Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the best doctor for Anal fissure in Delhi?

A gastroenterologist (a doctor who focuses on digestive disorders) or a colon and rectal surgeon may be consulted if you have an anal fissure.

How can I find the best doctor for Anal fissure in Delhi?

You have been advised not to self-diagnose the disease condition. Anal fissures are easily diagnosed and treated by proctologists, general practitioners, colorectal doctors, gastroenterologists, general surgeons, and anorectal surgeons.

The following are some of the qualifications of medical professionals who can treat anal fissures:

  • MBBS
  • Graduate training in gastroenterology
  • Colorectal surgery, MD
  • General surgery (Colorectal), FRCS
  • Gastroenterology, FRCP
  • General Surgery, MS
  • General surgery, DNB
  • Colon and rectal surgery specialist
  • General surgery, FRCS
  • Surgery and gastroenterology DNB
  • Gastroenterology, DM

What is the fastest way to heal a fissure?

If the patient had to stop receiving GTN or if the fissure hadn't healed or appeared again, other treatments might be tried. Botulinum toxin injections (Botox or other brands) into the area around the anus (back passage) or a surgical procedure called a sphincterotomy are two of them. Both of these techniques help to relax the ring muscle (sphincter) and increase blood flow to the lining of the anus (the back passage). A cream or an ointment containing diltiazem hydrochloride may also be used. There is no approved medication for the treatment of chronic anal fissures in children, but it is occasionally used in them.

How can I treat a fissure at home?

Stool Baths

Sitz baths are essentially tiny plastic tubs, and they are typically sold in pharmacies. You put the tub on top of a toilet seat, fill it with a few inches of warm water, and then sit down on it so your anal area can soak.

Dietary Fiber

Adult males and females should consume at least 38 grams (g) and 25 grams (g) of fiber daily, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In the US, however, many adults typically fail in this endeavor.

Fiber-rich supplements

A fiber supplement may be helpful if your diet doesn't provide you with enough fiber. The common ingredients in psyllium, methylcellulose and polycarbophil fiber supplements come in a variety of forms.

Stool Softeners

Using a stool softener, which draws more water into the digestive tract to soften stool, may help you avoid constipation. They have few side effects and are generally regarded as safe. Laxatives and stool softeners are not the same thing.

Increasing Your Water Intake

Constipation can be exacerbated by dehydration or a lack of water in the body. Water consumption can keep stools soft and make them simpler to pass.

How long does an anal fissure take to heal?

Anal fissures typically mend on their own within a few weeks. However, if constipation that caused them is not addressed, they may easily return. Chronic anal fissures are when anal fissure symptoms last for six weeks or longer in a person.

Nonsurgical treatments

Your doctor might advise:

  • Nitroglycerin (Rectiv), which is applied externally, can help to relax the anal sphincter and promote healing by increasing blood flow to the fissure. When more conservative treatments don't work, nitroglycerin is typically the medication of choice. Headaches, which can be very bad, are possible side effects.
  • It may be beneficial to relieve pain with topical anesthetic creams like lidocaine hydrochloride (Xylocaine).
  • Anal sphincter muscle paralysis and spasm relief are achieved with injections of botulinum toxin type A (Botox).
  • The anal sphincter can be relaxed with the aid of blood pressure medications like diltiazem (Cardizem) and oral nifedipine (Procardia). When nitroglycerin is ineffective or has serious side effects, these medications may be applied topically or taken internally.

What is the main cause of the fissure?

Trauma to the anus and anal canal can result in anal fissures. Any one or more of the following factors could be the cause of the trauma:

  • Constipation that persists over time
  • struggling to go to the bathroom, particularly if the stool is large, hard, or dry
  • long-term diarrhea
  • Anal sex, anal stretching
  • Insertion of foreign objects into the anus

Other causes besides trauma include:

  • Longstanding poor bowel habits
  • The muscles that control the closure of the anus are known as the anal sphincter muscles
  • Angular anorectal scarring
  • Reduced blood flow to the anorectal region

Young infants and women who give birth frequently experience anal fissures

Can fissures heal naturally?

An anal fissure frequently heals by itself in a few weeks, just like other minor skin wounds or tears. However, if you have an anal fissure, you should visit a doctor because they can offer you guidance and medications to lessen your symptoms and help the fissure heal more quickly. Although they can easily occur again, especially if you ignore self-help advice, most anal fissures will heal with treatment.

Self-help techniques consist of:

  • Add more high-fiber foods to your diets, such as fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, to increase your daily intake of fiber
  • Drink plenty of water to ward off dehydration
  • Attempting to increase their exercise, for instance by daily walking or running
  • Deciding where and when they can go to the restroom without feeling uncomfortable
  • Not delaying going to the toilet when they feel the urge
