There are hundreds of people with obstructive sleep apnoea. Sleep apnoea is a condition where during sleep your breathing stops and starts. You will most likely snore and feel tired even after a night’s sleep.

CPAP therapy or continuous positive air pressure therapy is the most common treatment for this condition. Let’s look at its benefits –

1. Good for your heart

Sleeping disorders like sleep apnoea can cause cardiac problems like raising your blood pressure and making you susceptible to stroke. Using CPAP therapy regularly can reduce blood pressure – some people can even get rid of blood pressure medications altogether.

It will also reduce the chances of the following conditions –

2. Feel more energetic

CPAP therapy will increase your energy levels and reduce the harmful effects of sleep apnoea.

3. Your risk of stroke decreases

Sleep apnoea, as stated before, increases your risk of stroke. According to research conducted, CPAP therapy can help bring down the chances of a stroke.

4. Your mind stays sharp

In a 2011 study, it was observed that sleep apnoea could result in dementia and cognitive impairment. Using CPAP can delay the onset of both these conditions. In some patients, it was found that using CPAP can keep Alzheimer’s at bay.

5. Your libido will improve

Erectile dysfunction has closely been linked with sleep apnoea. Research-based evidence shows that using CPAP therapy for sleep apnoea may help men regain their normal libido levels.

6. Good for diabetics

CPAP therapy if done regularly can help diabetics as it decreases their insulin resistance. This can help stabilize their blood sugar levels.

7. Improves hearing

One of the problems of sleep apnea is a very high risk of hearing loss. In fact, a study found that if you have sleep apnoea then your risk of hearing loss is 90%.

However, if you use CPAP therapy on a regular basis then it will reduce snoring. Since snoring can cause hearing problems and noise trauma, your risk of hearing loss too is drastically reduced.

8. Better facial skin

If sleep apnoea is addressed then your facial skin will also improve. It has been found that regular practitioners of CPAP therapy say a reduction in redness and puffiness in their faces. This gave them a more sharp and youthful appearance.

9. Prevent accidents on the road

If you drive then CPAP is a lifesaver. We know that sleep apnoea can increase the chance of daytime sleep. Because sleep apnoea results in fatigue, there have been cases of people with sleep apnoea falling asleep at the driving seat.

With CPAP, you will not face these issues, as you will be more alert and refreshed.

10. Concentration levels may surge

Sleep apnoea can damage brain tissue if left untreated. This could cause concentration lapses and memory loss. With CPAP, both these issues can be taken care of. Your productivity at work may also see an improvement.

Consult with your doctor if you want to opt for CPAP therapy.
