Gastroparesis is a condition where the stomach is unable to empty the food digested on its own. Due to damage to the vagus nerve, there’s a restriction on the movement of food. The common symptoms here include nausea, burning sensation in the stomach and throat, bloating of the abdominal area, feeling full after eating a little and weight loss.
HOW IS GASTROPARESIS DIAGNOSED?
Diagnosis of the same is done by a gastroenterology expert who would do an ultrasound, Gastric manometry, Barium X-ray or even upper endoscopy.
HOW IS GASTROPARESIS TREATED?
Treatment for the same includes Reglan (metoclopramide) taken before eating, Erythromycin given post eating along with other Antiemetics that are basically drugs for controlling the nausea. The combination of these drugs along with lifestyle and diet changes helps in treating the same.
