This medication is a type of hormone therapy used for treating oestrogen- receptor-positive breast cancers in postmenopausal women. Androgens are often converted into oestrogen in menopausal women which in turn lead breast cancer growth. Aromatase enzyme leads to this oestrogen synthesis. The active constituent of this medicine belongs to a class of anti-oestrogen known as an aromatase inhibitor. Therefore, it binds to the enzyme and prevents androgen from being converted into oestrogen.
