About Carpine 0.5% Injection

Carpine 0.5% Injection is a medication used for the treatment of increase in eye pressure and dryness in the mouth caused due to damage of salivary gland damage, radiation therapy or Sjogren’s syndrome. The drug is used as an eye drop in case of glaucoma, and to regulate the constriction and dilation of pupils.

Before beginning the dose of Carpine 0.5% Injection, it is important to consult the doctor especially if you have a history of serious respiratory disorders like asthma, bronchitis, cardiac problems, eye diseases like night blindness or any chronic abdominal disorders like gastrointestinal problems.

The drug increases the production of sweat and saliva; therefore it is very important to remain hydrated throughout the day. There are some usual side effects which may include headaches, nausea, slight dizziness, increased urination, chills, runny nose, cough and mucous congestion, some joint and muscle pain. The serious side effects which need medical attention are, change of voice, trouble in swallowing, swelling of joints, shortness of breath and change in heartbeat.

The elderly is more sensitive to the effects of the drug therefore sufficient precaution regarding the dosage is advised. It is best to avoid alcohol, or driving especially at night during the period of treatment due to the side effects that affect the vision and alertness.

    Carpine 0.5% Injection is a cholinergic(miotic) that works by activating muscarinic acetylcholine receptor proteins present in the eyes. This helps to reduce pressure in the eyes by opening the trabecular meshwork tissue and allowing the aqueous humor fluid to drain out.
