Hair Transplantation procedure and its advantages

Hello good morning. I am doctor Vijay Kakkar. I am a senior consultant in plastic surgery. Today we will be discussing something about Hair Transplant.

There are many myths and many ads in the market but what is hair transplant? Who should do it and who are doing it? What are the problems? Recently we have writer very sad news about the death during hair transplant.

So let us discuss what it is and who should do it and what are the precautions to be taken and not to get fleeced by people who are not qualified are competent to do this kind of surgeries. Basically in hair transplant we distribute the hairs that means you have permanent hair on the back of the scalp which we take it and then put it on the front to make it your hairline much younger and healthier.

So now in hair transplant there are two kinds of procedure-

One is FUE that is follicular unit extraction and FUT method.

FUT is a strip kind of method that is we take a strip from the back of the scalp from the permanent donor zone which these hair which we take are resistant to male hormones and put them on the front area so that they do not fall off and again extraction method is little different but putting the here is the same in both the techniques. In FUE we take out individual hairs. This is almost called a scarless surgery. All the ones we shave it off you can always see the small tiny dots of harvested hair.

Now there are two basic different people go most of the time after a FUE that we don't want a cut or we don't want a scar but we must understand if you want more hair then we have to go for FUT method only that is sticker strip. Because a strip gives a large volume of hair and if you take a strip then you can always go for a second session of FUE. While if you take FUE if you talk about permanent zone there are hardly 2000-2200 here in the permanent zone which we take at one go. If we are taking more than that that means we are going through a non permanent zone and these hair will fall off.

So we have to be careful about these issues and once we transplant hair then we have to take certain cares that initially in the beginning there is a little swelling, the little pain when doing we give good antibiotic and it has to be done in a good setup and clean and all surgical steps have to be followed because it is a surgical procedure and should be done with surgical Precision and should be done by either qualified Dermatologist who is qualified to do this kind of surgery and has been trained or preferably by a surgeon who are routinely trained in this kind of surgery and do it routinely.
