Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by any type of Candida (type of yeast). Depending on the area it affects, it is referred to by different names. When it affects the mouth it is called thrush; when it affects the vagina it is called yeast infection. Symptoms are: redness, itching, discomfort, blisters and pustules may also occur. Severe complications may be fatal if left untreated.
HOW IS CANDIDIASIS DIAGNOSED?
General physician or Ear, nose, throat surgeon will make the diagnosis by having a complete history and full body examination. Candidiasis is usually a clinically diagnosed condition. In severe cases, blood tests and scraping tests for fungi from the affected are also done.
HOW IS CANDIDIASIS TREATED?
Regular washing and hygienic habits are crucial for treating Candidiasis at home. Also, the doctor may prescribe an antifungal cream or powder that can be applied on the affected area. Antibiotics can also help in curing the infection by hindering the growth and spread of the virus.
