This condition is also observed in people who are going through or suffering from various kinds of thyroid disorders and commonly, hypothyroidism in this condition there is observed a reduced production of the thyroid hormone.
  • Nutritional causes: You can start experiencing this condition of burning feet when you are suffering from a deficiency of a nutrient namely the vitamin which in particular of the B complex groups and when it is further specified it found to be deficiency of riboflavin leads to this condition. This can also arise because of bad absorption of the nutrients as observed in the malabsorption syndrome.
  • Psychological causes: This is also seen that a person suffering from any kind of psychological disorder could be experiencing or develop this syndrome of burning feet.
  • Hereditary causes: In some rare cases, people have observed or noticed that this syndrome of burning feet has been passed down from generation to generation which means it has hereditary nature as well. Therefore, when anyone in your family is suffering from this syndrome there is a possibility that you can also suffer from this problem in future.
  • Mechanical causes: When there occurs a compression of any nerve or there is an entrapment of it in between bones, muscles, etc, then you are on the verge of experiencing a burning feet. This condition is also observed in medical problems like spinal arteriovenous malformation, tarsal tunnel syndrome and sciatic mononeuropathy.

Home remedies for burning feet

There are a lot of remedies available which can help you to get relieved of the pain, discomfort and suffering from this medical condition of burning feet syndrome but some of the easiest and the most effective home remedies are listed below: 

  • Epsom salts: This is known to be a natural source of a compound named magnesium sulfate and this salt is generally used by the people when they are taking a foot bath and you can also use this by adding a little amount of it in water and then you can soak your feet in it for a few minutes on a regular basis.
  • Ice bath or cold water: You can soak your feet in cold water to get yourself relieved from this problem for a temporary period, this remedy is known to get you relieved of the pain and the sensation of burning. Apart from this process of soaking your feet in cold water you are advised to drink an adequate amount of cold water as well and this will also prove to be very helpful and effective.
  • Ginger: Ginger has been known to possess a lot of medicinal properties and is brought in application in the field of application. The extract of ginger is found to be soluble in water and in oil as well and it is also observed that when this is applied on the skin it gets absorbed readily into it. This substance ginger gets its pain relieving effect from the anti-inflammatory properties and it can be used effectively to help a person get relieved from this problem of burning feet and has so many positive effects because of the anti-inflammatory properties of the ginger.
  • Ginkgo: This is a herb and has been found to have a lot of protective properties for the nerves of your body and it is also found to have positive effect in the treatment of various medical conditions like dementia and focal cerebral ischemia (a condition in which there is observed a decreased flow of blood to other parts of the body from the brain). This action of nerve protection of this herb ginkgo is because of its various properties which include enzyme inhibiting, anti-inflammatory and antioxidative. This herb can also help you to get relieved of this problem of burning feet as it is associated with the damaging of peripheral nerves.
  • Apple cider vinegar: You can use this substance by adding it into warm water and then you can soak your feet in this solution and this will surely help you get relieved of the pain and discomfort caused by burning feet.
