Bile Duct Cancer: Signs And Symptoms

Bile duct cancer is also known as Cholangiocarcinoma. It develops in the bile ducts that carry the digestive fluid. Very few cases have been reported of this form of cancer since it is not that common. Though it can affect people of any age, however, it is usually seen in people above the age of 50 years. Many people often confuse bile duct cancer with liver cancer but you must know that both of these are different forms of cancer.

You must also get familiar with the signs and symptoms of bile duct cancer so that the condition can be diagnosed sooner. Another important thing to note is that the symptoms of this cancer are caused usually because a bile duct is blocked.

Symptoms of bile duct cancer include:

Jaundice is one of the most common symptoms of this cancer. The blockage is caused in the bile because cancer severely affects the secretion of bilirubin and bile from the liver. An elevated level of bilirubin in the blood leads to Jaundice. However, many other factors can also contribute to Jaundice.

1. You will notice a drastic loss in your weight.

2. You will not feel like eating much, resulting in a loss of appetite.

3. Feeling nauseated or feverish is also a common sign.

4. There might be an increase in your abdominal mass.

5. Feeling bloated is also very common.

6. Change in the color of the stool and urine.

7. If cancer has reached an advanced stage then you may experience severe abdominal pain.

8. Too much itching can be a result of increased bilirubin (blood) reaching the skin.

In case you notice any of these above-mentioned symptoms then get in touch with your healthcare provider without delay.
