About Amylmetacresol

Amylmetacresol is an antiseptic used in the treatment of infections of the mouth and throat such as throat infection, throat discomfort, mouth infection and other related conditions. It is an active pharmaceutical ingredient in Strepsils, Cēpacol, Gorpils and Lorsept throat lozenges. It works by killing the bacteria that affects or grows during mouth and throat infections. Before taking this medication talk to your doctor about all the medication you are on as well as your medical history and all your allergies you have.

Some side effects include: swelling of the face which could happen either as an allergic reaction or as a side effect to taking too much than the prescribed dose. Another is having difficulty in breathing. When faced with these effects, its best to stop the dosage and or call your doctor. If after stopping you’re still experiencing these effects or if it worsens then you should immediately inform your doctor or healthcare personal who prescribed this medication. The dosage is usually based on your condition and direction of your doctor. It is advised to avoid more than 8 lozenges in 24 hours that contain Amylmetacresol.
