Mephentermine

Prescription vs OTC : Prescription by Doctor required

About Mephentermine

Mephentermine is mainly used to steady blood pressure levels in hypotensive states, for instance, following spinal anesthesia. It is a sympathomimetic agent with mainly indirect effects on adrenergic receptors.

Although the central stimulant effects of this medicine are much less than those of amphetamine, its continued use may lead to amphetamine-type dependence. Some categories of the active ingredient of this medication are adrenergic agents, adrenergic agonists, cardiac stimulants excl. cardiac glycosides, cardiac therapy, Phentermine, sympathomimetics, vasoconstrictor agents.

This medicine is an alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist, but it also works indirectly by releasing endogenous norepinephrine. Cardiac output and systolic and diastolic pressures are usually increased. A change in heart rate is variable, depending on the degree of vagal tone. Sometimes the net vascular effect may be vasodilation. Large doses may depress the myocardium or produce effects in the central nervous system.

Inform your doctor about all the medication you are on as well as all your allergies to foods and medications (herbal or homoeopathic) as well as your full medical history. The effect of Mephentermine on pregnant women is unknown so far. Using the medicine in larger doses by pregnant women may affect the unborn baby.
